WordPress Security Plugins: How to Choose the Right One

Sucuri's guide breaks WordPress security plugins into hardening, malware scanning, integrity monitoring, and filtering types, and explains how to evaluate and layer them.

The Sucuri guide explains that WordPress security plugins bundle five capabilities - hardening, malware detection, integrity monitoring, activity logging, and application-level filtering - and that plugins run only after WordPress loads, unlike server-level firewalls. It lists leading causes of compromise: outdated plugins and themes, weak or reused credentials, nulled premium software, insecure configuration, and shared-hosting cross-contamination. It concludes with evaluation criteria and a post-installation security checklist for owners without dedicated security teams.

A Malicious Webpage Could Poison Your Local AI Model Behind NVIDIA NemoClaw

Oasis Security found NVIDIA NemoClaw's Ollama binding to 0.0.0.0 enables DNS rebinding attacks that let attacker pages poison model chat templates with persistent hidden instructions.

Oasis Security disclosed that NVIDIA NemoClaw on Windows/WSL paths binds Ollama to 0.0.0.0:11434 without authentication, exposing the API to browser-based DNS rebinding attacks from malicious webpages. An attacker can then modify the model's chat template via /api/create, planting hidden instructions that run on every subsequent inference and persist across conversations, invisible to API consumers. NemoClaw v0.0.35 fixed the issue on macOS and Linux; no fix exists for Windows and WSL paths beyond a warning in v0.0.34. ClickFix moves into the browser: Cryptocurrency theft with Google-hosted C2

Talos tracks a crypto-theft campaign abusing the Google Visualization API for C2, using browser-based ClickFix lures to inject web-skimmer JavaScript.

Criminal actors convinced targets to paste JavaScript into Chrome's address bar or install it in the Tampermonkey extension, injecting a web skimmer into sessions on two cryptocurrency trading websites; Tampermonkey also provides persistence. Since March 2026 the campaign retrieved obfuscated scripts via the Google Visualization API from public Google Sheets documents, hooking the fetch API and replacing cryptocurrency deposit addresses in responses and the clipboard. Lures pose as leaked reports of a nonexistent API flaw at cryptocurrency swap services and spread via Telegram, DarkForums, and paste sites since early October 2025. KindaRails2Shell threatens Ruby on Rails apps (CVE-2026-66066)

Critical CVE-2026-66066 in Rails' Active Storage/libvips allows unauthenticated arbitrary file read and possible RCE; active exploitation now observed.

CVE-2026-66066 (KindaRails2Shell), discovered by Ethiack researchers and independently by RyotaK of GMO Flatt Security, lets attackers upload crafted files that exploit libvips' handling of specialty formats to read arbitrary files, including process environment secrets, potentially escalating to RCE. Default Rails 7.0+ setups using Active Storage with the vips processor are affected before versions 7.2.3.2, 8.0.5.1, and 8.1.3.1; fixes shipped July 29, 2026, with VIPS_BLOCK_UNTRUSTED as a partial mitigation. Proof-of-concept exploits circulated after disclosure, and VulnCheck updated that it observed active exploitation originating from a single French IP establishing C2 to a host in Israel. Akamai deployed WAF rules, but experts stress patching and credential rotation over filtering alone.

Risky Bulletin: Dutch intel services to get extensive new powers

Netherlands proposed a bill granting AIVD and MIVD expanded warrantless tapping, faster hacking powers, and forced data disclosure, citing Russia, China, and Iran threats.

The Dutch government introduced a bill greatly expanding surveillance powers of intelligence agencies AIVD and MIVD, allowing up to one year of tapping without pre-approval and simplified hacking operations against 'foreign adversaries'. Agencies could compel Dutch companies or citizens to provide data under threat of charges, share data with the private sector, and oversight bodies would merge into a new CTT board. The bill follows similar overhauls in Ireland, Germany, and France after Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The newsletter also reports Moonwell hacked for $8.7M, a Cosmos EVM bug exploited for ~$3M, ShinyHunters listing McKesson with claimed hundreds of millions of records, and a pro-Kremlin DDoS claim against Norway's government network.

Isolated-vm Flaw Lets Sandboxed JavaScript Escape to Host for Potential RCE

Critical type-confusion flaw in isolated-vm Node.js sandbox (GHSA-864f-rcv7-6rh4) enables guest-to-host escape and potential RCE; fixed in 6.2.0 and 7.0.1.

Endor Labs researcher Cristian-Alexandru Staicu found a type confusion in the ExternalCopy component's handling of the transferList option in isolated-vm, letting sandboxed JavaScript corrupt host-process memory and escalate from controlled-address crashes to full control-flow hijack of the host, i.e., potential remote code execution. The flaw, tracked as GHSA-864f-rcv7-6rh4 with no CVE yet, affects all versions through 7.0.0 of the library, which sees nearly 1 million npm downloads weekly. It was patched in versions 6.2.0 and 7.0.1 released earlier in August 2026, and full exploit details are withheld to prevent attacks. The V8 Isolate boundary itself held; the failure was in the C++ marshalling code bridging host and guest.

Scam Attacks Taking Advantage of the Popularity of the Generative AI Wave

Unit 42 finds about 225 generative AI-themed domains registered daily since ChatGPT's launch, with nearly 29 percent suspicious, fueling scams and PUP delivery.

Palo Alto Networks analyzed new domain registrations containing generative AI keywords such as chatgpt, prompt, and sora since ChatGPT's November 2022 launch, observing around 225 GenAI-related registrations per day. About 28.75 percent of these domains are suspicious, a rate 22 times higher than for general new domains, with registration spikes aligning with milestones like Bing ChatGPT integration, the GPT-4 release, new GPTs, and OpenAI's Sora announcement. Over 72 percent of the domains use gpt or chatgpt keywords, and gpt domains show a 76 percent suspicious rate. Case studies cover PUP delivery, spam distribution, and monetized domain parking, with 35 percent of traffic to these domains directed at suspicious ones.

ApateWeb: An Evasive Large-Scale Scareware and PUP Delivery Campaign

Unit 42 uncovers ApateWeb, a campaign using over 130,000 domains and multilayered redirects to deliver scareware, adware and PUPs to millions of users.

Unit 42 discovered ApateWeb, a large-scale campaign using a network of more than 130,000 domains to deliver scareware, potentially unwanted programs, adware including a rogue browser and browser extensions, and scam pages. The campaign uses a three-layer structure with deceptive emails as the entry point, centralized victim tracking via UUIDs, intermediate adware or anti-bot redirections, and evasion tactics such as cloaking, bot detection error pages, and wildcard DNS abuse. Activity spiked since August 2022, with several hundred attacker-controlled sites remaining in Tranco's top 1 million rankings and millions of monthly hits; Unit 42 blocked an estimated 3.5 million sessions across 74,711 devices in November 2023.

Building a Linux GPU Driver for the M4 Mac Mini in One Month

Two developers built a fully OpenGL ES 3.0 compliant Linux GPU driver for the M4 Mac Mini in one month via clean-room reverse engineering.

Niklas and the author reverse engineered Apple's AGX GPU firmware ABI and user-space components in about a month, a process that normally takes years, producing an OpenGL ES 3.0 conformant driver fast enough to run Minecraft at 200fps on an M4 Mac Mini. The work was done transparently using hypervisor traces without examining Apple binaries, following clean-room practices, and included a custom shader compiler, command stream builder, and a full Linux kernel driver for the firmware ABI. The A18 Pro firmware ABI proved significantly more complex than the M1's, with 1.5x as many structs and twice as many pointers. All experiments and provenance evidence were published in public agx-re repositories.
