PHP ships emergency PHP2Shell patches as early attacks emerge
First merged summary.
PHP has patched two critical unauthenticated runtime flaws, while Cloudflare reports early attacks and some sites stay offline.
PHP released emergency fixes for CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619, collectively called PHP2Shell, both rated CVSS 9.2. The flaws can let unauthenticated attackers run code or read worker memory on web-facing PHP, with the highest risk on Apache mod_php, where a request can trigger a bug before application code runs. Official fixes are PHP 8.5.12, 8.4.27, 8.3.36 and 8.2.35; PHP 8.1 and older are unsupported, though minimal source backports exist for 7.4, 8.0 and 8.1. Cloudflare says it saw attack traffic before disclosure and deployed default WAF rules. Exposure estimates conflict: CyberScoop cites more than 1.3 million hosts and a Shodan count near 1.9 million, while BleepingComputer cites a VirusTotal estimate above 5.1 million.
