AmnesiaStealer Gives Attackers Live Control of Victims’ macOS Browsers
Jamf Threat Labs analyzed AmnesiaStealer, a Rust-based macOS infostealer spread via fake GitHub pages that also grants live hidden browser control.
AmnesiaStealer is a three-stage Rust infostealer distributed through counterfeit GitHub download pages using the ClickFix technique, a lure shared with Atomic Stealer and MacSync campaigns. It harvests the keychain, 16 Chromium browsers, Apple Notes, Telegram and documents, reusing a password captured via a fake installer dialog. A third-stage stream module clones the victim's browser profile headlessly and lets operators drive the session via Chrome DevTools Protocol, while persistence uses a LaunchDaemon impersonating Apple's com.apple.ReportCrash.agent. On macOS 26 it may replace Chrome's Safe Storage key, a useful detection signal.

Cisco confirmed in August 2026 that CVE-2026-20079 (CVSS 10.0), an unauthenticated authentication bypass in Secure Firewall Management Center, is being actively exploited, allowing remote attackers to execute scripts and commands as root via crafted HTTP requests to the web interface. CISA added the flaw to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog, ordering federal civilian agencies to patch by September 12, 2026. Shared IOCs, identical hot fixes, and a July 23 log entry suggest CVE-2026-20079 was used alongside the separately exploited static-credential flaw CVE-2026-20316 in the same attacks. Cisco released patches and cloud fixes, warns hot fixes do not remediate already-compromised devices, and says there are no workarounds.

Unpatched Magento and Adobe Commerce Zero-Day Exploited to Backdoor Online Stores

Sansec disclosed on September 5 that attackers are exploiting an unpatched vulnerability, named StyleSmuggler, in Magento Open Source and Adobe Commerce to achieve unauthenticated remote code execution, with attacks observed starting September 4. All current versions including 2.4.9 are affected, and Adobe has published no advisory, CVE, patch, or workaround, with the next scheduled security release on September 8. Hosting firm Disrex Group independently confirmed two compromised stores (running 2.4.8 and 2.4.7-p2), both breached within the roughly eight-hour window before Sansec's blocking rules went live. The implant is a ~1.9 MB statically linked Rust binary disguised as a Linux kworker process, re-adding a cron entry every five minutes and in one case reading Magento sessions directly from Redis with no outbound traffic.

The group's Linux arsenal includes DownPro, AlphaAgent, oRAT, a 3snake-based credential stealer, and SSH brute-forcing tools, and it is tied to Trend Micro's Earth Berberoka. Related SEO-fraud campaigns on .gov.br domains were documented by ESET (GhostRedirector), Palo Alto Networks Unit 42, and Hunt.io.

The group used GRE tunnel interfaces with no commit history, rewrote wtmp/utmp/btmp login records, and deployed dormant deep backdoors on Linux systems — one disguised as a SentinelOne agent, another activated by raw network traffic carrying a magic string. Code-level overlap with UNC3886 tooling suggests evolution of that China-nexus cluster's TACACS credential-collection techniques, and Fire Ant used compromised infrastructure to scan SSH, RDP and web ports toward high-value networks.

The actor abused cron jobs, a XOR-obfuscated 'linuxFile' WebSocket backdoor with systemd/cron persistence, a JSP web shell, SSH authorized-keys manipulation, and a reverse SSH tool, with one Babuk deployment reported. A separate vCenter 'vcenter_admin' account creation consistent with CVE-2026-59309 exploitation was also observed from August 1.

It persists via a root LaunchDaemon impersonating Apple's crash reporter and leverages the TCC bypass CVE-2020-9771 against macOS Catalina.
