Cofense published indicators including the Google redirect link plus login.php and key.php paths on the nxcli[.]io host.

The Odyssey and trojans again: MovieReaper attacks users in multiple countries via compromised torrentsnew

Kaspersky uncovers MovieReaper, a multi-stage malware framework spread via compromised itorrents.org torrent files, hitting hundreds of users.

In mid-August 2026 Kaspersky identified a campaign distributing an unknown loader disguised as movies such as 'the odyssey (2026) [1080p] [webrip] [5.1].exe' (MD5 A0B13781EDD7CFDAB13D79AFFF3C83C1) through torrent trackers. The attackers compromised the itorrents[.]org torrent-file repository rather than the trackers themselves, so multiple platforms delivered malicious torrents; the repository remained compromised at publication. Several hundred victims, including individuals and organizations in Russia, Türkiye, Japan, Kenya, Uganda, Colombia and several European countries, were infected with the modular MovieReaper framework, detected as HEUR:Trojan.Win64.Agent.gen. The loader fetches shellcode from deadhub[.]org (fallback IP 193.23.118[.]155), maps it into RWX memory, and uses PEB traversal, encrypted strings and direct syscalls to evade sandboxes.

New Chinese-Made ‘RatHat’ Android Malware Leverages AI to Steal Financial Datanew

Zimperium details RatHat, a new Android banking trojan using a generative AI engine to automate credential and OTP theft.

Zimperium's zLabs identified RatHat, an Android malware delivered as fake APKs via malvertising, smishing and third-party forums, and published its analysis on September 16. Its three-part architecture combines a malicious app, a Go agent (liblocal-service.so) running privileged commands through the ADB shell, and an FRP client (libmedia_codec.so) maintaining a reverse tunnel to the C2. The app harvests banking credentials, notifications, 2FA codes and OTPs and captures screens and inputs, while a dropper abuses SessionInstaller APIs to bypass Android's restricted settings behind four anti-analysis and one anti-debug layers. Notably, RatHat serializes the Accessibility tree to XML and queries a generative AI assistant, likely Google's Gemini, in Mandarin to resolve click coordinates and navigation commands.

SilkParasite-Linked Malware Infrastructure Traced Back Four Years Across Central Asia

Hunt.io links SpiceRAT C2 servers to China-nexus SilkParasite espionage targeting Central Asian governments, with related infrastructure active since 2022.

Hunt.io and researcher Guy Yasur traced a cluster of SpiceRAT command-and-control servers active from late 2025 to August 2026 to infrastructure linked to the China-nexus SilkParasite espionage operation. Shared parent domains, a certificate resembling an Uzbek railway entity, and a cloned RTX Corporation homepage appearing on 13 servers connect SpiceRAT systems to NodeEdgeRAT and NomadRAT infrastructure. Passive DNS records show related subdomains as early as mid-2022, suggesting the infrastructure has existed for at least four years. Hostnames impersonate government, energy and telecom targets across Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.

Gen Digital researchers tested the GPT4Free (G4F) hosted chat at g4f.dev and found requests routed through intermediary endpoints such as an OpenAI-compatible g4f.space endpoint before reaching providers like Google Gemini, sometimes returning different model identifiers such as gemini-3-flash-preview. Provider code referenced JSON files listing over 200 externally reachable Ollama and llama.cpp endpoints whose ownership and authorization were undisclosed. Code paths reportedly retain usage logs for 14 days (IP addresses, approximate geolocation, provider, model, conversation data) and error logs for 30 days, while Privacy Policy and Terms of Service links redirected to a member area instead of the documents.

The FBI, together with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, seized the domains behind NightmareStresser, a 'booter' service the DoJ says launched hundreds of thousands of actual or attempted DDoS attacks against victims worldwide since 2022. Victims allegedly included educational institutions, government agencies, gaming platforms and millions of individuals. The action falls under Operation PowerOFF, an ongoing international effort under which prosecutors have charged twelve defendants and seized more than 100 DDoS-for-hire domains over the past eight years.

NightmareStresser Goes Offline in Global DDoS-for-Hire Crackdown

US law enforcement seized the nightmare-stresser[.]com and nightmarestresser[.]org domains used by the DDoS-for-hire service. Searchlight Cyber reported in 2023 that NightmareStresser had over 566,000 registered users and 52 dedicated servers launching attacks of up to 200 Gbps against Layer 4 and Layer 7 targets. The FBI said the service was used for hundreds of thousands of actual or attempted DDoS attacks since 2022. The action continues Operation PowerOFF, which began in December 2018 and previously took down DigitalStress, Dstat.cc and dozens of booter domains.

FamousSparrow Deploys New SparroWocky Backdoor Against Latin American Governments

China-aligned APT FamousSparrow deployed a new modular backdoor, SparroWocky, against government entities across eight Latin American countries since August 2025, ESET reports.

ESET reports that China-aligned threat actor FamousSparrow replaced its SparrowDoor implant with SparroWocky, a distinct modular C++ backdoor active against governments in Argentina, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama, Peru, Puerto Rico, and Venezuela. Around 90% of the group's targets from mid-2025 into 2026 were in Latin America, which ESET links to regional competition over US influence. The backdoor arrives via a three-component DLL side-loading chain, persists through a Windows service (ProcAuditManager) or Run keys (SnapCart), captures screenshots, and exfiltrates RC4-encrypted data over TLS C2 on ports 443 and 8080. It supports in-memory Beacon Object File execution, API hashing, and SilentMoonwalk-style call-stack spoofing; IOCs for three C2 servers were released.

One Compromised Kubernetes Node Can Expose Every Workload Identity Running on It

Unit42 researchers show a root attacker on a Kubernetes node can manipulate cgroups to make the local SPIRE agent issue other workloads' identities.

Palo Alto Networks Unit42 demonstrated that an attacker with root access on a Kubernetes node can alter Linux cgroup data so the local SPIRE agent matches a target pod's selectors and issues its SVID to an attacker-controlled process. The technique affects SPIFFE/SPIRE deployments, which assume node trustworthiness, and means every workload identity on a compromised node should be considered exposed. Researchers have not observed the method in the wild and released Spooffe, a testing tool to measure node identity exposure.

AWS Says Some Cloud Data Cannot Be Recovered After Data Centers Suffer War Damage

AWS confirmed some customer data in war-damaged Middle East data centers is permanently unrecoverable after Iranian drone strikes hit Bahrain and UAE facilities.

Amazon Web Services said in a September 15 Health Dashboard update that it is unable to restore data hosted exclusively in its Bahrain me-south-1 region and the UAE mec1-az2 availability zone after Iranian missile and drone strikes that began in March. Damage in Bahrain spanned multiple availability zones, exceeding what AWS regional and multi-AZ services are designed to withstand. Customers without backups outside the affected footprint lost data permanently; AWS has suspended regional billing, notified authorities in both countries, and expects further UAE updates in coming months and Bahrain updates in early 2027.

T-Mobile rewards points expiry texts are a phishing scam

Malwarebytes tracks an SMS phishing campaign, active since May 2026, impersonating T-Mobile rewards expiry with 1,000+ templates and 81 rotating domains to lure victims.

Malwarebytes Labs has monitored a large smishing campaign since early May 2026 that falsely claims recipients' T-Mobile Rewards points are expiring, using invented balances like 18,400 points and imminent deadlines to create urgency. Researchers identified more than 1,000 semantically similar message templates (199 scoring at least 0.95 similarity) that vary only in salutation, headline, expiry date, and point balance. The links resolve to rotating domains such as t-mobile.biktpw[.]top, with at least 81 short-lived domains observed over four months, pushing victims to fake redemption pages where they may enter credentials or payment details. Activity peaked in two large spikes and has since declined, though messages are still circulating.

Kubernetes Attack Lets Hackers Steal SPIFFE Workload Identities and Impersonate Applications

Unit 42 detailed a Kubernetes technique where node-root attackers spoof cgroup selectors to steal SPIFFE/SPIRE workload identities and impersonate applications.

Palo Alto Networks Unit 42 described a post-exploitation technique in which an attacker with root access to a Kubernetes node manipulates cgroup metadata so the local SPIRE agent issues valid SVIDs belonging to co-located workloads. Stolen X.509 or JWT SVIDs let the attacker impersonate victim applications over mutual TLS or pass identity-aware authorization, turning node compromise into lateral movement and privilege escalation. Unit 42 said it has not observed exploitation in the wild and released the open-source Spooffe tool so defenders can measure which identities are harvestable per node.
