Microsoft Patch Tuesday for September 2026 — Snort rules and prominent vulnerabilities

Microsoft's September 2026 Patch Tuesday fixes 973 vulnerabilities, including 113 critical, with two Windows privilege-escalation bugs (CVE-2026-81963, CVE-2026-85880) exploited in the wild.

Microsoft's September 2026 security update addresses 973 vulnerabilities across its product lineup, 113 rated critical, of which 82 are remote code execution flaws. Two vulnerabilities are confirmed exploited in the wild: CVE-2026-81963, an elevation-of-privilege flaw in the Windows Update Stack (CVSS 7.8), and CVE-2026-85880, a heap-based buffer overflow in Windows Advanced Local Procedure Call (CVSS 7.8). Microsoft flags several bugs as more likely to be exploited, including a 9.8 RCE in Windows DNS Server (CVE-2026-69730), an 8.8 RCE in Windows Kerberos (CVE-2026-69676), and a 9.0 EoP in Spring Cloud Azure (CVE-2026-69854). Cisco Talos published accompanying Snort rules to detect exploitation attempts against the prominent flaws.

Siemens has released V2.70 and recommends updating to the latest version.

CareCam CM2507

CISA advisory: seven flaws in CareCam CM2507 IP cameras enable unauthenticated live video access, privileged ONVIF control, credential recovery, and code execution.

CISA advisory ICSA-26-258-08 discloses seven vulnerabilities in CareCam HMT.CM2507 IP cameras running firmware v251211.1507. Issues include missing authentication for network video streaming (CVE-2026-88259, CVSS 3.1 7.5), an empty password on a privileged ONVIF account (CVE-2026-84398), weak legacy hashing of the root password (CVE-2026-85497, CVSS 4.0 9.3 critical), and cleartext storage of Wi-Fi credentials (CVE-2026-81321). Physical-access flaws allow arbitrary code execution from scripts on removable media (CVE-2026-81305) and unauthenticated bootloader access (CVE-2026-85478). The cameras are deployed worldwide in commercial facilities.

Digital Watchdog VMAX DVR and NVR Product Lineups

CISA advisory details six flaws, aggregate CVSS 9.6, giving attackers full control of Digital Watchdog VMAX DVR/NVR surveillance devices.

CISA advisory ICSA-26-258-01 discloses six vulnerabilities affecting all versions of Digital Watchdog VMAX A1 G4 DVRs, VMAX IP G4 NVRs, VMAX A1 PLUS, VA1G4, and VG4 recorders, with aggregate CVSS v3 of 9.6. Flaws include an authentication bypass leaking plaintext admin credentials (CVE-2026-68953), hard-coded credentials enabling root FTP access (CVE-2026-66890, CVE-2026-68950), root command execution (CVE-2026-68070), missing authorization on state-changing CGIs (CVE-2026-66887), and predictable session tokens (CVE-2026-66372). Successful exploitation grants full administrative control, live and recorded surveillance access, and a network pivot point. Products are deployed worldwide across commercial facilities, government, healthcare, and transportation sectors.

AI Tool Identifies BOLA Vulnerabilities in Easy!Appointments

Unit 42's AI-powered tool found 15 BOLA vulnerabilities in Easy!Appointments, rated up to CVSS 9.9, letting low-privileged users escalate privileges; fixed in 1.5.0.

Unit 42's automated BOLA detection tool, built on generative AI, uncovered 15 broken object-level authorization flaws in the open-source scheduling application Easy!Appointments, tracked as CVE-2023-3285 through CVE-2023-3290 and CVE-2023-38047 through CVE-2023-38055. Nine flaws scored CVSS 9.9, letting logged-in customers view or manipulate appointments and accounts of providers and admins, including creating admin users for privilege escalation. The maintainers patched all issues in version 1.5.0. The same tool previously found a BOLA in Grafana (CVE-2024-1313).

Cisco Patches Nine Crosswork and Secure Workload Flaws, Five Scoring CVSS 10.0

Cisco patches nine Crosswork and Secure Workload flaws, five rated CVSS 10.0, found internally with no exploitation observed.

Cisco released fixes for four Crosswork platform vulnerabilities including CVE-2026-20030 SQL injection and CVE-2026-20357 missing authentication, both scoring CVSS 10.0, affecting Crosswork Release 7.2.1 and earlier. Five additional flaws in Secure Workload, including CVE-2026-20315 and CVE-2026-20317 at CVSS 10.0, affect SaaS and on-premises deployments up to releases 3.10 and 4.0. All issues were found through internal testing and are not known to be actively exploited. The patches follow a broader internal security review that recently addressed 12 Catalyst SD-WAN and IOS XE bugs.

ST Engineering iDirect iQ-Series Terminals (Update A)

CISA advisory details four flaws in ST Engineering iDirect iQ-Series VSAT terminals <=4.5.2.1, enabling device data theft, CSRF-driven reboots, and local privilege escalation.

CISA's Update A to ICSA-26-183-01 covers ST Engineering iDirect iQ-Series, 3315-Series and 9-Series terminals at firmware <=4.5.2.1, deployed across communications, defense, energy and transportation. CVE-2026-38059 exposes unauthenticated /api/identity and /api/ endpoints leaking serial number, DID, TPK, MAC address and firmware version, potentially enabling terminal impersonation; CVE-2026-38057 is a CSRF flaw letting an attacker force terminal reboots and satellite link loss via /api/reboot. CVE-2026-38056 enables local privilege escalation using the factory-configured technician account (CVSS 3.1 8.8, CVSS 4.0 9.4), and CVE-2026-38058 exposes crackable MD5-crypt root password hashes. All four flaws were reported to CISA by Ahmed Alqahtani of Aramco.

Three CVSS 10.0 ServiceNow Flaws Could Let Unauthenticated Attackers Execute Code and SQL

ServiceNow patched four AI Platform flaws, including three pre-authentication CVSS 10.0 issues enabling unauthenticated code execution, SQL injection, and privilege escalation.

ServiceNow released patches on August 27, 2026 for four AI Platform flaws: CVE-2026-18885 (code injection in the GraphQL Composite Data API), CVE-2026-18886 (improper access control enabling privilege escalation), and CVE-2026-74820 (SQL injection), all self-rated CVSS 10.0 and exploitable without authentication, plus CVE-2026-6876, an 8.7 sandbox escape. Updates were deployed to hosted instances, but self-hosted customers must patch affected Xanadu, Yokohama, Zurich, and Australia release lines themselves. ServiceNow says it is not aware of exploitation of the new flaws, and no public exploit code existed as of August 28, 2026; separately, Defused reported in-the-wild exploitation of the earlier CVE-2026-6875 (CVSS 9.5), later noting the captured payload matched Searchlight Cyber's PoC.
