YouTube Music labels songs made with generative AI
YouTube Music is labeling songs fully made or significantly altered with generative AI, though reports differ on the label categories.
YouTube is adding disclosure labels for songs created or significantly altered with generative AI, beginning in YouTube Music. The Verge and TechCrunch say the labels will later appear in the main YouTube app, and Ars Technica says they are available in the YouTube Music app and on the website, with more detail opened from the player page. Sources disagree on the label’s form: The Verge describes one “Made with AI” label for significant uses such as generated composition and vocals, TechCrunch describes partner choices of Fully Gen AI, Partly Gen AI, or No Gen AI and says Auto-Tune-style pitch correction is No Gen AI, and Ars describes optional full, partial, or no declarations. All three say YouTube asks partners to disclose generative-AI use and may rely on its own detection. TechCrunch says YouTube will not withhold recommendations or royalties solely because AI was used, unlike Deezer and TIDAL, and Ars says Google is not banning AI music. Spotify and Apple Music also label AI music, Deezer offers a filter after reporting nearly 90,000 fully AI-generated tracks a day in July, and Bandcamp has banned AI music.
