Parallels Desktop Vulnerability Lets Non-Admin Mac Users Execute Code as Root

JFrog researchers disclosed CVE-2026-90894, a critical Parallels Desktop local privilege escalation letting non-admin Mac users execute code as root; fixed in 27.0.0.

JFrog researchers found that Parallels Desktop's privileged prl_disp_service daemon on macOS accepts unsigned local clients through a world-writable socket and allows argument injection into a tar command during appliance installation. Injecting the --use-compress-program option makes tar execute an attacker-controlled program as root, and a one-line proof of concept yielded a root shell without needing a running virtual machine. The flaw, dubbed ParaShells, was confirmed in Parallels Desktop 26.4.0 build 57513 on Apple Silicon and is fixed in version 27.0.0. No exploitation in the wild has been reported; administrators should inventory and upgrade affected installations and restrict local account access.

Re: Retrospective by 'gpg.fail' authors

Sam James replies to GnuPG author Werner Koch that upstream may freely adopt stricter -W compiler warnings, while distros should avoid blanket -Werror.

This is an oss-security mailing list reply by Sam James (Gentoo toolchain maintainer) to Werner Koch in the thread on the 'gpg.fail' authors' retrospective about GnuPG. James states that upstream projects like GnuPG should feel free to enable whatever -W* warning flags they need. He adds that distributions should not use -Werror indiscriminately, allowing narrow exceptions such as -Werror=format-security, and may reject warning-driven bugs that do not reflect real issues. No new CVE or vulnerability details are disclosed in this reply.

NCSC Warns of Critical Check Point VPN Flaws as Large-Scale Exploitation Is Expected

Dutch NCSC warns of two critical CVSS 9.8 Check Point VPN flaws enabling unauthenticated remote code execution, urging immediate patching before mass exploitation.

The Dutch NCSC warned that CVE-2026-85102 and CVE-2026-85103, both rated 9.8 CVSS, allow unauthenticated remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on Check Point Quantum Security Gateway, Spark Firewall, and Security Management Server deployments when VPN is enabled. CVE-2026-85102 stems from improper certificate trust validation during VPN negotiation, while CVE-2026-85103 is a heap-based buffer overflow in ASN.1 certificate decoding. Check Point shipped emergency updates on September 9, 2026, including R82.10 Take 44, R82 Take 126, and R81.20 Take 166 or later, plus LivePatch for eligible systems. No public exploit code exists yet, but the NCSC rates exploitation likelihood high and recommends restricting UDP ports 500 and 4500 to known peers as a stopgap.

CVE-2026-70416 is a critical untrusted-data deserialization RCE (CVSS 10.0) in ObjectScale before 4.4.0.0 allowing unauthenticated remote code execution and full environment takeover, credited to researcher WinD39 (Huynh Dinh Vu). Additional issues include CVE-2025-43936 improper authentication (8.1), CVE-2026-26947 privilege management (6.7), CVE-2026-36591-style weak crypto CVE-2025-36591 (4.4), CVE-2026-76104 permission assignment DoS (5.5), plus third-party CVEs in Apache Log4j, liblzma, and the Linux kernel. Dell advises upgrading to version 4.4.0.0 or later (or 4.2.0.1) and restricting management interfaces until patched.

Plesk Backup Manager Flaw Lets Low-Privileged Users Gain Root Access to Servers

CVE-2026-68488 in Plesk Backup Manager lets low-privileged subscription users exploit a symlink race during restores to gain root on Linux servers.

CVE-2026-68488 is a symlink race condition in Plesk Obsidian for Linux Backup Manager during subscription-content restore operations, allowing a user with Panel and FTP access to change ownership of files outside their subscription and escalate to full root access. Affected versions are Plesk for Linux 18.0.80.6 and earlier and 18.0.79.10 and earlier; Plesk for Windows is not affected. Patches are available in 18.0.80.7 and 18.0.79.11 or later. The flaw requires valid subscription access, so it is not unauthenticated remote code execution, but successful exploitation yields complete server compromise, especially dangerous in shared-hosting and multi-tenant deployments.
