Detect and disrupt AI-themed attacks with Microsoft Defender

Microsoft Threat Intelligence reports criminal campaigns impersonating ChatGPT, Copilot, Claude, and DeepSeek in phishing, AiTM, and malvertising attacks reaching 100,000 emails daily.

Microsoft Threat Intelligence observed a growing set of campaigns that abuse trust in popular AI brands: a ChatGPT-themed phishing campaign sent up to 100,000 emails in one day to steal payment card data, and a Claude-themed campaign used adversary-in-the-middle techniques to harvest credentials and access tokens. Other campaigns included malvertising for a fake AI Windows plugin delivering the Vidar stealer and fraudulent DeepSeek installers distributed via GitHub. Initial access broker Storm-3075 used AI-themed malvertising to distribute payloads for multiple downstream actors, and Microsoft notes the AI services themselves were not compromised. Microsoft also details Defender protections such as Safe Links, Safe Attachments, and attack disruption against these multi-stage lures.

Android car head units infected with proxy botnet malware through built-in software updaters

Kaspersky found malware delivered via car head unit updaters, attributed to the MoYu Group's BADBOX operation, recruiting devices into a proxy botnet.

Kaspersky discovered malware delivered through the built-in TWCore system updater in Android-based car head units running DoFun infotainment firmware, turning devices into ad-fraud tools and nodes in a proxy botnet. The three-stage infection chain (JarService dropper, loader, and final payload supporting nine commands) installs the zhima reverse-proxy module, which Nokia's Deepfield team independently found on TV set-top boxes. Kaspersky attributes the operation with high confidence to the MoYu Group, linked to the BADBOX supply-chain botnet first identified by HUMAN Security in 2023. DoFun closed the gap after Kaspersky's responsible disclosure.

Android Car Malware Spreads Through Built

Kaspersky found MoYu Group malware infecting DoFun Android car head units via firmware updaters, enabling ad fraud and proxy botnet operations.

Kaspersky discovered in June 2026 the first documented malware specifically infecting Android-based car head units, spread through the built-in updater (TWCore) of DoFun head unit firmware via a dropper dubbed JarService. The multi-stage implant supports nine commands enabling unwanted ads, ad fraud, and additional module downloads, and installs the zhima reverse proxy module. The campaign is attributed with high confidence to the MoYu Group behind the BADBOX ad fraud and residential proxy scheme; the distribution issue was fixed after responsible disclosure.

Telegram Desktop Flaw Lets Hidden JavaScript Exfiltrate Messages From HTML Exports

Telegram Desktop HTML export XSS (CVSS 8.2) let bot messages exfiltrate exported chats; fixed in 7.0.1 but old exports stay vulnerable.

ExPatch researchers found that Telegram Desktop versions 4.15.1 (March 2024) through 6.9.3 wrote bot inline-keyboard button text into HTML chat exports without escaping, allowing a bot to plant invisible JavaScript. When a user opened the export in a browser, the script could exfiltrate every message in that 1,000-message file, rewrite the displayed content, or fake a verification form. The flaw (rated CVSS 3.1 8.2) was fixed by commit 8457d13a in 6.9.4 beta (July 3, 2026) and 7.0.1 stable (July 14, 2026), but pre-fix exports remain dangerous since updating the app does not fix old files. No CVE identifier or Telegram security advisory exists, and no exploitation in the wild is claimed.

Kaspersky reports first known malware infecting Android car head units via firmware updaters, repurposing vehicles as BADBOX proxy nodes for ad fraud.

Kaspersky documented the first known malware infection of Android-based car head units, delivered through the built-in TWCore firmware updater on DoFun devices via an MQTT-driven installation flag. The malware supports nine commands, including clipboard changes, HTTP requests, and JavaScript loading, checking in with C2 every 90 minutes. Kaspersky attributes the campaign with high confidence to MoYu Group, linked to the BADBOX botnet.

CVE-2026-57822: Apache Artemis, Apache ActiveMQ Artemis: Message-based management parameter deserialization may lead to denial of service

Apache fixed CVE-2026-57822, a deserialization flaw in ActiveMQ Artemis management messaging letting authorized clients trigger broker denial of service.

Apache disclosed a deserialization issue in message-based management request handling for Apache Artemis and Apache ActiveMQ Artemis. It affects Apache Artemis (artemis-core-client) 2.50.0 through 2.56.0 and ActiveMQ Artemis (artemis-core-client) 1.3.0 through 2.44.0. Exploitation requires an authenticated client authorized with MANAGE permission using management-via-messaging; parameter processing can trigger denial of service. Apache rates the issue as important.

BambooToken malware controls Windows and Linux systems via MQTT

Lumen Black Lotus Labs exposes BambooToken, a China-aligned malware framework using MQTT C2 to backdoor Windows and Linux systems at roughly a dozen enterprises.

Lumen's Black Lotus Labs documented BambooToken, a previously unknown malware framework active since at least 2023 that adopted MQTT for command-and-control in 2024-2025 variants targeting Windows and Linux. Infection occurs via DLL side-loading through digitally signed Tendyron OnKey USB-token software or an impersonated Kingsoft Office installer; dead code suggests keylogging, clipboard theft, audio/webcam capture, and screenshot modules. Telemetry identified roughly a dozen compromised entities, mostly in Asia and South America, including a Hong Kong GitLab server and possibly users of the SpeedCN VPN service. Targeting patterns are consistent with China-aligned operations, though no attribution to a known cluster was made.

Will AI kill us all within the next decade?

Anthropic alignment lead Evan Hubinger says he personally estimates a greater than 10% chance AI could kill all humans within the next decade.

Anthropic's Alignment Science lead Evan Hubinger publicly endorsed researcher Jacob Coxon's warning, giving a personal estimate of a greater than 10% chance of AI causing human extinction within a decade, driven by recursive self-improvement. Hubinger described the risk from current models as low, focusing his concern on future systems with far greater autonomy. The piece argues for safeguards such as independent testing, limits on high-risk autonomous uses, transparency, and accountability.

ChatGPT Flaw Let a Planted Prompt Send a Victim's Gmail Data to Another Account

Check Point showed a planted prompt could make ChatGPT silently exfiltrate Gmail data via a hidden cross-container channel; OpenAI took the service offline.

Check Point Research demonstrated that a single planted instruction in a ChatGPT conversation could make the model silently exfiltrate Gmail data, chat history, and files to an attacker's account while replying normally to the user. The covert channel abused read/write properties on files in an internal JFrog Artifactory instance shared by ChatGPT code-execution containers across accounts, turning package metadata into shared storage. Injection vectors included pasted prompts, shared conversations, and custom GPT builder instructions; default connected-app permissions allowed Gmail reads without user approval. OpenAI confirmed the internal service was taken offline after disclosure; this is Check Point's second reported ChatGPT covert channel after a DNS-based one fixed in February.
