Acer CEO says memory makers are hyping 2030 shortage fears to protect margins
Acer's CEO says memory makers are exaggerating a shortage through 2030 to protect margins, expecting PC prices to fall after 2027.
Acer chairperson and CEO Jason Chen told DigiTimes he expects component prices to start reversing in the second half of 2027. He said only high-end DDR5 parts such as LPDDR5X-9600 and niche CPUs, including Nvidia’s N1 and N1X, are in short supply. PC prices may still rise 5% to 20% by the end of 2026, plateau in the first half of 2027, then decline. That contrasts with SK hynix and Adata warnings of DRAM shortages lasting until 2030 or longer, after memory prices climbed about 500% in 12 months amid AI demand.
