I spent $4,000 on a robot dog from China

Hands-on review finds the $4,017 Unitree Go2 Pro robot dog affordable but impractical, as Unitree reaches a $34 billion valuation after its IPO.

Ars Technica reviewed the Unitree Go2 Pro quadruped, purchased for $4,017, finding it astonishingly cheap but of limited practical use; it collapsed from battery drain and heat (84°C internal temperature) on an uphill walk at 87°F. Unitree democratized quadruped research, sells humanoid robots from $13,500, and debuted on the Shanghai stock exchange on August 19 with shares rising over fivefold on day one, valuing the company at $34 billion. Its robots now face legal restrictions in the United States, and it competes with Boston Dynamics, whose Spot starts around $75,000.

RobResilience: Implementing and Evaluating a Resilience Framework for Cyber-Physical Embodied Systems

RobResilience implements a runtime resilience framework for robots in Webots/ROS2, evaluating tolerable disruption, degradation, and mitigation feasibility across eight attack scenarios.

The paper implements a formal resilience framework for embodied cyber-physical systems using a PR2 robot and ROS2 in a Webots simulation. At runtime it evaluates three predicates — tolerable disruption (δ), tolerable degradation (γ), and mitigation feasibility (μ) — over a compromised device set derived from IDS confidence scores, triggering mitigation strategies when resilience is lost. Eight attack scenarios systematically covering the full predicate state space confirm runtime behavior matches theoretical definitions. The work addresses 'graceful failure paralysis,' where autonomous systems cannot distinguish safe degraded states from catastrophic hazards during attacks.

ENISA: Frontier AI Is Changing the Speed of Cyberattacks. Europe Needs to Catch Up

ENISA warns frontier AI compresses attack lifecycles to minutes, with exploits possible within 15 minutes of disclosure and median 72-minute breach-to-exfiltration times.

ENISA's July 2026 paper 'ENISA's view on Cybersecurity in the Frontier AI Era' argues AI-assisted attackers may weaponize vulnerabilities within 15 minutes of disclosure and achieve initial-access-to-data-exfiltration in a median 72 minutes, creating a 'negative time-to-exploit' problem. The report cites one organisation whose CVE volume rose from roughly 80 in Q1 2025 to almost 500 in Q1 2026, then about 500 reports per day when frontier-AI tools were used. ENISA recommends machine-speed defence under 'Cybersecurity as Code', EPSS and VEX-based prioritisation, AI-assisted incident response with human oversight, and an assume-breached architecture.

Jensen Huang explains why Nvidia will grow an astounding 70% next year

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang reiterated at a Goldman Sachs conference that revenue could grow 70% year-over-year next year, reaching roughly $680 billion.

Speaking at the Goldman Sachs Communicopia + Technology conference, Huang reaffirmed guidance of about 70% revenue growth next year, implying roughly $680 billion after an expected ~$400 billion this fiscal year. He cited the Grace-Blackwell system (36 Grace CPUs with 72 Blackwell GPUs) experiencing 27% month-over-month order growth and claimed $100 billion in revenue-generating contracts at companies Nvidia invests in. Huang argued Nvidia underpins models from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google and tracks global data center capacity, while dismissing concerns about circular deals and competition from hyperscalers, Cerebras, and Etched.

Powering AI is an architecture problem

Sponsored analysis argues AI data centers need medium-voltage, inline power architecture after Virginia grid faults knocked over 3GW of load offline.

A sponsored MIT Technology Review piece recounts a July 22, 2026 transmission fault in Ashburn, Virginia that shed more than 3 GW of data center load, and a 2024 incident where one failed surge arrester dropped about 60 facilities and 1,500 MW. It argues legacy UPS-based power stacks fail at AI scale because campuses can swing 70% of load in milliseconds and trip offline during grid disturbances. The proposed fix moves protection to medium voltage (13.8 kV and above) in inline enclosures near substations, improving density, permitting timelines, and backup power economics. A full-scale system tested at the DOE National Laboratory of the Rockies cleared ERCOT large-load ride-through requirements.

10 most critical LLM vulnerabilities

OWASP updated its Top 10 LLM application vulnerabilities, ranking prompt injection first and elevating excessive agency to third amid agentic adoption.

OWASP refreshed its Top 10 list of critical vulnerabilities in LLM applications, for the first time incorporating real-world incident data alongside expert voting. Prompt injection and sensitive information disclosure remain first and second, while excessive agency jumped from sixth to third as agentic systems that call APIs and execute code proliferate. Unbounded consumption of AI resources rose in prominence, while improper output handling dropped to the bottom as output sanitization becomes widespread. The list includes remediation guidance such as strict output schemas, human-in-the-loop approvals, and least-privilege credentials held in application code.

GPT-6 Astra, Looped Transformers, and Hidden Reasoning

OpenAI released GPT-6 Astra, its strongest model to date, with standout 3D rendering and computer-use performance and 99.9% on ARC-AGI-3.

Sebastian Raschka reviews OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra, calling it the best model he has used, with disproportionate gains in 3D rendering, animation, and computer use through the Codex/ChatGPT harness. The model scores 99.9% on ARC-AGI-3 versus 7.8% for GPT-5.6 Sol and leads the Artificial Analysis Coding Agent Index, though gains on independent aggregate indices are more incremental. The article also explains looped transformer/recurrent depth architecture rumors, speculation that Astra hides its chain-of-thought reasoning, and recent research insights on the topic.

Threat Actors Don’t Want Better Attacks. They Want Repeatable Ones

Opinion piece argues attackers prioritize repeatable playbooks like ClickFix (47% of Microsoft-notified attacks) and living-off-the-land over novel techniques.

The column analyzes why commodity techniques scale: Microsoft observed ClickFix as the top initial access method at 47% of its notifications last year, while Bitdefender found 84% of 700,000 analyzed high-severity incidents involved binaries already present on machines. Verizon's DBIR shows vulnerability exploitation rising to 31% of initial access vectors, up from 20%, and ransomware leak-site rankings show Qilin (roughly 1,600 claimed victims) and The Gentlemen (121 claimed victims in June) competing on throughput. The author argues attackers behave like a generics business, standardizing repeatable procedures rather than investing in novel tradecraft.
