First Galileo SAS Authenticated Time Solution

Researchers demonstrate the first timing solution computed from Galileo's new Signal Authentication Service, protecting receivers against GNSS spoofing.

Galileo's new Signal Authentication Service (SAS) on the E6-C signal directly authenticates ranging measurements, closing a gap left by OSNMA, which only protects navigation data. Researchers built a snapshot software receiver implementing a simplified SAS protocol and computed an authenticated receiver clock bias from recordings of both SAS-capable satellites, collected with a Septentrio SDR prototype. The results demonstrate feasible authenticated timing ahead of full SAS operational deployment.

Apple Reference Image: A New Approach for Verified Photography

Apple introduces Reference Image, hardware-backed verifiable photography on iPhone 18 Pro using sensor signing and Private Cloud Compute to counter AI-generated fakes.

Apple announced Reference Image, an opt-in camera mode debuting on the main sensor of iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max that produces securely timestamped, verifiable photographs. The design splits into two phases: a secure digital negative created by cryptographically signing pixel data at the sensor immediately after capture (preventing injection or tampering), then developing that negative into a reference image. Private Cloud Compute handles processing without exposing image contents to anyone, including Apple, and fraudulent reference images can be revoked without revealing the photographer's identity. Apple positions the system as stronger than C2PA-based approaches, which sign metadata after capture, are vulnerable to editing-chain compromise, and can tie images to a device or individual.

Characterizing Network Centralization and Observability in the Remote MCP Ecosystem

A measurement study of 179 remote MCP servers finds heavy infrastructure concentration (HHI 0.736) and a security-observability tradeoff in platform OAuth.

The paper introduces a three-tier observability framework (catalog metadata, passive compliance signals, live vulnerability analysis) applied to a stratified sample of 179 remote Model Context Protocol (MCP) endpoints from two public registries. The Herfindahl-Hirschman Index over ASN distribution is 0.736, well above the 0.25 high-concentration threshold, and 95% of commercial PaaS-hosted servers enforce gateway-level OAuth 2.1 with PKCE. Authentication correlates strongly with hosting platform choice rather than operator configuration, creating a security-observability tradeoff that constrains automated scanning for tool-poisoning vectors without prior credentials.

AI agent authorization risks remain a gap in new NIST-CISA token security guidance

NIST and CISA release IR 8587 guidance on securing signed tokens, but AI agent authorization and delegation risks remain out of scope.

NIST, with CISA support, published 'Protecting Tokens and Assertions from Forgery, Theft, and Misuse' (NIST IR 8587), recommending continuous monitoring and tighter token lifecycle controls for SSO and API access. The guidance does not yet fully address AI agent identity, delegation chains, or prompt injection steering agents with valid tokens, and NIST says new or expanded standards are needed. Experts recommend treating AI agents as low-trust non-human identities, maintaining agent inventories, expiring credentials after task completion, and requiring human approval for high-risk actions. The report references shared-signal mechanisms like CAEP and RISC, and follows a May incident where a CISA contractor GitHub repository exposed AWS and GitHub tokens.

The AI security question leaders should be asking insteadnew

Gremlin security officer Frederic Bull argues AI has eroded the attacker-defender skill asymmetry while least-privilege controls remain essential for securing AI agents.

In a Help Net Security interview, Gremlin Security Officer Frederic Bull says AI has narrowed the expertise gap between attackers and defenders, enabling faster exploit discovery even by less-skilled actors. His team processed roughly nine times more vulnerabilities in the past year with unchanged staffing using LLM-based tooling, cutting time-to-remediate by about 5%. He argues least privilege, session-based RBAC via OIDC/OBO, and human-in-the-loop oversight remain the bedrock defenses for AI agents, and that hiring should favor engineers able to catch confidently wrong AI output.

The Illusion of Local Privacy: Confidentiality Boundary Failures in Consumer LLM Serving Systems

Researchers show local LLM serving systems leak prompts via memory residue, plaintext persistence, a llama.cpp tenant-isolation flaw, and timing oracles.

Using the LLAnalyzer framework across four open-weight model families and two deployment platforms, the authors recover plaintext prompts from allocator-managed memory after inference and show wrappers extend prompt lifetime. They also uncover a previously undocumented llama.cpp authorization flaw letting one authenticated client restore another tenant's saved conversation state, succeeding in 200/200 trials, plus a remote timing oracle via shared prompt-prefix caching that works over WAN.

The modern attack chain: Rethinking Google Workspace security in the age of AI

Analysis of Vercel and Composio breaches shows stolen OAuth tokens, not phishing email, now open Google Workspace attacks — a path authorized AI agents follow.

The author analyzes the Vercel and Composio breaches as the same OAuth-first attack chain run twice: a stolen OAuth token, obtained via a compromised supplier, becomes the entry point rather than email. These tokens survive password resets, are hard to observe, and let attackers read Gmail and Drive data, take over accounts, and pivot laterally using stored credentials and password-reset magic links. The piece warns that authorized AI agents with overbroad OAuth grants can unintentionally traverse the same path — accessing inboxes, reading sensitive content, and exfiltrating data downstream — without any malicious actor or compromised credential.
