2026-012: Critical Vulnerabilities in Check Point Products

Check Point issued emergency hotfixes for two CVSS 9.8 flaws (CVE-2026-85102, CVE-2026-85103) enabling unauthenticated RCE on VPN-enabled gateways.

On 9 September 2026, Check Point released emergency security updates for CVE-2026-85102 (improper certificate-data validation in VPN negotiation) and CVE-2026-85103 (heap overflow in VPN certificate ASN.1 decoding), both CVSS 9.8, allowing unauthenticated remote code execution. The flaws affect Security Gateway, Security Management Server, and Spark Firewall deployments configured with Remote Access or Site-to-Site VPN, spanning versions R80 through R82.10. CERT-EU advisory 2026-012 urges immediate hotfix application, prioritizing internet-facing and perimeter appliances.

Dell Secure Connect Gateway Vulnerabilities Allow Hackers to Gain Unauthorized Access

Dell patches three critical flaws (CVSS up to 9.8) in Secure Connect Gateway 5.0 enabling admin token replay, unauthenticated RCE, and root escalation.

Dell disclosed three critical vulnerabilities in Secure Connect Gateway 5.0 appliance and application deployments. CVE-2026-80172 (CVSS 9.8) lets unauthenticated attackers replay captured requests, which lack nonce validation and time limits, to repeatedly mint administrator access and refresh tokens. CVE-2026-61410 (9.4) is a missing-authorization flaw enabling unauthenticated remote command execution, and CVE-2026-80238 (9.3) is an exposed Docker socket allowing local privilege escalation to root and container escape. Fixes ship in appliance 5.36.00.16 and application 5.36.00.00.

Cisco security advisory (AV26-921)

Canadian Cyber Centre warns actively exploited Cisco Secure Email Gateway SQL injection CVE-2026-76461 was added to CISA's KEV database.

The Canadian Centre for Cyber Security advisory AV26-921 (September 14, 2026) covers a SQL injection vulnerability in Cisco Secure Email Gateway (AsyncOS) and Secure Email and Web Manager. Affected versions include AsyncOS/Secure Email Gateway prior to 15.5.5-014, 16.0.4-302, and 16.5.0-780, and Secure Email and Web Manager prior to 15.5.5-006 and 16.5.0-429. Cisco stated CVE-2026-76461 is being actively exploited, and CISA added it to the Known Exploited Vulnerabilities database the same day. Users and administrators are urged to apply updates as they become available.

CISA Warns Water Utilities: Find Your Exposed PLCs Before Attackers Do

CISA urged water utilities to secure internet-exposed PLCs after July 2026 attacks compromised over 100 US water and wastewater systems, suspected Iran-linked.

CISA's exposure-reduction guidance, published August 21, follows July 2026 attacks in which threat actors remotely accessed PLCs connected directly through cellular modems, changed device IP addresses and passwords, and in some cases disabled alarms and shutdown processes without notifying operators. Iran is the suspected actor, though officials stopped short of formal attribution. CISA recommends routing remote access through centrally managed secure gateways, phishing-resistant MFA, unique credentials, and external scanning of industrial protocols such as Modbus, EtherNet/IP, DNP3, BACnet and OPC UA.

Citrix security advisory (AV26-833) - Update 1

CISA added actively exploited NetScaler flaw CVE-2026-19490 to its KEV catalog; the Canadian Cyber Centre urges Citrix ADC and Gateway admins to patch.

The Canadian Centre for Cyber Security updated advisory AV26-833 covering Citrix NetScaler ADC and Gateway vulnerabilities in versions 13.1 (prior to 13.1-63.21) and 14.1 (prior to 14.1-73.32), plus FIPS builds. On September 9, 2026, CISA added CVE-2026-19490 to the Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog, indicating confirmed exploitation. The bulletin also references CVE-2026-19489 from the Citrix NetScaler ADC and Gateway Security Bulletin. Administrators should apply the fixed builds, including 13.1-37.277 and 14.1-73.32 for FIPS variants.

Hackers Can Turn Vulnerable LiteLLM AI Gateways Into Root Access and Cloud Credential Theft

Wiz found multiple LiteLLM AI gateway flaws, including a CVE-2026-59822 MCP auth bypass added to CISA KEV, enabling root code execution and cloud credential theft.

An internet scan of 3,074 exposed LiteLLM instances found 294 (9.6%) accepting the default sk-1234 master key and 191 (6.2%) requiring no authentication. CVE-2026-59822 lets a single-character Bearer token establish a valid MCP session via an OAuth2 fallback in versions before 1.84.0; the flaw is in CISA's Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog. CVE-2026-59821 allows Python code execution as root in the gateway container via unsanitized Custom Code Guardrails registration before 1.82.0-stable, and CVE-2026-35029 permits config changes leading to RCE and admin takeover. Admin access plus pass-through endpoints can reach cloud metadata services to steal IAM credentials.

China's AI-Enabled APT Operations Are Getting Interesting

Bitdefender links seven RAT families, five previously undocumented, to China-nexus espionage actor SilkParasite using AI-assisted malware development against Central Asian governments.

A Bitdefender report attributes seven remote access tool families to a single actor dubbed SilkParasite, with medium confidence a China-nexus group targeting governments in Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan. The RATs are written in .NET, C++, Go and JavaScript, use C2 via Google Drive and protocols like HTTP, DNS and TCP, and employ modular plugin architectures with regular rotation of infrastructure, encryption material and persistence artifacts. Evidence of AI-assisted development includes leftover test functions, placeholder encryption keys, and GoginRAT and NomadRAT sharing a high-level architecture despite different languages, suggesting a specification implemented twice with AI. The newsletter also covers the US Operation Economic Outcast sanctioning six MOIS-linked Iranian hackers, including hands-on-keyboard operators who targeted US critical infrastructure.
