PhysStream: Streaming Physics-Grounded Video Generation with Structured Scene Memory and Fine-Grained Motion Control

PhysStream enables mid-generation interactive control of physics-grounded video via structured scene memory and velocity-increment signals, reducing motion distribution distance 33%.

PhysStream is an autoregressive physics-grounded image-to-video model that maintains structured scene memory—positional maps and object tracking maps derived online from previously generated frames—and accepts fine-grained motion control via sparse velocity-increment signals encoding physical quantities. Training runs in two stages: a bidirectional model finetuned with motion-control conditioning, then a causal autoregressive model with structured scene memory. It supports interactive mid-generation control over multi-object tabletop rigid-body scenes, reducing motion distribution distance (FVMD) by 33% and trajectory error by 12% over the strongest baselines. Human evaluators preferred it in over 85% of in-the-wild comparisons.

Variational Continuation for Double Pendulum Periodic Orbits

Researchers introduce a Hessian-based, integrator-free method using automatic differentiation to continue periodic orbits in the double pendulum, uncovering previously unreported orbit families.

A new arXiv paper presents a variational, Hessian-based framework for numerically continuing periodic orbits in dynamical systems, parametrizing candidate loops as Fourier series and minimizing deviation from the governing differential equations. Automatic differentiation replaces hand-derived Jacobians, and flat directions of the loss landscape guide the continuation search. The method is demonstrated on the double pendulum, mapping bifurcations along orbit families, including periodic orbits where neither pendulum mass is ever simultaneously at rest.

Semigroup-JEPA: Latent Dynamics Consistency for Zero-Shot Physics Generalization

SG-JEPA world model conditions latent prediction on physical parameters, halving open-loop prediction error versus DINO-WM and boosting robotic control success.

SG-JEPA extends the LeWorldModel JEPA framework by supplying the governing physics parameter to the temporal model via action-conditioning and jointly training an encoder and predictor through autoregressive latent rollout. On out-of-distribution gravitational-field tasks it reduces open-loop prediction error by up to 2x versus DINO-WM on 2D datasets and increases 3D robotic control success rate up to 2.5x using independently trained diffusion policies. A linear feature analysis attributes most of the gain to the encoder learning features that the predictor can carry forward through rollout.

MIT creates method to force AI to comply with safety rules

MIT researchers published HardFlow, a method enforcing hard safety constraints on flow-matching generative models' final outputs without retraining.

MIT researchers led by Zeyang Li and Navid Azizan developed HardFlow, a trajectory-optimization method that enforces strict, non-negotiable constraints on flow-matching generative models by checking rule satisfaction only at the final generation step. Published in IEEE TPAMI, it outperformed six rival projection and guidance methods on four simulated benchmarks including D3IL robotic manipulation, Maze2D, physical process control, and image editing. All results are simulation-only, with no independent reproduction yet reported.

Bridging Control, Inference, Transport, and Thermodynamics: From Theory to Applications in Learning

Review connects control theory, optimal transport, probabilistic inference, thermodynamics, and machine learning via free-energy optimization under constraints.

The review unifies five fields: control theory, optimal transport, probabilistic inference, non-equilibrium thermodynamics, and machine learning. The common conceptual thread is optimization of free-energy-like functionals under dynamical or statistical constraints. Selected applications are presented in reinforcement learning, variational inference, and generative modeling. The tutorial-style text assumes no prior familiarity and begins from physics principles.

Learning-Guided Planning in Large Dynamic Action Spaces: Budgeted Tree Search for One-to-Many Mobile Charging

LP-BTS uses graph proposal policies, learned critics, and budgeted PUCT search to plan mobile charging across dynamic action spaces up to 2,813 stops.

LP-BTS is a learning-guided planning architecture for one-to-many mobile charging, where N=250 sensors induce roughly 1,125 initial candidate charging stops. A graph proposal policy concentrates candidate support, a learned value critic evaluates leaves, and edge-budgeted PUCT compares simulated futures, letting a single frozen checkpoint cover action universes from 736 to 2,813 stops. On a sealed 30-scenario confirmatory bank it attains the highest observed survival (0.4545) and alive-AUC (0.8031), though its +0.0066 survival edge over the strongest engineered comparator is statistically unresolved.

🔬“We have foundation models for language, not for physics” — Anima Anandkumar, Bren Professor of Computing

Caltech professor Anima Anandkumar discusses Neural Operators and FourCastNet for physics modeling, arguing inductive biases beat pure token scaling.

Anima Anandkumar, Bren Professor at Caltech and co-founder of Accelerated Understanding, describes Fourier Neural Operators that learn in frequency and spherical-harmonic domains to model weather, fusion, and fluid or heat flow. Her team built FourCastNet 3, a global weather model competitive with physics-based simulations that runs on consumer-grade GPUs. She also introduced TorchLean, a framework for writing PyTorch-style networks inside the Lean proof assistant for formal verification, and was appointed to the United Nations Scientific Advisory Board. She argues physical domains resist scaling due to tiny datasets and context lengths in the hundreds of billions, so progress comes from built-in structure and physical priors.

A*-Thought-V2: Efficient Latent Reasoning via Geometric Dynamics of LLM

A*-Thought-V2 compresses chain-of-thought into latent tokens using geometric hidden-state dynamics, cutting computation while improving accuracy on Qwen models.

A*-Thought-V2 models chain-of-thought as a hidden-state trajectory and interleaves explicit text with continuous latent tokens, compressing steps whose transitions deviate from the question-to-solution direction. Trained via stepwise embedding forcing and label forcing with soft multi-modal supervision, it was evaluated on Qwen3.5-9B and Qwen3.6-27B across six benchmarks. Reported results include up to 2.6% average accuracy gain, up to 50% shorter responses, 2.29x higher Accuracy per Computation Unit, 94.6% faster preprocessing, and up to 80.3% faster training.

The Evolution of the Agent Harness

Latent Space essay argues late-2025 agent gains came from models and harnesses maturing together, with harness logic absorbed into model weights.

The piece defines the agent harness as everything beyond model weights—tools, context, memory, guardrails—and charts its evolution from ReAct prompting (October 2022) through AutoGPT's premature autonomy, Cursor/Copilot's human-in-the-loop retreat, and Devin's roughly 15% success rate, to o1's capability overhang and Claude Code's February 2025 terminal agent with permission rules. It argues the Christmas 2025 jump cited by Transformer co-inventor Lukasz Kaiser reflected model and harness curves crossing, and that remaining harnesses will serve human attention rather than the model.

Design Docs Are All You Need: An AI-native Machine-Learning Performance Tool

Researchers present SMART, an ML performance-modeling library regenerated by AI coding agents from natural-language design docs instead of code.

The paper describes SMART, a symbolic performance-modeling library whose main branch contains almost no code: the repository is a DAG of self-contained design documents, and coding sub-agents regenerate implementations from only the docs on version updates. Reliability rests on a worked-example doc style used as in-context demonstrations and a minimal operator IR with SymPy cost expressions, offering both fast analytical roll-up and fine-grained modulo-scheduling modes. Regenerated implementations reproduce hand-audited reference models, including DeepSeek-V3 serving on a TPU pod slice, to round-off precision.

One Symptom, Three Levers: A Critical Review of On-Policy Self-Distillation

A review paper frames on-policy self-distillation collapse as governed by three levers: token weighting, privileged information, and guidance decay.

The paper critically reviews On-Policy Self-Distillation (OPSD), where a language model trains on its own generations scored token-by-token by a teacher conditioned on privileged information such as reference solutions or environment feedback. It identifies collapse, the progressive narrowing of producible reasoning paths, as the dominant failure mode and analyzes it through three levers: signal weighting, the nature of privileged information, and teacher dynamics. The review is restricted to mathematical reasoning, reports no new experiments, and offers a shared vocabulary separating settled findings from disputed ones.

Ambient @ EgoProactive 2026 : Proactive Egocentric Assistance with Visually Grounded Supervision

ECCV 2026 challenge winner reformulates egocentric intervention timing as single-token classification, boosting macro-F1 by 0.249 over free-form generation.

The paper describes the winning submission to the EgoProactive track of the ECCV 2026 Wearable AI Challenge, ranking first in the large-model division and second in the <=2B division. The method reformulates intervention timing as single-token yes/no classification, improving macro-F1 by 0.249 and G-mean by 0.30 over free-form generation. Supervision generated by a tool-calling video agent transferred better than a narration-only dataset that was four times larger and ten times cheaper, suggesting visual grounding matters more than annotation volume.

Enabling Creative Exploration for Vibe Design Agents

Separating design-direction exploration from code generation via structured specifications broadens UI alternatives without destabilizing output.

The paper proposes an inference architecture for vibe design agents that makes design direction an explicit intermediate decision: a Verbalized Sampling-inspired pre-pass proposes structured design specifications with typicality scores, an external selector samples one, and a downstream generator realizes it under fixed settings. Across 168 prompts with 1,255 paired comparisons per temperature, theme sampling broadens selection coverage and screenshot variation, with LLM-judge preferences varying across interventions and prompt complexity. An online experiment with over 300,000 tasks found the code-export increase statistically uncertain, though negative feedback events decreased alongside modest operational costs.

MOONWALK: Mediating Operations with Intent-Evidence-Action Alignment Across Junior-Supervisor Review Workflows in Animation/VFX Pre-Production

MOONWALK introduces an intent-evidence-action alignment workflow for animation/VFX reviews where AI handles administrative coordination while artists keep creative authority.

MOONWALK is a pre-production review system that articulates creative intent into a shared project record, anchors review judgments to grounded evidence, and converts authorized decisions into concrete revision tasks. AI components handle administrative coordination such as flagging missing context and organizing notes, not creative direction. An in-studio study against a chat-only AI interface showed stronger intent alignment, decision traceability, and checklist executability.

Kalman Delta Networks: Uncertainty-aware Associative Memory

Researchers propose Kalman Delta Networks, adding Kalman-filter uncertainty tracking to delta-rule linear attention, improving perplexity and accuracy at 750M and 1.3B parameters.

The paper introduces Kalman Delta Networks (KDNs), which reformulate recurrent associative memory in linear-attention models as a linear-Gaussian state-space model where the Kalman gain weights each write by accumulated evidence and observation reliability. Two scan-compatible approximations, Diagonal KDN via online mean-field variational inference and Isotropic KDN with a single uncertainty scalar per head, enable associative scans with logarithmic parallel depth. Delta-rule updates are shown to be a special case of this formulation. KDN variants consistently improve perplexity and mean downstream accuracy over state-of-the-art linear-attention baselines in controlled pretraining at 750M and 1.3B parameters.

ReactHuman: A Physics-Grounded Benchmark for Human-Like Reactive Decision-Making in Embodied Multimodal LLMs

ReactHuman benchmark tests whether multimodal LLMs react safely to sudden household hazards; seven evaluated models mishandle roughly one hazard in three.

ReactHuman is the first physics-grounded benchmark for human-like reactive decision-making, placing a multimodal LLM as the brain of a simulated humanoid facing 17 event families of sudden household hazards across over 1,000 bit-for-bit reproducible scenes with annotation-free ground truth from 240 Hz rigid-body simulation, including adversarial objects whose appearance contradicts their physics. A five-metric suite scores each reaction along reasonable, safe, and physically grounded axes, and every committed plan is physically executed. Seven representative MLLMs mishandle roughly one hazard in three, act from fixed dispositions rather than the observed scene, trust appearance over motion, and miss interception points at meter scale; none of these failures shrink with model scale.

AI for Games in the Foundation Model Era

Survey organizes foundation-model AI for games into six roles and analyzes which capabilities transfer across playing, design, building, runtime adaptation, and testing.

A survey maps foundation-model and learned world-model research across the game lifecycle into six roles: playing/acting, modeling players and games, designing games, building/maintaining games, runtime generation/adaptation, and testing/evaluation. The authors identify cross-role connections such as trajectories training world models and design specifications driving executable implementations. Control schemes, rules, engine interfaces, state representations, and player contexts often remain setting-specific, so downstream claims require validation in the target setting. Evaluation is most standardized for bounded game playing, while persistent state, repeated revision, validated player modeling, and automated testing remain less established.

Kalman Delta Networks: Uncertainty-aware Associative Memory

Kalman Delta Networks add uncertainty tracking to linear-attention associative memory, improving perplexity and downstream accuracy at 750M and 1.3B scales.

Kalman Delta Networks reformulate recurrent associative memory in linear-attention models as a linear-Gaussian state-space model, allowing the Kalman gain to weight each residual write by accumulated evidence and observation reliability; Delta-rule updates emerge as a special case lacking covariance tracking. Generative Marketing Mix Modeling: A Causal Inference Framework Linking GEO and GEM to Business Impact

Paper proposes Generative Marketing Mix Modeling to causally estimate Generative Engine Optimization and Marketing effects on business outcomes.

The authors develop GMMM, a causal inference framework for measuring how often users see and notice a firm's name in generated answers, which standard marketing data ignore. For GEO it combines repeated generated answers with question counts, shares of generative-system usage and notice probabilities; for GEM it uses sponsored placement records with notice probabilities. The framework compares expected business responses under alternative treatment sequences, establishes identification conditions, and is evaluated on simulated product-recommendation answers in English and Japanese.
