DPRK APTs: Ted backdoor and curlRAT target South Korean media and automotive sectors

Rapid7 uncovered a DPRK-linked Linux toolkit using a HAProxy-embedded ted backdoor, SSH keylogger, and curlRAT against South Korean media and automotive firms.

Rapid7 Labs identified a previously undocumented framework attributed with medium confidence to DPRK actors, targeting South Korean automotive and media organizations likely since early 2025. The toolkit embeds a backdoor compiled into HAProxy 2.8.12 using its filter API, plus trojanized crond, agetty, atd, sshd, and polkitd, an SSH keylogger storing credentials under /var/lib/sshd/, and a curl-based RAT with a watchdog thread. It enables remote command execution, malicious script injection into served webpages (a watering-hole loop), credential harvesting, and long-term surveillance. Hardcoded C2s are associated with APT37 via ThreatFox, and exposed groupware portals and mail servers align with Kimsuky tradecraft; the initial access vector and any CVE remain unconfirmed.

Passkey-themed social engineering leads to identity and cloud compromise

Microsoft tracks ongoing cloud intrusions where passkey-themed helpdesk lures enable AiTM credential theft, MFA persistence, and SharePoint data theft.

Microsoft Security Research is tracking active cloud-based intrusions, observed since May 2026, that begin with helpdesk impersonation calls and SMS lures urging urgent passkey, MFA, or SSO updates. The lures lead to adversary-in-the-middle phishing or device-code authentication flows that capture credentials and session tokens or grant actor access, after which the actors add authentication methods, conduct Microsoft Graph reconnaissance, and download SharePoint and OneDrive content via REST APIs. Phishing domains embed victim organization names as subdomains (e.g., contoso.add-passkey[.]com), are often registered with Nicenic, and go operational within hours. Microsoft advises revoking sessions and removing unauthorized authentication methods for confirmed compromises.

Zero Day Initiative — CVE-2026-33824: Remote Code Execution in Windows ...

ZDI details CVE-2026-33824, a double-free in Windows IKEv2 fragment reassembly enabling unauthenticated remote code execution as SYSTEM on Windows.

Zero Day Initiative published technical analysis of CVE-2026-33824, a double-free in the Windows IKE Extension (ikeext.dll) caused by improper ownership handling of a heap blob pointer during IKEv2 fragment reassembly in IkeReinjectReassembledPacket(). A remote unauthenticated attacker can send a crafted IKE_SA_INIT message with a Security Realm Vendor ID followed by fragmented IKE_AUTH payloads to trigger the double free. Successful exploitation could yield arbitrary code execution under the IKEEXT service context (SYSTEM). ZDI also provided IDS detection guidance correlating the two-packet sequence on UDP ports 500 and 4500.

VU#889462: Casdoor authentication server is vulnerable to authorization bypass

Casdoor IAM versions 3.115.0 and earlier allow organization admins to bypass tenant isolation through inconsistent authorization checks, tracked as CVE-2026-15630.

CERT/CC published VU#889462 describing an authorization bypass in Casdoor, an open-source access management platform, affecting versions 3.115.0 and earlier. The flaw (CVE-2026-15630) stems from controllers ignoring the ?id= query parameter used for authorization decisions and acting on JSON body fields instead, letting a single-organization administrator perform unauthorized administrative actions against arbitrary organizations in multi-tenant deployments. Impact can escalate to complete tenant-isolation compromise and potential compromise of the entire Casdoor instance, including SSO/SAML disruption. No vendor patch is available because researchers could not reach Casdoor; mitigations include least privilege, MFA for admin accounts, and alerting on cross-organization administrative activity.

Rogue ScreenConnect Installations Across Unrelated Hosts Suggest Worm-Like Activity

GhostCode Abuses Microsoft Entra Device Enrollment to Maintain Access After Token Revocation

eSentire exposes GhostCode, a device-code phishing kit that abuses Microsoft Entra device enrollment to persist even after stolen tokens are revoked.

eSentire's Threat Response Unit observed GhostCode campaigns in late August 2026, using BEC-style social engineering that impersonated procurement staff, including BJ's Wholesale Club, via Salesforce contact forms. Victims received password-protected HTML lures disguised as a FlipBook document portal, with junk-data padding, HTML comment injection, and AES-256-GCM encrypted redirects gated by anti-bot checks. The kit exploits the OAuth 2.0 device authorization grant, prompting victims to approve real Microsoft device-code sign-ins with MFA. The group uses valid VPN credentials, deploys the .NET-based GhostContainer backdoor on Microsoft Exchange servers, and tunnels RDP via Microsoft Dev Tunnels and rdp2tcp. In one incident operators exploited BlueKeep (CVE-2019-0708) to create an administrator account, and they performed DCSync replication against Active Directory to harvest domain password hashes. GhostContainer reuses code from Neo-reGeorg, ExchangeCmdPy.py (CVE-2020-0688), and ysoserial, and tampers with AMSI and Windows event logging to evade detection.

Critical Check Point Vulnerability Allows Remote Root Code Execution Without Authentication

Check Point patched CVE-2026-91843 (CVSS 9.8), an unauthenticated stack overflow enabling remote root code execution on Security Management and Log Servers.

Check Point issued a high-severity alert for CVE-2026-91843, a critical stack overflow (CVSS 9.8, solution sk1000155) in the unauthenticated login workflow of Security Management Server, Multi-Domain Security Management Server, Log Server, and Multi-Domain Log Server. Successful exploitation grants an unauthenticated remote attacker root-level code execution. Affected releases span R80 through R82.20 with Jumbo Hotfix takes at or below specified levels (e.g., R82.20 Take 44, R81.20 Take 166), with several older versions end of support. A LivePatch is available and offline urgent bundles (R81.20-R82.20 Takes 28-29) were released; Smart-1 Cloud is already protected.

Iranian hackers use CHOSEN BRICK Windows malware to spy on targets

Iranian state-linked hackers use CHOSEN BRICK Windows malware, spread via Telegram and WhatsApp social engineering, to spy on dissidents and journalists worldwide.

US, UK, and Dutch cyber agencies with the FBI issued a joint advisory on Iranian state-linked hackers deploying a Windows malware strain called CHOSEN BRICK against dissidents, activists, and journalists, primarily in the US, UK, and Netherlands. Attacks begin with messages on WhatsApp or Telegram impersonating trusted contacts or technical support, tricking victims into running malicious files disguised as apps such as Pictory, RunwayML, Norton Antivirus, Telegram, and KeePass. The malware persists via Registry Run keys, adds Microsoft Defender exclusions, and uses a per-victim Telegram bot for command-and-control while stealing email, Telegram and WhatsApp data, screenshots, and audio. Stolen data is exfiltrated via Telegram or cloud services like VultrObjects and StorjShare, and sometimes appears on pro-Iranian leak sites, increasing physical risk for dissidents abroad.

VU#212479: Sentry Seer vulnerability allows attacker-controlled input to be executed in a privileged environment

CERT/CC details CVE-2026-90999: attacker-controlled Sentry telemetry can steer the Seer coding agent into executing attacker code with repository access.

CERT/CC published VU#212479 for CVE-2026-90999 in Sentry Seer: attacker-submitted events through public DSN endpoints flow into Seer's root-cause analysis, which is embedded directly into the coding agent's initial prompt. In the documented chain, the privileged coding agent downloads and executes an attacker-controlled package before any human review, yielding arbitrary code execution with access to connected source repositories. No vendor patch is available yet; mitigations include disabling automated remediation, restricting coding-agent package installation, and filtering telemetry before Seer analysis.

Parallels Desktop flaw hands any local user root on a Mac (CVE-2026-90894)

CVE-2026-90894 in Parallels Desktop for Mac lets any local user gain root via argument injection; patched in v27.0.0, PoC withheld.

JFrog researchers disclosed CVE-2026-90894, an argument injection flaw in Parallels Desktop for Mac v26.4.0 on Apple silicon that lets any local user gain root on the host. The chain combines a world-writable Unix socket for prl_disp_service (which runs as root), weak peer-credential authentication, and argument injection via --use-compress-program in the appliance extraction tar path. Alludo fixed the flaw in Parallels Desktop v27.0.0 in early September 2026; JFrog published technical details but withheld its proof-of-concept script.
