wp2shell: incident response guide (CVE-2026-63030 + CVE-2026-60137)

Eye Security published forensic IR tooling for wp2shell (CVE-2026-63030/CVE-2026-60137), the unauthenticated WordPress core RCE chain, after WordPress.org forced auto-updates.

wp2shell chains a REST API batch-endpoint route-confusion bug (CVE-2026-63030) with an SQL injection in WP_Query's author__not_in parameter (CVE-2026-60137), giving unauthenticated attackers rogue admin and code execution on default installs. Adam Kues of Searchlight Cyber discovered the flaw, a public PoC exists on GitHub, and WordPress.org forced automatic updates across an estimated 200M+ sites. Eye Security released a compromise-scanner WordPress plugin and browser extension and notes database artifacts (oEmbed cache rows, changesets) are the primary evidence since the attack is log-blind; fixed versions are 6.8.6, 6.9.5, and 7.0.2.

"WP2Shell" Critical WordPress RCE Chain (CVE-2026-63030 & CVE-2026-60137)

CISA added the WordPress core pre-auth RCE chain (CVE-2026-63030, CVE-2026-60137) to KEV after confirmed exploitation; WordPress 6.9.5 and 7.0.2 fix the flaws.

On July 17, 2026 WordPress disclosed CVE-2026-63030, a REST API route-confusion flaw, and CVE-2026-60137, a SQL injection in WP_Query, which chain to unauthenticated remote code execution on default installs of WordPress 6.9.0-6.9.4 and 7.0.0-7.0.1. CISA has added both to the Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog and active exploitation is confirmed. Cloudflare deployed WAF rules at 17:03 UTC on July 17, and patches are available in WordPress 6.9.5 and 7.0.2.

WordPress wp2shell Vulnerabilities Exploited in the Wild (CVE-2026 ...

Public exploit code emerged for the WordPress wp2shell pre-auth RCE chain (CVE-2026-63030, CVE-2026-60137); CISA set a July 24 patching deadline.

CVE-2026-63030 (REST API batch-route confusion) chained with CVE-2026-60137 (SQL injection in WP_Query's author__not_in) enables pre-authentication RCE in WordPress core, affecting versions 6.8.0-7.0.1. Multiple researchers published working PoCs on GitHub that extract password hashes, crack admin credentials, and upload malicious plugins. CISA added both CVEs to its KEV catalog with a July 24, 2026 deadline, and WordPress.org enabled forced auto-updates; fixes shipped in 6.8.6, 6.9.5, and 7.0.2.

Two CVSS 9.8 Auth Bypasses in miniOrange SAML WordPress Plugin Were Exploited Before Any Database Even Listed the Paid Editions as Vulnerable

Attackers actively exploit two CVSS 9.8 auth bypasses (CVE-2026-61979, CVE-2026-15981) in the miniOrange SAML WordPress plugin, forging SAML responses to become admin.

CVE-2026-61979 is a SAML algorithm confusion flaw that lets attackers sign forged assertions using the identity provider's RSA public key as an HMAC secret; CVE-2026-15981 stems from PHP treating openssl_verify()'s -1 error return as true, allowing a crafted signature that triggers an OpenSSL error to validate. Both bugs independently let unauthenticated attackers obtain WordPress administrator sessions and both are confirmed exploited in the wild. DigitalOcean discovered the exploitation via a network anomaly after public vulnerability databases covered only the Free edition (fixed in 5.4.5), leaving seven independently versioned paid editions appearing patched. Attackers are scanning SSO endpoints from six IPs in Belgium, Nigeria, the US and Germany, and paid-edition fixes require manual uploads across version lines.

Attackers Target miniOrange SAML Flaws That Can Grant WordPress Admin Access

Attackers are exploiting two unauthenticated WordPress auth bypasses (CVE-2026-61979, CVE-2026-15981, max CVSS 9.8) in miniOrange SAML SSO to gain admin sessions.

Patchstack disclosed two flaws in the Xecurify miniOrange SAML 2.0 Single Sign On WordPress plugin: CVE-2026-15981 (CVSS 9.8) accepts malformed signatures because mo_saml_validate_signature() loosely checks the tri-state result of openssl_verify(), and CVE-2026-61979 (CVSS 8.1) enables privilege escalation via signature algorithm confusion. Both let unauthenticated attackers sign in as any WordPress user, including administrators; fixes shipped in Standard edition versions 17.0.6 and 17.0.5. DigitalOcean observed an attacker using the bypass to obtain an admin session cookie, opportunistic scanning is underway from six IP addresses, and PoC chaining code is public.

Elementor Pro WordPress Plugin Vulnerability Exploited to Hack Sites

Attackers are actively exploiting critical file-upload flaw CVE-2026-32475 in Elementor Pro, hacking WordPress sites; Defiant has blocked over 190,000 exploit attempts since patching.

Defiant warns that attackers are exploiting CVE-2026-32475 (CVSS 9.8), an unauthenticated arbitrary file upload flaw in the Elementor Pro WordPress plugin's form submission handling, which affects all versions up to 4.2.1 and was patched in version 4.2.2 on August 19. Exploitation began immediately after the fix shipped, with Defiant blocking over 190,000 exploit attempts to date; roughly two-thirds of Elementor's 10 million installations still ran a vulnerable version as of September 4. Successful exploitation writes attacker-controlled PHP files to /wp-content/uploads/elementor/forms/ and can lead to full site compromise; administrators should check that directory for PHP files and review requests to /wp-admin/admin-ajax.php.

PHP Webshell Campaign Targets WordPress Through Critical WooCommerce Plugin Bug

Wordfence blocked over 100,000 exploitation attempts against CVE-2026-27540 in WooCommerce Wholesale Lead Capture, letting attackers upload PHP webshells to WordPress sites.

Wordfence reported more than 100,000 blocked exploitation attempts against CVE-2026-27540 in the WooCommerce Wholesale Lead Capture plugin (roughly 6,000 active installs), which was disclosed and patched on February 20 in version 2.0.3.2. The unauthenticated AJAX handler wwlc_file_upload_handler reads permitted file extensions from the attacker-controlled request, enabling arbitrary file upload of PHP files such as shell.php that report host details and serve further upload forms. Attack activity peaked between June 4 and June 17, 2026, with additional waves on July 1 and August 30. Wordfence rates the flaw CVSS 9.8, while Patchstack's CVE record lists 9.0.

Hackers Exploit WooCommerce Plugin Bug to Take Over WordPress Sites Without Login

Attackers exploit CVE-2026-27540 (CVSS 9.8) in WooCommerce Wholesale Lead Capture to upload PHP webshells without authentication.

Attackers are actively exploiting CVE-2026-27540, a CVSS 9.8 unauthenticated file upload flaw in the WooCommerce Wholesale Lead Capture plugin (versions through 2.0.3.1, ~6,000 active sites). The plugin trusts a client-supplied list of allowed file types, letting attackers upload PHP webshells (shell.php) via the admin-ajax.php handler without any WordPress account. Wordfence blocked more than 100,000 exploit attempts, with activity bursts June 4-17, July 1, and August 30; a patch is available in version 2.0.3.2.
