Microsoft Releases Emergency Windows 11 Update Following Patch Tuesday Bugs
Microsoft issued emergency Windows 11 update KB5129195 to fix Patch Tuesday regressions and fully close the CVE-2026-62721 privilege escalation flaw.
Microsoft shipped out-of-band cumulative update KB5129195 for Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2 (builds 26100.9457 and 26200.9457) after the September 8 Patch Tuesday rollup, which addressed over 960 CVEs including two actively exploited flaws, broke Remote Desktop Services, Hyper-V Plan9 folder sharing, and USB audio. The emergency release also strengthens the incomplete fix for CVE-2026-62721, an elevation-of-privilege flaw in the Windows User-Mode Power Service that could let a local attacker gain SYSTEM privileges. Companion patches cover Windows 11 26H1, Windows 10, and Windows Server. Some USB Audio Class 1.0 and AMD Radeon graphics issues remain unresolved.
Windows 11’s strongest security defenses can be bypassed without a screwdriver
Researchers found a script-only attack, 'Download More RAM', that rewrites DIMM configuration chips to bypass Windows 11 VBS and HVCI security boundaries.
Researchers at the University of Birmingham and Durham University showed that overwriting configuration data on unprotected DDR4/DDR5 module chips creates memory aliases that let attackers with existing privileged access defeat Virtualisation-based Security and HVCI, re-enable blocklisted drivers, kill EDR, and bypass group policy. Microsoft assigned CVE-2026-23670 and shipped mitigations in its April 2026 updates; systems with Secure Boot enabled are protected. Affected unprotected product lines are estimated at more than half of the high-performance consumer memory market and over 70% of the gaming segment.
Windows Remote Desktop Client Vulnerability Allows Attackers to Execute Remote Code
Microsoft patched CVE-2026-69485, an 8.8 CVSS RCE flaw in the Windows Remote Desktop Client affecting Windows 10/11 and Server 2016-2025.
Microsoft's September 2026 updates fix CVE-2026-69485, an Important-rated remote code execution vulnerability (CVSS 3.1: 8.8, temporal 7.7) in the Windows Remote Desktop Client caused by use of an uninitialized resource. An authenticated attacker with low privileges could send a specially crafted network request to execute code on an affected server, with no user interaction required. Microsoft says the flaw was not publicly disclosed before patching and rates exploitation as 'Less Likely' with no evidence of active exploitation. Affected products span Windows Server 2016, 2019, 2022 and 2025 and Windows 10 (1607-22H2) and Windows 11 (23H2-26H1), with fixes delivered via KBs including KB5123099, KB5122876 and KB5122882.
Chaotic Eclipse Releases Crowdstrike Falcon ZeroDay FalconFlank
Researcher Chaotic Eclipse released FalconFlank, a PoC zero-day privilege escalation exploit against CrowdStrike Falcon's Microsoft Office macro removal feature.
Security researcher Chaotic Eclipse (also known as Nightmare Eclipse) published FalconFlank, a proof-of-concept zero-day exploit for a privilege escalation flaw in CrowdStrike Falcon Sensor. It abuses the Microsoft Office file malicious macro removal remediation feature, which runs with high privileges, and works on fully updated Windows 11 25H2 and Windows Server 2025 with Falcon Phase 3 Optimal Protection. CrowdStrike says it is investigating and advises customers to disable the Microsoft Office File Suspicious Macro Removal Windows policy. The same researcher recently released zero-day PoCs against Kaspersky Endpoint Security (HardBreacher) and Avast Antivirus (PrettyPrague), the latter dumping the SAM database for a SYSTEM shell.

Microsoft's August 2026 Patch Tuesday fixes over 400 vulnerabilities, including CVE-2026-68820, a use-after-free in the Windows Ancillary Function Driver exploited in the wild by North Korean actors deploying a kernel-mode rootkit in Operation Dream Job. Critical unauthenticated remote code execution flaws in Microsoft QUIC (CVE-2026-62815) and Windows DNS (CVE-2026-62878) were also patched, alongside a SharePoint RCE chain combining CVE-2026-63520 with CVE-2026-55040. Researcher Nightmare-Eclipse released ShieldBreak, a PoC bypassing the July RoguePlanet Microsoft Defender patch (CVE-2026-50656), confirmed working by Will Dormann on Windows 11.
Risky Bulletin: Slovakia finds Russian backdoor in traffic speed cameras
Slovakia's NBU found an SMS-triggered backdoor in Russian-made NERO R-ONE traffic cameras, pausing a 279-unit deployment.
Slovakia's national security service NBU issued an alert against NERO R-ONE high-speed traffic cameras after finding a backdoor that grants shell and network access via SMS from hardcoded Russian phone numbers. The cameras are a rebranded version of the Russian CORDON PRO.M model by St. Petersburg firm Semicon, purchased via a Cyprus shell company under a €30 million EU-funded project. The report also found SecureBoot disabled, vulnerable web management, and unauthenticated live streams; the Interior Ministry paused deployment of 279 cameras pending independent assessment.
Patch Tuesday - September 2026
Microsoft's September 2026 Patch Tuesday fixes 999 CVEs, a record, with two zero-day privilege escalation flaws already exploited in the wild.
Microsoft published 974 own-product vulnerabilities plus 25 non-Microsoft CVEs, totaling 999 — the most CVEs Microsoft has ever released in a single day. Two flaws are exploited in the wild: CVE-2026-85880, an out-of-bounds write in Windows ALPC granting SYSTEM privileges, and CVE-2026-81963, an improper link resolution flaw in the Windows Update Stack also leading to SYSTEM. Chrome's V8 zero-day CVE-2026-85046 was patched in Edge on September 2, but Microsoft had not published a corresponding advisory, leaving uncertainty about other Chromium fixes in Edge. October 14 lifecycle changes end servicing for Windows 11 24H2 Home/Pro, Office 2021, and Exchange Server 2016/2019.
Risky Bulletin: BEC campaign steals €35 million from French notaries
Hackers stole over €35 million from 500+ French notary offices in a four-year BEC campaign; ANSSI spent two years helping evict the attackers.
A business email compromise campaign breached more than 500 French notary offices — about 7% of all French notaries per the Conseil Supérieur du Notariat — over four years, stealing more than €35 million by phishing initial access and silently modifying wire transfer details. France's cybersecurity agency ANSSI worked for two years behind the scenes to help notaries remove the persistent attackers, who had deep access; officials also feared hackers could issue fake notarized acts such as marriage certificates or forged real estate deals. No forged documents have been found so far, but notaries have added two-factor authentication and in-person requirements for banking details, and banks added extra checks in 2024. The newsletter also notes other incidents, including a $320 million Bitcoin extraction from Blockstream's Liquid Network and a JetBrains Cadence breach via TeamCity servers.
China's AI-Enabled APT Operations Are Getting Interesting
Bitdefender links seven RAT families, five previously undocumented, to China-nexus espionage actor SilkParasite using AI-assisted malware development against Central Asian governments.
A Bitdefender report attributes seven remote access tool families to a single actor dubbed SilkParasite, with medium confidence a China-nexus group targeting governments in Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan. The RATs are written in .NET, C++, Go and JavaScript, use C2 via Google Drive and protocols like HTTP, DNS and TCP, and employ modular plugin architectures with regular rotation of infrastructure, encryption material and persistence artifacts. Evidence of AI-assisted development includes leftover test functions, placeholder encryption keys, and GoginRAT and NomadRAT sharing a high-level architecture despite different languages, suggesting a specification implemented twice with AI. The newsletter also covers the US Operation Economic Outcast sanctioning six MOIS-linked Iranian hackers, including hands-on-keyboard operators who targeted US critical infrastructure.
Chaotic Eclipse Releases GenDigital Avast Antivirus ZeroDay PrettyPrague
Researcher Chaotic Eclipse released PrettyPrague, a PoC zero-day privilege escalation exploit against fully patched GenDigital Avast Antivirus.
Security researcher Chaotic Eclipse (also known as INFINITE NIGHTMARE or MSNightmare) published a PoC named PrettyPrague exploiting a zero-day privilege escalation flaw in Avast Antivirus. The PoC abuses a flaw in the Avast Sandbox to dump the Windows SAM database and spawn a SYSTEM-level shell, reportedly working on fully patched Avast and patched Windows 11 25H2. The researcher believes the flaw may also affect other GenDigital products such as AVG and Norton. It follows his recent HardBreacher PoC for a Kaspersky Endpoint Security privilege escalation flaw.
Chaotic Eclipse Released ShieldCrash, A PoC For Microsoft Defender Zero-Day
Researcher Chaotic Eclipse released ShieldCrash, a PoC showing Microsoft Defender's CVE-2026-69414 patch is incomplete, enabling arbitrary file reads as SYSTEM.
Security researcher Chaotic Eclipse published ShieldCrash, a proof-of-concept exploit for the Microsoft Malware Protection Engine privilege escalation vulnerability CVE-2026-69414 (ShieldBreak). The PoC performs arbitrary file reads with SYSTEM privileges on all supported Windows versions, including systems running the September 2026 security updates and Malware Protection Engine version 1.1.26080.3. The researcher claims Microsoft's patch fixed several exploit paths but missed a specific condition that still enables the attack. His recent releases also include zero-day PoCs targeting Nvidia, Kaspersky, Avast, and CrowdStrike Falcon.
