HoneyRoute: Honeypot-Model Routing for Adversarial LLM Serving

HoneyRoute detects malicious LLM serving requests and diverts them to a honeypot model, reaching F1 0.911 with 38 ms median added latency.

HoneyRoute is an inference-serving layer pairing a streaming router (a frozen 0.8B embedding backbone with per-domain MLP heads) with a dual-implementation honeypot and an analysis loop that converts trapped interactions into attacker fingerprints for router retraining. On a production trace plus a seven-domain attack corpus it matches 96% of a two-tier guard-LLM cascade's F1 at 1/385th of its latency with 0% evasion under 13 adversarial transformations. Diverting malicious traffic cuts production token consumption under GCG-suffix flooding by 97.8%, and loop training raises detection F1 to 0.933.

The Router Within: Eliciting Native Skill Routing from a Frozen LLM

Gavel reads native skill-routing signals from a frozen LLM's forward passes with two linear maps, beating retrieve-and-rerank pipelines by up to 21.9 points on Qwen3-32B.

Gavel (Glance And Verdict from a frozen LLM) elicits skill routing from a frozen agent LLM using two trained linear maps that read mid-layer states, keeping all skill text out of context. A glance step scores the full library against compact per-skill banks built in one forward pass at installation; a verdict step resumes shortlisted skills' forward passes and fuses likelihood and yes/no judgments as a product of experts. It transfers zero-shot to three public benchmarks plus SkillTraj, a new benchmark of 372 simulated agent trajectories. On Qwen3-32B it beats progressive disclosure and retrieve-and-rerank pipelines adding 1.2B–16B external parameters by up to 13.4 points on written tasks and 21.9 when skills are needed mid-rollout.

A Deep Dive Into Attempted Exploitation of CVE-2023

Mirai-like botnet scans exploit TP-Link EOL router flaw CVE-2023-33538 after CISA KEV addition, though observed exploit code is flawed.

Unit 42 observed large-scale automated scans attempting to exploit CVE-2023-33538 in end-of-life TP-Link TL-WR940N, TL-WR740N and TL-WR841N routers after CISA added the flaw to its KEV catalog in June 2025. HTTP GET requests inject commands via the ssid1 parameter at the /userRpm/WlanNetworkRpm endpoint to download and execute an arm7 ELF binary, a Mirai variant related to the Condi IoT botnet. Firmware emulation and reverse engineering showed the observed exploits are flawed and would fail, but the underlying vulnerability is real and successful exploitation requires authentication to the router's web interface. TP-Link confirmed the devices are end-of-life with no patches available and recommends replacing units and eliminating default credentials.

China-Linked Fire Ant Hijacks Cisco Routers to Steal Credentials and Blind Security Logs

China-nexus espionage group Fire Ant compromised Cisco IOS XR routers and TACACS servers to harvest credentials, capture traffic and suppress logs.

Sygnia investigated an intrusion in which Fire Ant expanded beyond VMware hypervisors to Cisco IOS XR routers, TACACS servers and Linux management hosts. The actor deployed purpose-built router implants that hid a GRE tunnel, filtered log messages, captured PCAPs uploaded to external FTP servers, and used TacTap to inject a library into tac_plus and steal TACACS credentials obfuscated with a single-byte XOR key of 0xEF. A Linux backdoor named BridgeAgent masqueraded as a Zabbix agent, persisted via a root systemd unit, disguised itself as /usr/bin/gnome-shell and received commands over TLS on port 443. The group also used Medusa and REPTILE rootkits, SSH backdoors and renamed binaries impersonating SentinelOne and Cybereason agents, while suppressing logs, disabling SELinux and rewriting login history. Sygnia assesses strong overlap with UNC3886 and published IoCs.

IoT Under Siege: The Anatomy of the Latest Mirai Campaign Leveraging Multiple IoT Exploits

Unit 42 tracks a Mirai botnet campaign exploiting over 20 IoT vulnerabilities in routers, cameras and DVRs to build DDoS botnets since March 2023.

Since March 2023, Unit 42 has tracked threat actors exploiting more than 20 IoT vulnerabilities to spread a Mirai botnet variant, first seen downloading payloads from zvub.us on March 14, 2023. Exploited flaws span CVE-2023-1389 (TP-Link Archer), CVE-2022-30525 (Zyxel), CVE-2022-31499 (Nortek) and many router, camera and DVR bugs. The variant decrypts configuration strings with an XOR key derived from 0xDEADBEEF and lacks built-in credential brute forcing, so spreading relies on manual operator exploitation. Two campaigns observed since October 2022 share infrastructure and near-identical samples.

So you want to use OpenRouter?

Simon Willison highlights OpenRouter pitfalls: provider routing makes the same model endpoint behave inconsistently across backends.

Simon Willison discusses problems, raised by Mohamed Moustafa, with relying on OpenRouter's single API endpoint that automatically routes to the most cost-effective provider. Different backend providers run different serving software with different optimizations and settings, so requests to the same endpoint can behave in different ways. Some providers lack vision capability for vision models, and the reasoning effort option can be processed differently across providers.

New Mirai-Based Evooo1Bot Botnet Targets Linux Devices

FortiGuard Labs disclosed Evooo1Bot, a Mirai-based Linux botnet active since July 2026 that hijacks routers and IoT devices for DDoS, credential theft, and SOCKS5 proxying.

Fortinet's FortiGuard Labs disclosed Evooo1Bot, a previously undocumented Linux botnet active since July 2026 that reuses Mirai's DDoS engine while adding encrypted C2, SSH brute-force scanning, credential sniffing, and SOCKS5 proxy modules. The bot exploits 18 known CVEs across Alcatel, NETGEAR, Tenda, D-Link, Telesquare, and Mitsubishi devices, some dating back to 2007, and communicates exclusively over port 443 to blend with HTTPS traffic. Compromised hosts can be turned into SOCKS5 relays for anonymous traffic forwarding or monetization via proxy services. The malware uses AES-256-CTR, ChaCha20, and XOR obfuscation with a 28-command administration interface.

Home & Small Office Wireless Routers Exploited to Attack Gaming Servers

Unit 42 details an updated Gafgyt botnet variant exploiting Zyxel, Huawei, and Realtek router vulnerabilities to recruit devices for DoS attacks on gaming servers.

Unit 42 researchers identified an updated Gafgyt variant derived from the JenX botnet that combines three remote code execution exploits: CVE-2017-18368 (Zyxel P660HN-T1A), CVE-2017-17215 (Huawei HG532), and CVE-2014-8361 (Realtek RTL81XX chipset). Shodan scans show more than 32,000 wireless routers worldwide potentially vulnerable to these exploits. The exploits act as droppers, pulling architecture-specific binaries from a malicious server (185.172.110.224), and the botnet performs denial-of-service attacks against gaming servers, most notably Valve Source engine servers.

Cisco bundles fixes for multiple vulnerabilities, some critical, into one patch

Cisco patched seven IOS XR vulnerabilities, two rated CVSS 9.8, allowing unauthenticated remote code execution and root access on carrier routers; no exploitation observed.

Cisco released fixes for seven internally discovered vulnerabilities in IOS XR, its Linux-based network operating system for carrier-grade routers. Two flaws, CVE-2026-20274 and CVE-2026-20279, are rated CVSS 9.8 (critical) and involve lifetime resource control issues that can enable unauthenticated remote code execution with root access; the other five are rated 8.2-8.8 and cover buffer overflows, access control failures, and out-of-bounds access. All IOS XR releases including IOS XR7 are affected regardless of configuration, no workarounds exist, and remediation requires software maintenance upgrades (SMUs) or fixed releases 26.2.2/26.3.1. Cisco says the flaws are not known to be actively exploited, but experts urge immediate patching of internet-facing and core routing systems, citing parallels with Salt Typhoon tradecraft.

Free streaming boxes may be routing criminal traffic through your home

Researchers found SuperBox streaming boxes and the CyberFlix TV app enroll home connections into the Popanet residential proxy network, routing criminal traffic.

Researchers found that SuperBox devices and the CyberFlix TV app, distributed through SuperBox's custom app store, contain Popanet proxy functionality that registers the device with servers controlled by the proxy operator, enrolling household connections into residential proxy networks. The reported configuration weakens Android safeguards with exposed ADB access, root-level privileges without authentication, and removal of app-install protections. Plume's research warns these proxy networks can also function as malware-delivery platforms, and the FBI notes foreign entities use residential proxies to conceal activity such as credential stuffing and account abuse. Beyond Top-k Skill Retrieval: Diversity-Aware Skill Routing for LLM Agents

DSR reranks LLM agent skills with Determinantal Point Processes to favor complementary, non-redundant sets, improving multi-skill query coverage.

The paper proposes Diverse Skill Routing (DSR), a diversity-aware reranking framework for LLM agent skill routing that uses a Determinantal Point Process to balance query relevance and non-redundancy across large skill registries. DSR introduces a query-residual diversity kernel that penalizes redundant skill overlap while avoiding penalties arising only from shared query relevance. On the SkillRouter benchmark, DSR improves recall and full coverage over a strong pointwise reranking baseline, with the largest gains on multi-skill queries. The authors argue skill routing should be treated as complementary set selection, not just relevance ranking.

In 2026 it highlights Karpathy's autoresearch loop—700 experiments yielding 20 kept improvements, cutting GPT-2 training time from 2.02 to 1.80 hours—and Z.ai's GLM-5.3 fully synthetic RL environment, judging, and verification stack. It frames these shifts as 'simulation': 10% worse but 100x cheaper and 10,000x faster than human equivalents.
