Windows 11 KB5124008 Update Breaks Active Directory Domain Trust and Blocks User Logins

Microsoft's September Windows 11 cumulative update KB5124008 breaks Active Directory domain trust on domain-joined machines, blocking logins despite valid credentials.

Microsoft is investigating community reports that KB5124008, the September 8, 2026 cumulative update for Windows 11 24H2/25H2 (builds 26100.9445/26200.9445), breaks the AD secure channel, causing 'The user name or password is incorrect' errors on interactive logon. Admins reproduced the failure consistently and observed nltest error 1786 (ERROR_NO_TRUST_LSA_SECRET) plus domain controller Event 4625 with status 0xC000006D over NTLM. The problem is suspected in Machine Identity Isolation, a Credential Guard capability that moves machine-account secrets into virtualization-based security, and disabling it via registry value, Group Policy, or Intune baseline restored trust. The September 14 out-of-band update KB5129195 does not address the domain trust issue, and Microsoft's release notes do not list it as a known problem.

PostgreSQL Fixes 12-Year-Old Logical Decoding Flaw Enabling Replication-Role Code Execution

PostgreSQL fixed CVE-2026-6471 (CVSS 7.2), a 12-year-old logical decoding flaw letting replication-role accounts execute arbitrary code as the database OS user.

PostgreSQL patched CVE-2026-6471 (CVSS 7.2), a flaw present since logical decoding shipped in 9.4 (2014) that lets an account with the REPLICATION attribute run arbitrary code as the database server's OS user when wal_level is logical. Versions before 18.6, 17.11, 16.15, 15.19, and 14.24 are affected; exploitation requires such an account, which backup, CDC, and monitoring tooling routinely holds. The fix adds an output_plugin_libraries whitelist, so administrators using non-default plugins such as wal2json and decoderbufs must add them and reload configuration after updating. Cyera Research, whose write-up names the flaw PostGREShell, demonstrated escalating a replication user to superuser with persistence; no PoC or KEV entry existed as of September 4.

Decade-old PostgreSQL flaw turns backup account into a backdoor

Cyera disclosed CVE-2026-6471, a decade-old PostgreSQL flaw letting REPLICATION-attribute accounts achieve RCE and superuser compromise, patched August 13.

Cyera Research's 'PostGREShell' flaw exists in PostgreSQL's logical replication output plugin loading, where the replication code path never called the library-path security check, allowing path traversal or UNC paths to load arbitrary code. A low-privilege backup account can achieve code execution on Windows, Linux, and macOS, then escalate to superuser with persistent backdoor access. CVE-2026-6471 affects versions back to PostgreSQL 9.4 (2014) and was patched in releases 18.6, 17.11, 16.15, 15.19, and 14.24 on August 13. CVSS is 7.2, and no exploitation of this specific CVE has been confirmed, though VirusTotal hunting found 114 malicious PostgreSQL plugins.

Plesk Backup Manager Flaw Lets Low-Privileged Users Gain Root Access to Servers

CVE-2026-68488 in Plesk Backup Manager lets low-privileged subscription users exploit a symlink race during restores to gain root on Linux servers.

CVE-2026-68488 is a symlink race condition in Plesk Obsidian for Linux Backup Manager during subscription-content restore operations, allowing a user with Panel and FTP access to change ownership of files outside their subscription and escalate to full root access. Affected versions are Plesk for Linux 18.0.80.6 and earlier and 18.0.79.10 and earlier; Plesk for Windows is not affected. Patches are available in 18.0.80.7 and 18.0.79.11 or later. The flaw requires valid subscription access, so it is not unauthenticated remote code execution, but successful exploitation yields complete server compromise, especially dangerous in shared-hosting and multi-tenant deployments.

Telegram Desktop Flaw Lets Hidden JavaScript Exfiltrate Messages From HTML Exports

Telegram Desktop HTML export XSS (CVSS 8.2) let bot messages exfiltrate exported chats; fixed in 7.0.1 but old exports stay vulnerable.

ExPatch researchers found that Telegram Desktop versions 4.15.1 (March 2024) through 6.9.3 wrote bot inline-keyboard button text into HTML chat exports without escaping, allowing a bot to plant invisible JavaScript. When a user opened the export in a browser, the script could exfiltrate every message in that 1,000-message file, rewrite the displayed content, or fake a verification form. The flaw (rated CVSS 3.1 8.2) was fixed by commit 8457d13a in 6.9.4 beta (July 3, 2026) and 7.0.1 stable (July 14, 2026), but pre-fix exports remain dangerous since updating the app does not fix old files. No CVE identifier or Telegram security advisory exists, and no exploitation in the wild is claimed.

Researchers demonstrated a zero-click WeChat worm that hijacked accounts via incoming calls; Tencent blocked the exploit server-side after July disclosure, no real attacks reported.

Security firm Calif built a worm that seized WeChat accounts via incoming calls without any target interaction, demonstrating it spreading across three test phones (Android to iPhone to Android). Once exploited, the attacker gains full control of the WeChat account, including messages, calls, payments, and mini programs, though not the phone itself. Tencent mitigated the flaw server-side, confirmed blocked on 28 August, shipping WeChat 8.0.77 for Android and 8.0.76 for iOS on 21 August. No CVE has been assigned, Tencent published no advisory, and no attacks in the wild have been reported; WeChat/Weixin counts 1.439 billion monthly active users.

Microsoft Exchange Vulnerability CVE-2026-62911: What Administrators Should Do and How Zscaler Can Help

High-severity authentication bypass CVE-2026-62911 in Exchange Server has public exploit code; about 22,000 servers remain unpatched and internet-exposed.

Microsoft's August 2026 Patch Tuesday fixed CVE-2026-62911 (CVSS 8.0), an authentication bypass affecting Exchange Server 2016, 2019 and Subscription Edition. Successful exploitation lets an attacker with basic privileges take over all mailboxes on the targeted server, including reading and sending email and downloading attachments. As of September 1, Shadowserver identified roughly 22,000 unpatched, internet-exposed Exchange servers, including about 6,200 in the US and 5,100 in Germany. NCSC-NL confirmed working exploit code is publicly available, while CISA has not yet reported exploitation in the wild.

GitLab Patches Critical Unauthenticated GraphQL Vulnerability

GitLab issued an emergency patch for a critical unauthenticated GraphQL flaw (CVE-2026-19478, CVSS 9.4) enabling remote modification or deletion of public projects.

GitLab patched CVE-2026-19478 (CVSS 9.4), an unauthenticated GraphQL directive flaw allowing remote modification or deletion of public projects and user data on self-managed servers. The emergency patch released August 17 covers versions 19.2.4, 19.1.6, 19.0.8, and 18.11.11, but no fixes exist for the 18.2-18.10 branches. A second issue, a CSRF weakness in GraphQL multiplex queries (CVE-2026-19650, CVSS 7.1), shipped in the same release. No exploitation or public PoC has been observed; the flaw was reported by hiimguardian through HackerOne.

Zero Day Initiative — CVE-2026-33824: Remote Code Execution in Windows ...

ZDI details CVE-2026-33824, a double-free in Windows IKEv2 fragment reassembly enabling unauthenticated remote code execution as SYSTEM on Windows.

Zero Day Initiative published technical analysis of CVE-2026-33824, a double-free in the Windows IKE Extension (ikeext.dll) caused by improper ownership handling of a heap blob pointer during IKEv2 fragment reassembly in IkeReinjectReassembledPacket(). A remote unauthenticated attacker can send a crafted IKE_SA_INIT message with a Security Realm Vendor ID followed by fragmented IKE_AUTH payloads to trigger the double free. Successful exploitation could yield arbitrary code execution under the IKEEXT service context (SYSTEM). ZDI also provided IDS detection guidance correlating the two-packet sequence on UDP ports 500 and 4500.

Dutch NCSC Warns: Critical Check Point VPN Flaws Put Networks at Risk

Dutch NCSC warns two CVSS 9.8 Check Point VPN flaws enable unauthenticated RCE; patch and restrict access before exploitation begins.

The Dutch NCSC warns that CVE-2026-85102, a security-check bypass in the VPN negotiation process, and CVE-2026-85103, a heap overflow in the certificate ASN.1 decoder, both carry a CVSS score of 9.8 and allow unauthenticated remote code execution on Check Point Security Gateways and Security Management Servers. Check Point fixed the flaws on September 9 via advisories sk1000117 and sk1000118, covering R81.20, R82, R82.10, R81.10.x, R82.00.x plus end-of-support versions R80 through R81.10; R82.20 is unaffected. No public proof-of-concept exists, but the NCSC rates exploitation likelihood as high and recommends patching immediately via LivePatch Take 24 or Jumbo Hotfix and restricting VPN access to trusted IPs.

Critical Cisco Nexus 9000 Flaw Lets Unauthenticated Remote Attackers Run Code as Root

Cisco patches critical CVE-2026-20212 (CVSS 9.8) in Nexus 9000 switches allowing unauthenticated remote root code execution, plus IOS XR hardening release.

Cisco released fixes for CVE-2026-20212 (CVSS 9.8), a flaw in 10 Silicon One-based Nexus 9000 switch models that binds a service to an unrestricted IP, leaving TCP ports 43210/43211 reachable in the default Layer 3 VRF and allowing unauthenticated remote attackers to execute code as root; exploitation attempts can also crash the S1HAL process. 45 NX-OS releases (10.3(1) through 10.6(3s)) are affected, with mitigations including infrastructure ACLs, the Live Protect shield lp00031, and fixed releases identified via Cisco's Software Checker. Cisco simultaneously issued an IOS XR hardening release bundling 7 umbrella CVEs, two rated 9.8 (CVE-2026-20274 for memory-safety bugs and CVE-2026-20279 for access-control bugs), affecting all releases with SMUs available for 14 releases and upgrades required for 93 of 111 listed releases. No malicious exploitation was reported as of the September 2 disclosure.
