Discord will let search engines index public server messages
October 28: BleepingComputer puts the count at about 63,000, says admins must go private before November 16 to avoid a page, and says users cannot retract messages already made public.
Discord will publish eligible Discoverable Server messages for search indexing from November 16, with individual messages in mid-December.
Discord will publish selected messages from Discoverable Servers so Google and other search engines can index them, calling it planned publishing rather than a breach. Eligible public communities need at least 1,000 members, eight weeks of age, and activity and safety compliance; private servers, direct and group messages, and role-restricted channels are excluded. Cyber Security News says more than 63,000 servers qualify; BleepingComputer says approximately 63,000. Default server web pages and AI channel summaries begin November 16, 2026, individual messages follow in mid-December, and older histories stay unpublished. Sharing is on by default except in the EU/EEA, UK, Canada, Brazil, Australia, and South Korea, and teen accounts cannot enable it.
- Usernames and avatars are hidden; messages initially appear as text.
- Sharing is off by default in the EU/EEA, UK, Canada, Brazil, Australia, and South Korea.
- Messages sent while sharing was on can remain public unless deleted.
- Deleting a Discord message removes the page, but search caches can linger.
- Admins can exclude channels or leave Discovery under Web Presence settings.
- Going private before November 16 avoids creation of a server web page.
