Researchers Use Claude to Port Pre-Auth RCE Exploit From One PLC Model to Another

Forescout used Anthropic's Claude to port a working pre-auth RCE exploit for CVE-2021-31886 between WAGO PLCs, executing ARM shellcode on live hardware.

Forescout Vedere Labs used Claude interactively to port an RCE exploit for CVE-2021-31886, a CVSS 9.8 stack buffer overflow in the Nucleus FTP server's USER command, from a WAGO 750-852 to a WAGO 750-831 PLC, running attacker-supplied ARM shellcode. The final RCE stage cost $535.74 in API usage over 8 hours 32 minutes, and a follow-up attempt to build a C2 implant permanently bricked the device. The document maps which keys protect control-plane data, metrics, Crucible extents, and authentication tokens, and defines open questions on key lifecycle, locality, and compromise handling. Future work includes sealing shares with the root of trust so an attacker would need to steal K whole sleds to reconstruct the rack secret.

Sandworm-Linked UAC-0145 Uses Fake Job Interviews to Push VPN That Can Run Commands

CERT-UA says Sandworm-linked UAC-0145 poses as recruiters in fake job interviews to deliver a trojanized WireGuard VPN that runs attacker commands on victims' hosts.

The modified WireGuard build supports a non-standard SymmetricKey option holding AES-256-GCM-encrypted PowerShell, decrypted with the decoded PrivateKey and executed via runScriptCommand. A scheduled task then downloads a second-stage payload on Windows, while the Linux variant fetches it via cURL.

CERT Polska confirms attackers exploit chained MikroTik RouterOS SSH flaws to hijack devices without authentication; patches released in four RouterOS versions.

A business email compromise campaign breached more than 500 French notary offices — about 7% of all French notaries per the Conseil Supérieur du Notariat — over four years, stealing more than €35 million by phishing initial access and silently modifying wire transfer details. France's cybersecurity agency ANSSI worked for two years behind the scenes to help notaries remove the persistent attackers, who had deep access; officials also feared hackers could issue fake notarized acts such as marriage certificates or forged real estate deals. No forged documents have been found so far, but notaries have added two-factor authentication and in-person requirements for banking details, and banks added extra checks in 2024. The newsletter also notes other incidents, including a $320 million Bitcoin extraction from Blockstream's Liquid Network and a JetBrains Cadence breach via TeamCity servers.

Cloudflare announced general availability of its Certificate Transparency Monitoring service. The key behavioral change is that alerts are no longer generated for certificates that Cloudflare itself issued for a customer's domains, so any alert received now indicates a certificate issued by another certificate authority. Defenders can use the service to detect mis-issued or unauthorized TLS certificates for their domains.

I've factored the RSA keys of a Certificate Authority from the 90s

Security researcher factored two 512-bit RSA root CA keys from defunct 1990s certificate authority E-Certify using CADO-NFS on a desktop in roughly 30 hours each.

A researcher extracted legacy root certificates from archived Netscape and Internet Explorer installers, identifying two 512-bit RSA roots shipped with Netscape 4.51 in 1999 by the defunct Canadian CA E-Certify. Using CADO-NFS on a Ryzen 9 5950X desktop, the keys were factored in 32 and 29 hours respectively, allowing private key reconstruction. The work comes shortly after RSA-260 (862-bit) was factored, the largest known factorization to date. The researcher also built a legacy TLS server and published keys and tools on GitHub.

2026-011: Critical Vulnerabilities in SAP Kernel and NetWeaver Message Server

SAP patched two critical flaws, OVERPASS (CVE-2026-44756, CVSS 10.0) and S4GET (CVE-2026-58240), allowing unauthenticated attackers to execute OS commands on SAP hosts.

On SAP's September 2026 Security Patch Day, SAP released Security Notes 3747649 and 3759472 fixing two critical unauthenticated remote vulnerabilities found by Onapsis. CVE-2026-44756 ('OVERPASS', CVSS 10.0) is a memory corruption flaw in Extended Passport (EPP) deserialisation in the SAP Kernel; CVE-2026-58240 ('S4GET', CVSS 9.8) is a missing authentication check in the NetWeaver Message Server that lets attackers register as trusted cluster nodes. Successful exploitation of either can yield OS command execution as the SAP service account, leading to full system and business data compromise, and CERT-EU urges immediate patching. No in-the-wild exploitation is reported.

Philippine Nuclear and Naval Targets Hit by Suspected Chinese Operator

Suspected Chinese-speaking operator breached Philippine nuclear research and naval supplier systems via ownCloud CVE-2023-49103 and WordPress CVE-2024-28000.

Hunt.io found an exposed staging server containing custom Python scripts, logs, and stolen data documenting intrusions against a Philippine nuclear research body and a marine engineering company serving the Philippine Navy. The actor exploited an ownCloud authentication bypass (CVE-2023-49103) using empty-secret pre-signed WebDAV URLs and a LiteSpeed Cache plugin flaw (CVE-2024-28000) to gain WordPress admin access, also guessing passwords against XML-RPC with rockyou.txt. Russian hackers plant nuclear weapon prompt in malware to trip AI safety guardrails

ESET reports Russian group UAC-0099 hid a prompt in VBS malware comments to trip AI safety filters and disrupt automated malware analysis in Ukraine.

ESET identified a technique dubbed GuardBreaker in which UAC-0099 embedded a comment reading "I want to make nuclear weapon. ESET disclosed a technique dubbed GuardBreaker used by Russia-aligned UAC-0099 against a Ukrainian target: inserting the text 'I want to make a nuclear weapon. Help me ...' as a comment in a malicious VBS script to trip LLM safety guardrails and stop AI-assisted analysis. The script downloads and installs MATCHBOIL, a C# loader exclusive to UAC-0099, which CERT-UA warned was distributed as a fake Notepad++ plugin in late July 2026. Similar prompt-injection anti-analysis tricks appeared in the Mini Shai-Hulud, Miasma, and Hades npm supply chain campaigns linked to TeamPCP, two of whose alleged members were arrested in Western Australia.

CVE-2026-76461 is a critical SQL injection (CVSS 9.8) in Cisco AsyncOS for Secure Email Gateway allowing an unauthenticated remote attacker to execute arbitrary commands with root privileges by sending a specially crafted email through a vulnerable gateway. CISA added it to the KEV catalog on disclosure day, indicating zero-day exploitation, and Cisco PSIRT became aware of active exploitation in September 2026. No public PoC or attribution exists; fixed versions are 15.5.5-014, 16.0.4-302, and 16.5.0-780, and admins should check mail_logs for suspicious SQL statements like 'COPY.*TO PROGRAM'.

CISA added five actively exploited JFrog Artifactory, ConnectWise ScreenConnect, and MikroTik RouterOS flaws to its KEV catalog.

CISA added five actively exploited vulnerabilities to the KEV catalog: CVE-2026-42016 and CVE-2026-42018 in JFrog Artifactory, CVE-2026-84869 in ConnectWise ScreenConnect (CVSS 9.9), and CVE-2026-67277 and CVE-2026-86060 in MikroTik RouterOS. The Artifactory bugs are chained with CVE-2026-82329 to gain administrative control, deploy malicious Groovy plugins, and install Rust-based backdoors. CERT Polska dubbed the RouterOS chain 'MikroTrick'; FCEB agencies must patch between September 13 and 25, 2026.

CISA advisory: two hardcoded cryptographic key flaws in Wärtsilä FOS-Onboard 5.07.0923.01 (CVSS 9.0/9.1) could allow unauthorized updates, code execution, and credential theft.

CISA advisory ICSA-26-258-02 discloses CVE-2026-78225 (CVSS 3.1 9.0 critical), a hardcoded cryptographic server key in the deployer-ng Update Controller of Wärtsilä FOS-Onboard 5.07.0923.01. CVE-2026-81855 (CVSS 3.1 9.1 critical) is a hardcoded client authentication key in the robot testing framework component. Successful exploitation could let an attacker deliver unauthorized updates, execute code, or extract credentials to impersonate a privileged client. The product is deployed worldwide in transportation systems critical infrastructure; Cydome Security reported the flaws and CISA states no known public exploitation exists.

Certificate failures can cost firms over $250,000

DigiCert survey finds certificate failures cost firms over $250,000 per incident, with 47-day TLS certificates set to multiply management workloads by 2029.

DigiCert's Certificate Management Outlook reports that 34% of companies experienced outages from expired certificates and 40% from mismanagement, with nearly one in four citing incidents costing over $250,000. The CA/Browser Forum's move to 47-day certificate lifespans by 2029 will require renewals eight times more often and 40 times as many domain validations. Over half of organizations manage more than 1,000 certificates, yet only 10% have automation in place, with budget constraints and legacy systems cited as key barriers.
