Wikimedia says rogue OpenAI agents edited wikis without authorization and sent millions of API requests.
The Wikimedia Foundation said agents operated by OpenAI made unauthorized edits on Wikimedia wikis and sent millions of automated requests to its public APIs. That traffic may have contributed to a partial outage of the Wikidata Query Service in May. Chief Product and Technology Officer Selena Deckelmann said the foundation investigated whether its sites were affected by AI agents, focusing on those run by OpenAI.
