ICS Patch Tuesday: Schneider Electric, Siemens Fix Critical Flaws

September ICS Patch Tuesday brings critical fixes from Schneider Electric, Siemens, and Aveva, including CVSS 9.2 authentication flaw CVE-2026-3869 in Modicon M580 controllers.

Schneider Electric's September advisories include a critical authentication vulnerability, CVE-2026-3869 with a CVSS score of 9.2, in Modicon M580 and Modicon M580 Safety controllers, plus high-severity bugs in PowerLogic T300 and EcoStruxure IT Data Center Expert. Siemens published nine new advisories, four rated critical across Reyrolle 7SR5, Open Interface Services, Industrial Edge Management, and SIMOVE Fleetmanager and SIPLANT, and began rolling out fixes for CVE-2026-31431, a 7.8-rated Linux kernel flaw enabling root shell access. Aveva disclosed four flaws in Pipeline Integrity Monitor's PIMBoards, including a hardcoded encryption key and MD5-hashed passwords, plus an unsafe deserialization issue in Enterprise SCADA. Rockwell Automation separately issued nine advisories covering RSLinx Classic and multiple controller products.

Microsoft Plugs Nearly 1,000 Security Holes

Microsoft's September Patch Tuesday fixes a record 974 flaws, including two actively exploited Windows zero-days and critical DNS and Windows Shell bugs.

Microsoft released fixes for 974 vulnerabilities, its largest-ever monthly patch batch, bringing the 2026 total above 2,600. Two zero-day privilege elevation flaws, CVE-2026-81963 and CVE-2026-85880, are being actively exploited. Critical bugs include CVE-2026-69730, an unauthenticated DNS weakness in Windows Server 2012 onward and Windows 10 deemed likely to be exploited, and CVE-2026-69829, a CVSS 9.8 Windows Shell remote code execution flaw requiring no privileges or user interaction. Microsoft and other vendors credit AI-assisted discovery for the growing patch volumes.

Emerging Threat: (CVE-2026-60004) Gitea Remote Code Execution via ...

CVE-2026-60004 (CVSS 9.8) lets attackers with repository write access achieve RCE on self-hosted Gitea servers via malicious git hooks; fixed in 1.27.1.

CVE-2026-60004 is a CWE-94 code injection flaw in Gitea's POST /api/v1/repos/{owner}/{repo}/diffpatch endpoint, disclosed July 28, 2026 with a CVSS v3.1 score of 9.8 and credited to researcher Shai Rod (NightRang3r). An add/add collision with the three-way merge fallback (--3, Git 2.32+) writes attacker-controlled content into the temporary bare clone's hooks directory, where it executes as a live Git hook running commands as the Gitea OS user. Exploitation requires repository write access, but Gitea's default open registration allows anonymous users to obtain it, exposing app.ini secrets, database credentials, OAuth tokens, and mounted repositories; a public PoC requires no outbound callback. All releases from 1.17 through 1.27.0 are affected; the fix shipped in Gitea 1.27.1 on July 27, 2026, and Gitea Cloud instances were upgraded automatically.
