New Microsoft Defender 'ShieldCrash' zero-day grants SYSTEM access
Researcher Nightmare Eclipse released 'ShieldCrash', a zero-day exploit for Microsoft Defender that grants attackers SYSTEM-level access.
An anonymous researcher known as Nightmare Eclipse published a zero-day exploit for Microsoft Defender, dubbed 'ShieldCrash', that yields SYSTEM-level access. The release came immediately after Microsoft rolled out its September 2026 Patch Tuesday security updates. No CVE identifier has been assigned publicly and no in-the-wild exploitation has been reported yet. Microsoft Defender ships by default on Windows, so potential exposure is broad until Microsoft patches the flaw.
Attackers Target miniOrange SAML Flaws That Can Grant WordPress Admin Access
Attackers are exploiting two unauthenticated WordPress auth bypasses (CVE-2026-61979, CVE-2026-15981, max CVSS 9.8) in miniOrange SAML SSO to gain admin sessions.
Patchstack disclosed two flaws in the Xecurify miniOrange SAML 2.0 Single Sign On WordPress plugin: CVE-2026-15981 (CVSS 9.8) accepts malformed signatures because mo_saml_validate_signature() loosely checks the tri-state result of openssl_verify(), and CVE-2026-61979 (CVSS 8.1) enables privilege escalation via signature algorithm confusion. Both let unauthenticated attackers sign in as any WordPress user, including administrators; fixes shipped in Standard edition versions 17.0.6 and 17.0.5. DigitalOcean observed an attacker using the bypass to obtain an admin session cookie, opportunistic scanning is underway from six IP addresses, and PoC chaining code is public.
Critical N-able N-central Vulnerability and Active Exploitation
N-able N-central pre-auth RCE zero-day CVE-2026-86218 (CVSS 10.0) is exploited in the wild; on-prem admins must upgrade to 2026.3 HF4.
N-able disclosed a third N-central vulnerability, CVE-2026-86218, a pre-authentication RCE rated CVSS 10.0, and released hotfix 2026.3 HF4 superseding build 2026.3.1.13. Huntress reproduced an exploit chain involving an authentication bypass (CVE-2026-86206/CVE-2026-86207) after a fully patched customer's N-central production server was compromised on September 4. Attackers appended strings like .invalid to account names and probed the /remoteControlAction.do?method=getPierDetails endpoint; Huntress worked with Cloudflare to disable adversary tunnel infrastructure. Hosted N-central instances are already patched; on-prem administrators must upgrade immediately.
