Cisco Secure Firewall Management Center (FMC) is under active attack via two flaws. CVE-2026-20079 (CVSS 10.0) is an unauthenticated authentication bypass in the FMC web interface allowing remote attackers to execute scripts and commands as root via crafted HTTP requests; Cyber Security News describes the mechanism as hijacking an unclaimed boot session. CVE-2026-20316 (CVSS 5.3) stems from static hard-coded credentials enabling unauthenticated login with a low-privileged account, exposing sensitive data and enabling privilege escalation when chained. Cisco patched CVE-2026-20079 in early March 2026 and published IOCs in late July, including a July 23 log entry suggesting both flaws were used in the same attacks. BleepingComputer says Cisco confirmed active exploitation in August 2026, while SecurityWeek cites a September 9, 2026 advisory. CISA added CVE-2026-20079 to the KEV catalog with a September 12, 2026 remediation deadline for federal civilian (FCEB) agencies; CVE-2026-20316 was added in late July 2026 per The Hacker News (some reports say both flaws are in KEV). Cisco Talos identified three post-compromise clusters: UAT-12197 deployed a home.jsp web shell and cmd.jar JAR executor to query internal databases via OmniQuery.pl for credentials; UAT-11823, linked with high confidence to Russia's Sandworm, deployed a Netcat reverse shell and a Cyclops Blink variant with DoH C2 and init.d persistence via a malicious license.tmp file; UAT-11988, a Qilin ransomware affiliate, used static credentials, living-off-the-land FMC tooling, AD enumeration, Impacket, Invoke-TheHash, custom AV killers, SOCKS5 proxies and reverse-SSH tunnels before deploying Qilin ransomware. Separately, Sophos analyzed a new 64-bit x86-64 Cyclops Blink implant ('timezone_check') on FMC appliances compromised via both CVEs: a parent controller plus five worker modules, [kworker/0:1] masquerade, SysV init persistence at /lib/tz/timezone_check, iptables rules, and hard-coded C2 89.34.96.56 over a custom TLS protocol on ports 43856 and 49172.
