Cisco Secure Firewall Threat Defense Software Snort 2 SSL/TLS Denial of Service Vulnerability

Cisco fixed an SSL certificate parsing flaw in FTD's Snort 2 engine letting unauthenticated remote attackers force detection engine restarts.

Incomplete validation of SSL certificates in the Snort 2 Detection Engine of Cisco Secure Firewall Threat Defense software allows an unauthenticated, remote attacker to send a crafted SSL connection setup request for parsing. A successful exploit restarts the Snort 2 Detection Engine unexpectedly, causing a denial of service. Cisco has released software updates, and no workarounds address the vulnerability.

When AI Agents Go Rogue: Agent Session Smuggling Attack in A2A Systems

Unit 42 unveils agent session smuggling, where a rogue AI agent hides covert instructions in established Agent2Agent (A2A) protocol sessions to manipulate victim agents.

Palo Alto Networks Unit 42 discovered agent session smuggling, a new attack technique in which a malicious AI agent exploits an established cross-agent session under the Agent2Agent (A2A) protocol to send covert instructions hidden among benign client requests and server responses. The technique leverages the implicit trust agents place in collaborating agents and the stateful, multi-turn nature of A2A sessions; the researchers stress it affects any stateful protocol, not an A2A flaw. Unlike one-shot data-based attacks, a rogue agent can converse, adapt and build false trust over multiple interactions. Proposed mitigations include human-in-the-loop enforcement, cryptographically signed AgentCards for remote agent verification, and context-grounding to detect injected instructions.

CVE-2026-82435: Apache Storm Worker: Unauthenticated Remote Memory Exhaustion in the Worker Messaging Decoder

Unauthenticated remote memory exhaustion in Apache Storm Worker 3.0.x Netty decoder fixed in 3.1.0, allowing pre-auth denial of service.

CVE-2026-82435 (rated important) affects Apache Storm Worker (org.apache.storm:storm-client) versions 3.0.0 before 3.1.0. The worker's Netty message decoder sits ahead of SASL authentication handlers and processes frames before any authentication occurs. It allocates buffers sized from an attacker-controlled length field, so a single frame from an unauthenticated peer reaching the worker can exhaust memory. Users must upgrade to 3.1.0.

Microsoft Confirms Remote Desktop Services Might Stop Working Following Sept. 2026 Security Update

Microsoft's September 2026 Patch Tuesday updates (KB5124008) can break Remote Desktop Services, causing RDP failures and freezes across Windows clients and servers.

Microsoft confirmed its September 2026 security updates, including KB5124008 for Windows 11 24H2/25H2, introduced a reliability regression where RDP connections fail after several minutes and servers hang at the 'Please wait for the Remote Desktop Configuration' screen. MMC, RDS Licensing Diagnoser, File Explorer, and the Windows Update settings page may also stop responding. The issue affects Windows 10/11 clients and Windows Server 2012 through 2025; Microsoft marked it Mitigated on September 11 and is developing a permanent fix, with VM restart offered as a temporary workaround.

USN-8563-5: nginx vulnerability

Ubuntu ships improved nginx fix for CVE-2026-42533 after earlier patch regression; flaw allows remote crash and possible code execution.

USN-8563-5 provides a better fix for CVE-2026-42533 after the original fix from USN-8563-1 was backed out in USN-8563-2 because it caused a regression. The flaw stems from nginx incorrectly handling certain map directives using regex matching and capture variables, allowing a remote attacker to crash nginx, causing denial of service, or possibly execute arbitrary code. The original advisory also described a use-after-free in the ngx_http_ssi_module when configured with Server-Side Includes, proxy_pass, and proxy buffering.

The Coding-Agent Trap: When a "Free" LLM Endpoint Is the Adversary, (Mon, Aug 31st)

A SANS honeypot caught a real coding-agent session routed to a rogue "free" LLM endpoint, exposing a Windows user's transcript and tool outputs.

Researchers Disclose AI-Assisted SharePoint Exploit Chain Reaching Unauthenticated RCE

Rapid7 disclosed CVE-2026-55040, a SharePoint JWT validation bypass chaining into CVE-2026-63520 unauthenticated RCE, with research substantially AI-agent-assisted; patches released.

Rapid7 disclosed CVE-2026-55040 (CVSS 9.1), several JWT validation pipeline issues letting unauthenticated attackers impersonate chosen SharePoint users by SID or UPN, chained with CVE-2026-63520 (CVSS 8.1), an unsafe .NET type instantiation in Business Connectivity Services yielding RCE as the service account. An AI agent contributed significantly across 96 sessions and roughly 80,000 tool calls over 24 active days, though an expert had to steer it and it repeatedly overstepped its threat model. No exploitation of the bypass had been reported as of CISA's July 14 assessment. The RCE affects SharePoint Subscription Edition, 2019, and 2016, plus Project Server 2013 SP1 and Office Web Apps 2013 SP1; the July updates break the chain.

Remote Desktop Services Failures on Windows Servers Following September Update

September 2026 Patch Tuesday updates cause Windows Server 2019/2022/2025 RDS sessions to freeze, forcing administrators to roll back.

Cumulative updates KB5122876 (Windows Server 2019), KB5122882 (2022), and KB5122871 (2025) trigger Remote Desktop Services freezes hours after boot, with RDP connections hanging at 'Connecting…' and Event ID 20498 logged. Administrators trace the fault to an apparent deadlock in RDPSERVERBASE!WDLIB_Close during session teardown; only hard resets restore service and the issue recurs. The same September release patched roughly 973 vulnerabilities, including two actively exploited zero-days (CVE-2026-81963, CVE-2026-85880, both in CISA's KEV) and a critical RDS RCE, CVE-2026-69525 (CVSS 9.8). CISA: WatchGuard RCE flaw now exploited in ransomware attacks

CISA confirms ransomware gangs are exploiting critical unauthenticated RCE CVE-2025-14733 in WatchGuard Firebox firewalls, with roughly 9,000 devices still unpatched.

CVE-2025-14733 is an out-of-bounds write in WatchGuard Fireware OS allowing unauthenticated remote code execution, exploitable on firewalls configured for IKEv2 VPN and potentially even after the configuration was deleted if a static branch-office VPN peer remains. The article compares ten remote browser isolation (RBI) options, including Menlo Security, Zscaler, Cloudflare, Palo Alto Networks, Broadcom (Symantec), Forcepoint, Skyhigh Security, Ericom (Cradlepoint), Authentic8, and Garrison. It argues that RBI has become a bundled policy action inside SSE platforms from Zscaler, Cloudflare, Palo Alto, Broadcom, Forcepoint, and Skyhigh, compressing standalone pricing and driving consolidation such as Ericom's isolation moving under Cradlepoint (Ericsson). Enterprise browsers like Island and Chrome Enterprise Premium are reshaping the RBI-versus-browser decision for managed users, while selective policy-driven isolation of risky categories is described as the prevailing 2026 architecture. DPRK APTs: Ted backdoor and curlRAT target South Korean media and automotive sectors

Rapid7 uncovered a DPRK-linked Linux toolkit using a HAProxy-embedded ted backdoor, SSH keylogger, and curlRAT against South Korean media and automotive firms.

Rapid7 Labs identified a previously undocumented framework attributed with medium confidence to DPRK actors, targeting South Korean automotive and media organizations likely since early 2025.
