Metabase Zero-Day Exploited in Wild Allows Admin Access Without Authentication

Metabase warns an actively exploited zero-day (CVE-2026-72898, CVSS 10.0) grants unauthenticated admin access; Framework, n8n, and Kilo Code disclosed data exposure.

Metabase disclosed a maximum-severity SQL injection affecting versions x.58 through x.63 that lets unauthenticated attackers inject SQL via the /api/session/reset_password endpoint and gain administrator access to Metabase instances. Metabase Cloud was attacked, patches were released, and CISA added CVE-2026-72898 to the KEV catalog with a federal remediation deadline of August 14, 2026. Downstream victims include Framework (customer names, IPs, addresses, phone numbers, and emails accessed), n8n (136 customer records, five with bcrypt-hashed passwords), and Kilo Code (Slack access tokens). Wiz estimates roughly 13% of cloud environments run self-hosted Metabase, with about 2,500 instances internet-accessible.

U.S. CISA adds Metabase, Windows, and Cisco Secure Firewall flaws to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog.

CISA adds three actively exploited flaws—Cisco ASA/FTD DoS, Windows Winsock SYSTEM-level UAF, and Metabase SQL injection—to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog.

CISA added CVE-2026-20349 (CVSS 8.6, heap inspection flaw crashing Cisco ASA/FTD via crafted HTTP requests to the Remote Access SSL VPN service), CVE-2026-68820 (CVSS 7.0, use-after-free in the Windows afd.sys Winsock driver allowing SYSTEM-privilege code execution, actively exploited per Microsoft) and CVE-2026-72898 (CVSS 10.0, unauthenticated SQL injection in Metabase) to the KEV catalog. Metabase disclosed its cloud service was attacked with the 0-day, giving the intruder a path to administrator rights and stored credentials for connected databases; cloud instances were patched while self-hosted deployments need urgent updates. Under BOD 22-01, federal civilian agencies must patch by August 14, 2026, except CVE-2026-68820, due August 25.

Trezor customers hit with phishing calls and letters after shipping-partner breach

A breach at shipping partner ShipMonk exposed data for about 67,000 additional US Trezor customers, who now face phishing calls and QR scam letters.

SatoshiLabs, maker of Trezor hardware wallets, confirmed the August 2026 ShipMonk breach exposed names, emails, phone numbers, and shipping addresses for roughly 67,000 US customers who ordered between November 2019 and August 2021, on top of 3,889 customers affected initially. ShipMonk attributed the intrusion to attackers exploiting an SQLi zero-day in Metabase's Cloud SaaS platform and retained data past the 90-day deletion requirement. Trezor's own systems were not compromised; customers are reporting phishing calls and QR-code phishing delivered via physical letters.
