PHP shipped emergency fixes for two CVSS 9.2 RCE flaws (PHP2Shell); exploitation attempts are reported but no confirmed compromises.

On October 21, 2026, PHP released fixes for CVE-2026-109618 (out-of-memory corruption) and CVE-2026-109619 (stale global state), both rated 9.2, allowing unauthenticated remote code execution on installations serving web requests, including PHP-FPM, mod_php, php-cgi, FrankenPHP and LiteSpeed. Patched releases are 8.5.12, 8.4.27, 8.3.36 and 8.2.35; PHP 8.1 and older get only emergency source backports for 7.4, 8.0 and 8.1. Cloudflare and several security firms report exploitation attempts, including abuse of the session upload-progress path, but WatchTowr says it has not seen successful compromise. A leak broke the embargo a day early, and some European government sites, the Port of Rotterdam and Nintendo took services offline as a precaution. Researchers including Wiz, OpenAI and Calif reported the bugs in August after AI-assisted analysis.
