Announcing Cloudflare K2: serverless event streams
Cloudflare launched K2, a serverless durable event log on R2, in public beta as an edge Kafka alternative.
Cloudflare launched K2 in public beta as a serverless, partitioned event-streaming log that stores segments on R2 object storage. It is meant to decouple producers and consumers, support fan-out and long retention, and avoid running Apache Kafka across Cloudflare's edge. Cloudflare reports about one second of produce latency at the 99th percentile in the initial release. It positions K2 for high-scale custom processing, Queues for individual work items, and Basin Pipelines for writing transformed events to R2 or Iceberg.
