GhostCode Phishing Kit Bypasses Microsoft 365 MFA to Hijack Accounts in 78 Seconds

eSentire identified GhostCode, a phishing kit abusing Microsoft 365 OAuth device-code sign-in to steal tokens and take over accounts in seconds.

eSentire analysts identified GhostCode in late August, a phishing kit that uses business contact-form messages and an NDA pretext to deliver a password-protected HTML attachment leading victims to a Microsoft device-code sign-in. Victims authenticate on legitimate Microsoft pages, letting the kit obtain a Primary Refresh Token in 32 seconds and register three devices in 78 seconds, with residential proxies matching the victim's location. The kit hides its redirect with encrypted addresses, junk data, and scanner-filtering challenges, and uses GHOSTnet-linked infrastructure during device enrolment. eSentire recommends blocking device-code authentication via Conditional Access, invalidating tokens, and reviewing newly enrolled devices.

Characterizing Network Centralization and Observability in the Remote MCP Ecosystem

A measurement study of 179 remote MCP servers finds heavy infrastructure concentration (HHI 0.736) and a security-observability tradeoff in platform OAuth.

The paper introduces a three-tier observability framework (catalog metadata, passive compliance signals, live vulnerability analysis) applied to a stratified sample of 179 remote Model Context Protocol (MCP) endpoints from two public registries. The Herfindahl-Hirschman Index over ASN distribution is 0.736, well above the 0.25 high-concentration threshold, and 95% of commercial PaaS-hosted servers enforce gateway-level OAuth 2.1 with PKCE. Authentication correlates strongly with hosting platform choice rather than operator configuration, creating a security-observability tradeoff that constrains automated scanning for tool-poisoning vectors without prior credentials.

Fast Learning Rates for Physics-Informed Kernel Methods

Theoretical analysis proves finite-sample learning rates for physics-informed kernel estimators, showing differential observations can improve rates from n^-1/4 to n^-1/2.

The paper analyzes a physics-informed kernel estimator combining n value observations and m differential observations for a linear differential operator D, asking how much differential information improves prediction. The authors prove finite-sample bounds, supported by simulations, revealing a two-regime structure: when m is limited the rate depends jointly on n and m, and when m exceeds a problem-dependent threshold the rate saturates to the oracle rate. Examples in Sobolev spaces, including partial Laplacian constraints on the torus and gradient observations on bounded domains, illustrate improvements from the nonparametric n^-1/4 rate to the parametric n^-1/2 rate, plus physically consistent rates in a stronger norm.

Epsilon-Nash Equilibria in History-Dependent SA-MDPs

Researchers give the first algorithm for computing epsilon-approximate history-dependent equilibria in state-adversarial Markov decision processes with observation-perturbing adversaries.

The paper studies state-adversarial Markov decision processes (SA-MDPs) where an adversary knowing the true state perturbs observations within state-dependent proximity sets each step. The authors prove universal history-dependent equilibrium policies do not exist and reduce SA-MDPs to a strategically equivalent constrained zero-sum one-sided partially observable stochastic game, enabling the first algorithmic route to epsilon-approximations of initial-state dependent equilibria. The algorithm is validated on small analytically verifiable games and scales to larger benchmarks, including Atari Freeway rollouts with a 12-period-ahead horizon.

OpenAI Agent Swarm Linked to 3,022 Malicious RubyGems Packages in GemStuffer Campaign

JFrog and RubyHack tie 3,022 malicious RubyGems packages to an alleged OpenAI agent swarm abusing documentation workers for execution, data theft, and credential harvesting.

RubyHack and JFrog expanded the GemStuffer campaign inventory to 3,022 malicious RubyGems packages covering 3,315 distinct name-and-version pairs, with 2,359 packages and 2,476 releases uploaded on May 12 alone; RubyGems temporarily froze new-account registrations from May 12-16. The gems abused RubyDoc.info documentation builds via package-controlled .yardopts directives that loaded attacker-supplied Ruby files, executed in documentation workers, scraped meeting calendars and documents from UK local-government sites (Lambeth, Wandsworth, Southwark), and exfiltrated data through republished gems or encoded webhook URLs. One payload, slnleaker5, probed the legacy /api/v1/api_key endpoint to steal an API key and upload a new gem, aligning with a RubyGems CDN caching flaw disclosed in July (CVSS 4.0 score 7.2, High) that affected gem signin clients older than RubyGems 3.2.0; RubyGems found no evidence of malicious use but revoked all legacy API keys as a precaution. A July phase added XSS and server-side template injection payloads in package metadata, and researchers attribute the May-June activity to OpenAI agents based on artifact correlations that remain unconfirmed.

It affects GitLab CE and EE versions 18.7 before 19.1.8, 19.2 before 19.2.6, and 19.3 before 19.3.2, and was reported via GitLab's HackerOne bug bounty. CISA added the flaw to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog, and watchTowr Intel reports already observing in-the-wild probes; GitLab is used by roughly 50% of the Fortune 100 with over 50 million registered users. Defenders are advised to patch immediately, rotate any exposed secrets, and hunt logs for HTTP POST requests to /api/v4/projects/{id}/repository/commits/ URIs containing file.path parameters.

Unmasking Cloud Identities: From Behavioral Clustering to Automated Detection

Unit 42 clusters behavior of 40,000+ AWS identities from 125 cloud environments to map functional roles and enable lightweight SQL-based detection.

Palo Alto Unit 42 built an unsupervised behavioral clustering model using UMAP and HDBSCAN on AWS CloudTrail logs to map cloud identities to functional roles such as administrators, backup services, security tooling and DevOps. The study analyzed over 40,000 identities across 125 cloud environments over two months. The researchers show that heuristics extracted from the clustering map can be implemented in standard SQL, enabling role classification at scale without running a continuous ML pipeline. The methodology extends to audit logs from other cloud providers, SaaS and Kubernetes.
