Trump, Six AI Giants Sign 'Super Intelligence' Safety Accord
Trump and six AI companies signed a voluntary White House accord on frontier-model safety controls.
On September 29, President Trump and executives from Google, Anthropic, Meta, OpenAI, xAI, and NVIDIA signed the White House Accord on Super Intelligence. Companies training frontier models agreed to four layers of controls: internal monitoring of capabilities and alignment, an internal assurance team, an independent external auditor, and board-level oversight, including cyber, bio, and chemical risks. The same day, an executive order directed federal agencies to use “super intelligence” instead of “artificial intelligence.” The accord creates no new legal requirements; Trump called it morally binding and said firms should police themselves.
- Signatories are Google, Anthropic, Meta, OpenAI, xAI, and NVIDIA.
- Controls cover capability monitoring, internal checks, external audit, and board oversight.
- Named risks include cybersecurity, biosecurity, and chemical threats.
- The accord is voluntary and creates no new regulations.
- An executive order replaces “artificial intelligence” with “super intelligence” in federal use.
