Manifold Security found 77 extensions uploaded to the Open VSX marketplace between July 26 and August 1, 2026 that impersonate real Microsoft VS Code Marketplace tools, with all 77 sending data to mangorbit.com. 58 lightweight variants exfiltrate the hostname, while 19 recon variants collect editor details, OS username, Git remote hosts, CI environment variables (GitHub, GitLab, Azure DevOps, Buildkite, CircleCI, Codespaces, Gitpod), and installed extension IDs. The recon variant retries for up to seven days and can fall back to a DNS TXT record for exfiltration if the primary domain is blocked. The extensions were removed from Open VSX by August 3, 2026; the disclosure follows a separate npm supply chain campaign, ChainDrop, which compromised 450 packages with a Shai-Hulud worm variant.

Analog Pin Directionality as an Exfiltration Attack Surface in Mixed-Signal ICs

Researchers demonstrate exfiltration through nominally input-only analog pins in mixed-signal ICs, recovering data at 10 kbps on a 55nm PPG front-end.

The paper identifies a directionality-based attack class in analog/mixed-signal (AMS) ICs where data-dependent circuit-offset modulation converts a nominally input-only pin into an outbound information channel. Three host conditions enable the attack: a closed-loop amplifier, an exposed amplifier input, and sufficiently high impedance at that pin. Silicon validation on a photoplethysmography analog front-end in 55nm CMOS showed exfiltration at up to 10 kbps with error-free PRBS recovery, under 0.001% area overhead, and only 0.03 dB SNR reduction.

Manic: The Android Malware That Exfiltrates Data Even When the Phone Is Offline

ThreatFabric identifies Manic, an Android banking fraud and spyware platform targeting Ukraine with offline Bluetooth/Wi-Fi Direct mesh exfiltration and device takeover.

It monitors 169 Android apps including Ukrainian banks, government and eID services, messaging apps, crypto exchanges, and 2FA tools, using the Accessibility service as a classified UI keylogger and WebRTC for live screen viewing and remote control. A distinctive store-and-forward relay exfiltrates AES-GCM-encrypted data through nearby infected devices over Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth RFCOMM, or BLE GATT, supporting chains of up to four hops when direct C2 is unavailable. A July update added stronger anti-analysis, in-memory DEX loading, lock-secret phishing to extract device PINs, and hiding from the app launcher.

Telegram Desktop Flaw Lets Hidden JavaScript Exfiltrate Messages From HTML Exports

Trezor Says 347,000 Users Received Phishing Emails After Brevo Hack

Attackers abused Brevo's SAML SSO to access 138 accounts, sending phishing emails to 347,000 Trezor customers and exfiltrating contacts from 43 accounts.

Trezor said 347,000 of its customers received phishing emails with the subject line 'Critical Security Alert: STM32 Entropy Vulnerability' after the attacker compromised the Brevo marketing platform. Brevo said the intruder created an account, enabled SAML SSO, and used its own identity provider to access 138 accounts, exfiltrating contacts from 43 of them. Trezor reported 2,500 users clicked the malicious link before the site was taken offline 20 minutes after detection; potential fund losses are unknown. Swiss wallet maker BitBox and crypto tax calculator CoinTracking also appear affected, and Trezor separately disclosed a ShipMonk breach now affecting roughly 81,000 people.

Fortinet Code Execution Flaw Exploited in PivotC2 RAT Attacks

Threat actors exploit Fortinet heap-based buffer overflow CVE-2025-25249 to deploy PivotC2 RAT, infecting 178 devices and exfiltrating data from US targets.

SOCRadar reports exploitation of an unauthenticated remote code execution vulnerability, CVE-2025-25249 (CVSS 7.4), patched in January in FortiOS and FortiSwitchManager. Attackers scanned over 30,000 IP addresses, infected 178 devices with PivotC2 RAT, and at least two intrusions resulted in data exfiltration, primarily targeting US entities. SOCRadar attributes attacks to a likely Russian-speaking cybercrime actor and suggests the RAT was AI-assisted, in use since July 2026. CISA added the CVE to the KEV catalog with a three-day BOD 26-04 patch deadline for federal agencies.

China-Based Artificial Intelligence Companies Conducting Industrial-Scale Distillation Campaigns Against U.S. AI Companies

NSA, CISA, and FBI warn DeepSeek, Alibaba, and other Chinese AI firms ran industrial-scale distillation of U.S. frontier models, threatening U.S. AI leadership.

A joint NSA, CISA, and FBI Cybersecurity Advisory (AA26-251A) says China-based firms DeepSeek, Moonshot AI, Alibaba, MiniMax, StepFun, and Z.AI extracted billions of tokens from U.S. frontier models including Claude, GPT, Gemini, and Grok, likely with Chinese government knowledge. Campaigns running since at least late 2024 used native APIs, cloud providers, third-party aggregators, gray-market proxy "transfer stations", and shared premium subscriptions to bypass geographic restrictions, evade safeguards, and violate providers' terms of use. The agencies recommend detecting anomalous prompts, accounts, and usage patterns; subtly altering responses to suspected distillers; and cross-organization intelligence sharing. They also call DeepSeek's publicly cited $5.6M training cost misleading because it excludes data acquired through distillation.

IT help-desk vishing tricks executives into handing over Microsoft 365 access

Arctic Wolf tracks PREY-0058 (linked to UNC6671), a vishing campaign stealing Microsoft 365 session tokens via AiTM panels for SaaS data theft and extortion.

Arctic Wolf is tracking a campaign, PREY-0058, sharing tradecraft with Google Threat Intelligence Group's UNC6671, in which callers posing as internal IT talk employees through fake passkey/MFA setups. Operator-controlled adversary-in-the-middle pages harvest passwords and MFA approvals to seize session tokens, then actors enumerate and bulk-exfiltrate data from SharePoint, OneDrive, Exchange, and Box. Extortion brands include BlackFile, Pink, Helix, Cinder, and Redact; targets are mostly US-based executives in construction, healthcare, real estate, finance, and professional services, with exfiltration shifting to residential proxies like NodeMaven.

Nutex Health Says Patient Data Stolen, Hackers Threaten Leak

The Gentlemen ransomware gang claims breach of US healthcare provider Nutex Health, exfiltrating patient and employee data and threatening publication.

Nutex Health disclosed in an SEC 8-K filing that an unauthorized third party accessed and exfiltrated patient, employee, credentialed provider, business, and financial data from company servers, and threatened to publish it. The Gentlemen ransomware group listed Nutex on its leak site; a class action was filed August 27 and Edelson Lechtzin LLP is separately investigating. Nutex operates over 27 facilities in 12 states and served nearly 100,000 patients in the first half of 2026, with no material operational impact identified so far.
