The only confirmed attacks were phishing campaigns that weaponized AI brand names as lures, while developer coding agents spawning shells and reading credential stores routinely tripped detections written before AI agents existed.

An Empirical Analysis of CodeQL False Positives and Query Refinements for Java Vulnerabilities

Researchers at the University of Oslo and the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment tested GPT-5-mini, Claude 3 Haiku, Qwen3:30B, and Gemma 3:27B on alerts from the AIT Log Data Set V1.1; given only alert descriptions and log summaries, all four models correctly flagged zero percent of true-positive cases involving reconnaissance, brute-force logins, and initial access. Wrapping the same models in a workflow with constrained SQL queries over Suricata logs, an evidence summarizer, and a verdict stage with revision loops raised malicious-case accuracy to an average of 93 percent, with GPT-5-mini identifying every malicious case across 100 runs. The authors flag it as a proof-of-concept on one synthetic scenario and note models skewed conservative on benign alerts, with GPT-5-mini marking every benign case uncertain.

Water sector passes, government sector fails attempts to spot and halt simulated CISA attack

CISA red teamers compromised both a government and a water organization; water defenders detected and contained the simulated attack, government defenders did not.

CISA's red team gained initial access, elevated domain privileges, and lateral movement into sensitive business systems and cloud resources at an unnamed government organization, whose SOC ignored low- and medium-severity EDR alerts buried under thousands of false positives. A water organization's SOC quarantined phishing-compromised workstations within 2, 10, and 20 minutes, and later detected and isolated intrusions reaching the OT DMZ bastion host. Both organizations underestimated cloud risk, lacked Microsoft Conditional Access for workload identities, and had no process to revoke compromised access and refresh tokens. This is one of CISA's rare public red-team reports since 2023.

Canada's Hospital for Sick Children reported a data theft incident exposing current and former employee data via a third-party application.

The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), Canada's largest pediatric health center, disclosed that hackers stole personal information of current and former employees, job applicants, and SickKids Foundation staff, likely through a third-party software application. The attack briefly took down the hospital's careers website but did not involve clinical systems or patient information. Affected individuals were notified and offered two years of credit monitoring. The hospital was previously hit by ransomware in 2022.

CISA added CVE-2026-86218, a CVSS 10.0 static code injection (CWE-96) enabling unauthenticated RCE in N-able N-central, to the Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog on September 8, 2026. The flaw affects all on-premises builds before 2026.3.1.14 across the 2025.4 through 2026.3 release lines; N-able shipped Hotfix 4 for 2026.3 on September 5-6, 2026. Huntress research indicates at least one customer's N-central instance was compromised on September 4, and federal civilian agencies must mitigate by September 11 under BOD 26-04. Hosted environments were patched server-side, but a compromised RMM server can serve as a single point of entry into entire MSP client bases.
