Trezor: 347,000 users targeted in phishing attacks after Brevo breach

Trezor reported phishing after the Brevo breach targeted 347,000 newsletter subscribers, with 2,500 users clicking before the domain was taken down.

Threat actors who breached Trezor's third-party email provider Brevo on September 9, 2026 sent fake 'critical security alert' emails from [email protected] to 347,000 opted-in newsletter subscribers, claiming an STM32 microcontroller vulnerability exposed wallet seeds. The emails linked to a malicious app that asked users to enter their wallet backup; 2,500 users clicked before Trezor disabled the phishing domain within 20 minutes. Trezor also disclosed that a prior breach via logistics provider ShipMonk, exploited through a critical Metabase SQL injection zero-day, affected 81,000 customers and drew extortion emails from the ShinyHunters gang.

Gigabud Creates Android Work Profiles to Hide From Banking App Malware Checks

Group-IB reports the Gigabud Android banking trojan uses a cloned work profile to hide from banking app malware checks, with infections confirmed in Indonesia.

Group-IB says Gigabud installs a helper app called Vwork, derived from the open-source Shelter tool, which creates an Android work profile and drops a tampered banking app inside it, hiding the trojan from banking apps' malware scans. Gigabud, active since 2022 and linked by Group-IB to the GoldFactory group, abuses Accessibility access and overlay screens to steal credentials and run fraudulent payments while a black screen conceals the operator's actions. Group-IB confirmed the full attack chain on infected devices in Indonesia, counting about 1,469 compromised devices and estimated losses of roughly $960,000 between February and July 2026. Vwork-compatible Gigabud samples have been found targeting 11 countries including Brazil, Mexico, Indonesia, Thailand, and Türkiye, though only the Indonesian chain is confirmed.

Hackers Use Claude and GPT-Powered Tools to Help Breach Government and Financial Networks

Unit 42 links two Latin America campaigns where operators used Claude and GPT-4.1 during intrusions against government and financial targets.

Palo Alto Networks Unit 42 identified two activity clusters, CL-CRI-1131 and CL-CRI-1163, tied by shared SOCKS5 relay infrastructure and use of large language models during operations. The Mexican cluster targeted a transportation organization, federal ministries and water utilities in Mexico and Ecuador, while the Brazilian cluster used resume-themed phishing, custom remote-access Trojans and SockTz SOCKS5 tunneling against financial organizations. An exposed self-hosted NextChat interface on attacker infrastructure led researchers to assess operators used Claude and GPT-4.1 to generate workaround scripts and troubleshoot execution failures. Unit 42 noted AI reduced time needed to troubleshoot intrusions after initial access, rather than replacing the attacker.

MikroTik patches flaws currently being exploited to take over routers

MikroTik patches six RouterOS flaws, including the actively exploited MikroTrick SSH chain (CVE-2026-67276, CVE-2026-86060) enabling unauthenticated full router takeover.

MikroTik released patches in RouterOS 7.25 beta 3, 7.24.2, 7.23.4, and 6.49.21 for six vulnerabilities found by CERT Polska, affecting the SSH server/client, bandwidth-test service, X.509 handling, and WebFig. CVE-2026-67276, an RSA public-key validation flaw in the SSH server, lets an attacker who knows a username and key modulus authenticate as that user; CVE-2026-86060 then escalates privileges to root via special-character username handling. CERT Polska confirmed attackers are exploiting the chain to take full control of RouterOS devices with SSH exposed to the internet. Shadowserver Foundation scans show over 122,500 devices with internet-reachable SSH, concentrated in Brazil, the US, and Indonesia.

Gigabud Uses Android App Cloning to Evade Fraud Detection

Group-IB reports the Gigabud Android banking trojan clones bank apps into isolated work profiles via the Vwork tool to evade fraud detection, with roughly $960,000 in losses in Indonesia.

Group-IB found Gigabud now ships dedicated code to work with Vwork, a weaponized fork of the open-source Android cloning app Shelter it attributes to GoldFactory, exposing cloning functions so any installed app can call them. After installing via phishing sites and messengers posing as airline, tax and government apps, operators request accessibility and overlay permissions, then clone the victim's banking app into a new work profile where it is invisible to signature-based detection in the personal profile. Fake login screens and overlays capture credentials while cloned-app transactions appear to banks as coming from an unrecognized, malware-free device. Between February and July 2026 in Indonesia, Group-IB observed about 1,469 compromised devices, 1,281 potentially compromised logins and estimated losses of roughly $960,939, with Vwork-enabled samples targeting 11 countries including Brazil, Mexico, Egypt and Thailand.

  • Use-After-Free Local Privilege Escalation in Microsoft Windows WinSock AFD Driver
CVE-2026-68820 is a use-after-free (CWE-416) in the Windows Ancillary Function Driver for WinSock (afd.sys), the kernel component that handles Winsock socket operations. A local, authenticated attacker can trigger the memory corruption through crafted socket activity, and the high attack-complexity score (AV:L/AC:H/PR:L) indicates exploitation requires a specific, likely race-sensitive sequence of operations. Successful exploitation elevates privileges to SYSTEM, giving the attacker full control of the host, and public reporting describes deployment of a backdoor after privilege escalation. Virtually every Windows 10, Windows 11, and Windows Server (2012-2022) installation ships this driver, so the affected population is essentially the entire supported Windows installed base. The flaw is being exploited in the wild: CISA added it to the KEV on 2026-08-11, Microsoft fixed it in the August 2026 Patch Tuesday release, and reporting ties active exploitation to North Korea's Lazarus group, who paired the zero-day with fake job-offer lures.

  • Improper Authentication in JFrog Artifactory Allows Unauthenticated Admin Access
JFrog Artifactory contains an improper authentication flaw (CWE-287) that, under the product's default configuration, can let an unauthenticated attacker with network access obtain administrative privileges. The weakness is reachable over the network with no privileges or user interaction required, which is why it carries a critical 9.8 CVSS 3.1 score; an attacker who succeeds effectively gains full administrator control of the artifact repository, and public reporting describes attackers using the flaw to mint admin tokens days after disclosure. Any organization running JFrog Artifactory is in scope — CISA's entry lists the product without version detail, so deployments should verify their versions against JFrog's advisory (AV26-867, Update 1) — with internet-exposed instances at greatest risk. Exploitation is confirmed in the wild: CISA added the CVE to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog on 2026-09-02, a public proof-of-concept is available, and news headlines report active exploitation alongside related Artifactory flaws CVE-2026-42016 and CVE-2026-42018.

  • Unauthenticated .NET Deserialization RCE in Progress Telerik UI for ASP.NET AJAX
CVE-2019-18935 is a .NET deserialization flaw (CWE-502) in the RadAsyncUpload function of Progress Telerik UI for ASP.NET AJAX through version 2019.3.1023. It is triggered when an attacker who knows the Telerik upload encryption keys — most commonly because the earlier flaws CVE-2017-11317 or CVE-2017-11357 exposed them, though keys can be obtained by other means — sends crafted serialized data to RadAsyncUpload, allowing remote code execution without authentication. Successful exploitation gives an attacker arbitrary code execution on the hosting IIS/ASP.NET web server, reflected in the critical 9.8 CVSS score. Any web application built with Telerik UI for ASP.NET AJAX at or below 2019.3.1023 is affected, unless 2019.3.1023 has the non-default hardening setting enabled (as of 2020.1.114 a default setting prevents the exploit). Exploitation is rampant in the wild: the flaw was added to CISA KEV on 2021-11-03 with known ransomware use, carries a 99.7% EPSS probability of exploitation, has multiple public exploits (Bishop Fox, RAU_crypto, noperator), and has been used by multiple threat groups — including ransomware and government-linked actors — to breach organizations including a U.S. federal agency.

  • Unauthenticated RCE in Langflow /api/v1/validate/code
Langflow, an open-source visual framework for building LLM and agentic AI applications, contains a missing authentication flaw (CWE-306) in its /api/v1/validate/code endpoint. A remote attacker with network reachability to the endpoint can send crafted HTTP requests without any credentials, causing arbitrary code execution on the server. Successful exploitation yields code execution under the application's privileges, enabling data theft, backdoor installation, and, per CISA, ransomware deployment. Any running Langflow instance is affected; the tool is typically self-hosted by development teams building AI workflows, so real-world exposure depends on whether each instance is reachable from untrusted networks. Exploitation is confirmed in the wild: the flaw was added to CISA's KEV catalog on 2025-05-05 with known ransomware use, EPSS assigns a 100% probability of exploitation within 30 days (100th percentile), and a public PoC is available.

  • Argument-Injection Flaw in MikroTik RouterOS SSH Login Enables Privilege Escalation
CVE-2026-86060 is an argument-injection flaw (CWE-88) in MikroTik RouterOS's SSH login path: when a login supplies a username beginning with a prohibited character, the RouterOS login helper mishandles the argument, allowing the trusted RouterOS policy mask to be changed and privileges to be escalated. An unauthenticated attacker only needs the ability to reach the router's SSH service, since exploitation happens during the SSH login process itself. By altering the policy mask the attacker gains elevated rights on the device, and news reports indicate attackers have used this technique — including logins with usernames such as '-2' — as part of chains that take over routers without needing a password. Any RouterOS deployment running versions before the fixes (6.49.21 Long-term, 7.23.4 Long-term, 7.24.2 Stable) with SSH enabled or reachable is affected, with internet-exposed SSH at highest risk. Multiple outlets report the RouterOS flaws are being actively exploited in the wild, although no public proof-of-concept is known and the flaw is not yet in CISA KEV.

  • Windows SmartScreen Bypass (CVE-2023-36025) Exploited via Crafted Shortcut Files
CVE-2023-36025 is a security feature bypass in Windows SmartScreen in which a specially crafted file — exploited in the wild using Internet Shortcut (.url) files — evades the Mark-of-the-Web warning SmartScreen normally displays for content downloaded from the internet. The flaw is network-reachable and requires no authentication, but user interaction is required: it triggers when a user clicks the crafted file delivered via phishing email, chat, or a web download. By bypassing the SmartScreen prompt, the attacker removes a key user-facing defense that would otherwise flag or warn about the file, which facilitated delivery of malware in the observed DarkGate and Mispadu campaigns. Any unpatched Windows 10 (1507, 1607, 1809, 21H2, 22H2), Windows 11 (21H2, 22H2, 23H2), or Windows Server 2008/2012/2016/2019 system is affected, which at the time of disclosure effectively meant the entire supported Windows installed base. It is confirmed exploited in the wild: CISA added it to the KEV catalog on 2023-11-14, EPSS scores 30-day exploitation probability at 88.1% (100th percentile), though no public PoC is known.

  • Out-of-Bounds Write in Linux Kernel watch_queue Enables Local Privilege Escalation
CVE-2022-0995 is an out-of-bounds (OOB) memory write in the Linux kernel's watch_queue event notification subsystem (CWE-787) that can overwrite parts of kernel state. A local user can trigger it through the watch_queue interface, for example by supplying a crafted event filter definition, causing the kernel to write beyond allocated memory when event notifications are processed. Successful exploitation may allow the local user to gain privileged (kernel/root) access or crash the system, yielding high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability (CVSS 3.1: 7.8, local attack vector). Affected systems include mainstream Linux kernels (Fedora is explicitly listed) and NetApp HCI appliance firmware products that ship the affected kernel. The flaw is confirmed exploited in the wild: CISA added it to the Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog on 2026-08-26, two public proof-of-concepts are available, and EPSS puts 30-day exploitation probability at 9.5% (95th percentile), though ransomware use is unconfirmed.
