Attackers Turn Trusted Node.js Runtime Into Malware Delivery Tool in Targeted Attacks

Symantec reports multiple threat actors, including KongTuke, abusing the trusted signed Node.js runtime and blockchain C2 (EtherHiding) to deliver backdoors in targeted attacks.

Symantec's Threat Hunter Team (Broadcom) reports that since February 2026 attackers have used the legitimate signed node.exe binary and interpreted scripts to deliver implants while evading signature-based detection, hitting government departments, technology companies, and hotels. One intrusion at an Asian technology firm (March 23–July 25, 2026) used ClickFix social engineering, the official Node.js installer, and EtherHiding to fetch commands via the Ethereum blockchain after AdaptixC2 and Cobalt Strike attempts were blocked. Related chains involve KongTuke (Woodgnat) using ModeloRAT, Mistic, NexShield, and GateKeeper, plus C2Looper, AsukaStealer, and EtherRAT; GuidePoint Security separately linked a fake-CAPTCHA ClickFix campaign to at least 31 compromised organizations using the Polygon blockchain as a dynamic C2 address book.

Ambient @ EgoProactive 2026 : Proactive Egocentric Assistance with Visually Grounded Supervision

ECCV 2026 challenge winner reformulates egocentric intervention timing as single-token classification, boosting macro-F1 by 0.249 over free-form generation.

The paper describes the winning submission to the EgoProactive track of the ECCV 2026 Wearable AI Challenge, ranking first in the large-model division and second in the <=2B division. The method reformulates intervention timing as single-token yes/no classification, improving macro-F1 by 0.249 and G-mean by 0.30 over free-form generation. WordlistLoader Delivers Amatera via ClickFix, SynkLoader Phishes Windows Passwords

Gen Digital details WordlistLoader delivering Amatera Stealer via ClickFix and EtherHiding, while SynkLoader phishes Windows credentials through Microsoft Teams.

Gen Digital identified WordlistLoader, an intermediate stage that reconstructs shellcode encoded as plain English words (or 16-byte UUID chunks) and loads Amatera Stealer 4.3.3-alpha1, delivered through ClearFake ClickFix prompts on compromised websites. The chain uses EtherHiding to fetch JavaScript from a blockchain smart contract, hidden cmd.exe via conhost, WebDAV-mounted shares with rundll32 execution, and ETW bypass via hardware breakpoints. The stealer adds hardened WoW64 syscalls, Heaven's Gate indirect-syscall trampolines and a redesigned application-bound encryption bypass. Separately, Expel observed SynkLoader distributed via Microsoft Teams phishing impersonating IT service desks, installing an MSI from Azure blob storage and serving a fake lock screen to capture credentials.

When AI Remembers Too Much

Unit 42 PoC shows indirect prompt injection can poison Amazon Bedrock Agent long-term memory, enabling silent exfiltration of conversation history across future sessions.

Palo Alto Networks Unit 42 published a proof of concept showing that indirect prompt injection can silently poison the long-term memory of Amazon Bedrock Agents when the memory feature is enabled. Malicious content on a webpage or document manipulates the agent's session summarization process, so injected instructions persist across sessions and are added to later orchestration prompts, silently exfiltrating user conversation history. The issue is not a vulnerability in the Amazon Bedrock platform but an illustration of the broader unsolved LLM prompt-injection challenge. Amazon reviewed the research and stated that Bedrock Guardrails with the prompt-attack policy provides effective mitigation.

ClearFake WebDAV infection chain delivers Amatera stealer, ZigCryptoStealer, and NetSupport Manager

Cisco Talos details ClearFake WebDAV chains delivering Amatera stealer to a Ukrainian government organization, with cryptocurrency and credential theft payloads.

Cisco Talos investigated DLL executions named 'verification.google' via WebDAV UNC paths at a Ukrainian government organization, tracking the actor as UAT-10820 and assessing with moderate confidence the activity is Russian and opportunistic rather than targeted. The infection chain uses ClearFake JavaScript injected via a Cloudflare Worker, EtherHiding storage on BNB Smart Chain contracts, and a ClickFix fake Google CAPTCHA prompt to deliver Amatera stealer. Secondary payloads differ by C2: one loader deploys ZigCryptoStealer with a Go reverse TCP proxy and a vulnerable driver that kills EDR, while the other installs an unauthorized NetSupport Manager with a Russia-based C2. Similar Amatera chains were separately documented by Malwarebytes and Blackpoint Cyber, but with no shared infrastructure.

InceptionRAG: Stealthy Poisoning Attack Against Retrieval-Augmented Generation

InceptionRAG fragments malicious payloads into dormant passages that trigger LLMs to self-deduce misinformation via multi-hop reasoning, bypassing existing RAG poisoning defenses.

Researchers introduce InceptionRAG, a stealthy corpus poisoning attack against retrieval-augmented generation that splits a malicious payload into a chain of individually harmless dormant passages. When retrieved together, the passages induce LLMs to self-deduce target misinformation through multi-hop reasoning, achieving over 80% attack success rate across three datasets and three LLMs under rigorous adversarial constraints. A zeroth-order suffix optimization (ZOSO) method automates authoritative suffix generation in black-box settings. The authors also propose HODOR, a document isolation defense that decouples adversarial logical dependencies.

EvoSafeHarness: Evolving Model- and Domain-Specific Harnesses for Securing Agents

EvoSafeHarness auto-synthesizes per-model, per-domain safety harnesses, cutting prompt-injection attack success on AgentDojo to 0.0% at 82.8% utility.

EvoSafeHarness is an optimization framework that synthesizes deployable safety harnesses for frozen LLM agents in a target domain, jointly searching natural-language policies and executable code logic guided by model behavior, domain specifications, and adversarial review. On DecodingTrust-Agent it reduces average attack success rate from 45.6% to 10.0% at a 3.3-point utility cost, and on AgentDojo reaches 82.8% utility at 0.0% ASR, twice CaMeL's utility at that operating point. It keeps mean ASR below 20% under adaptive PAIR attacks and transfers unchanged to unseen AgentDyn suites. The analysis finds domain semantics determine required safety relations while model and runtime behavior determine enforcement points.

What Breaks Under Pruning in Smart Homes, and When? Evaluating LLM Degradation Across Architectures and Task Complexity

Pruning study across four LLM architectures finds dense models degrade sharply on smart-home tool calling while MoE models tolerate far more.

Researchers systematically study pruning-induced degradation in smart-home tool calling across four LLMs spanning dense Transformer, dense hybrid, and mixture-of-experts architectures, combining depth, width, hybrid, and expert pruning methods, and evaluate over 19,500 instances from three datasets after post-pruning supervised fine-tuning. Dense models show narrow safe pruning regions followed by sharp degradation, while MoE models tolerate substantially more pruning. Pruning degrades grounded specificity (operation, device, argument, value) before schema-level intent, and aggressive dense pruning can induce systematic over-refusal.

TWINLOOT Abuses SharePoint and Teams to Steal Credentials and Move Across Networks

Ontinue disclosed TWINLOOT, a Python implant hiding C2 in SharePoint dead drops and Teams TURN relays, harvesting credentials and pivoting via reverse SOCKS5.

Ontinue's Cyber Defense Center identified TWINLOOT during a July 2026 campaign investigation: a modular, PyArmor-hardened Python implant (a 39 MB bootstrap-fat.pyc loader) whose entire C2 infrastructure lives inside trusted Microsoft services. Engineered Persuasion: Evaluating Personalized Pretexts in LLM-Generated Spear Phishing

A study of 180 US workers found each LLM phishing personalization level raised click-intention odds by 28%, but credibility depends on context fit.

The arXiv paper evaluates how personalized pretexts in LLM-generated spear phishing affect perceived credibility, using 180 US working adults across 1,436 evaluations of emails with four cumulative personalization levels, from workplace context to shared-project details.
