MicroHasTEE: Bare-Metal Haskell for Type-Level Peripheral Ownership on Armv8-M

MicroHasTEE expresses TrustZone secure and non-secure firmware as one typed Haskell program, catching peripheral-ownership inconsistencies at compile time.

MicroHasTEE is a multiparty Haskell framework that models both TrustZone firmware images as participants in a single typed program, using type-level capability ledgers to track peripheral acquisition, configuration, transfer, and finalization. MicroHs compiles the shared program twice to produce separate bare-metal Secure and Non-secure firmware images. The framework rejects inconsistent resource use, post-configuration attribution changes, wrong-domain callbacks, and calls to unregistered Secure services. A door-lock case study on an STM32U5 Nucleo board produced images of 232.7 KiB and 228.4 KiB of flash with roughly 220 KiB of SRAM per domain.

Android Car Malware Spreads Through Built

Muhstik Botnet Attacks Tomato Routers to Harvest New IoT Devices

Unit 42 found a Muhstik botnet variant brute-forcing Tomato router web authentication to harvest IoT devices for crypto mining and DDoS attacks.

Palo Alto Networks Unit 42 researchers in December 2019 identified a new Muhstik botnet variant scanning Tomato routers on TCP 8080 and brute-forcing default admin credentials, targeting roughly 4,600 exposed devices found via Shodan. The variant also scans WordPress and Webuzo installations and exploits the Oracle WebLogic deserialization flaw CVE-2019-2725 for unauthenticated remote code execution. Muhstik, active since March 2018, self-propagates like a worm and typically monetizes infections through cryptocurrency mining and DDoS attacks controlled via an IRC C2 channel.

CERT/CC's VU#718077, reported by Eclypsium researcher Stas Lyakhov, describes how a UEFI Shell embedded in SPI flash can be abused by attackers who can modify UEFI boot configuration, creating multiple boot entries that bypass controls preventing the Shell from launching under Secure Boot. The Shell's dmem and mm commands allow arbitrary physical memory read/write, letting attackers overwrite Secure Boot values and execute unauthorized pre-boot code that can persist across reboots and OS reinstalls while degrading EDR effectiveness. AMI confirmed its Aptio UEFI BDS module is affected (CVE-2026-33197), and Cisco published an advisory for a variation affecting UCS Servers and UCS-based appliances (CVE-2026-20293). Firmware patches are being rolled out through OEM and IBV BIOS build pipelines.

LG TV flaws could let attackers listen in, even in standby mode

VU#687587: AOMEI Backupper amwrtdrv.sys local privilege escalation vulnerability allows arbitrary writes to physical disks

AOMEI Backupper 8.4.0 driver flaw CVE-2026-12780 lets unprivileged users write physical disks and execute UEFI code, bypassing HVCI and EDR.

CERT/CC issued VU#687587 for CVE-2026-12780, an incorrect permission assignment (CWE-732) in the amwrtdrv.sys kernel driver shipped with AOMEI Backupper 8.4.0. The driver exposes a world-accessible device object without a security descriptor, allowing any unprivileged user to write arbitrary physical disk sectors; with Secure Boot disabled, an attacker can modify the GPT and inject a UEFI payload that executes before the OS loads, bypassing HVCI, EDR, Windows Defender and Hyper-V isolation. On TPM-only BitLocker configurations the attack can capture Volume Master Key material during pre-boot. AOMEI has shipped patches; users who cannot update should uninstall the software or disable the amwrtdrv.sys service, and enabling Secure Boot adds defense in depth.

Forgery of C2PA on a Pixel 10

Researcher forged a Google Pixel 10 C2PA content credential with genuine signatures, showing root-level attackers can fake photo provenance.

A Hacker Factor blog post demonstrates an AI-generated 'unicorn glitter milk' news photo carrying a valid, cryptographically signed C2PA manifest traceable to Google's Pixel camera certificate chain, passing validation in Adobe Inspect and the CAI Verify tool with a verified timestamp. The author, working with UMBC's PASAWG working group, reported to Google and C2PA in November 2025 that root access on a Pixel device could sign arbitrary images as camera captures; after 90 days without resolution, details were published. The finding undermines C2PA Assurance Level 2 claims made for Pixel 10 Content Credentials.

Two Unitree G1 EDU Humanoid Robot Flaws Enable Root RCE, One Starts Over Bluetooth

Researcher disclosed two root RCE chains in Unitree G1 EDU robots (CVE-2026-76639, CVE-2026-76640), one reachable via unpaired Bluetooth, with no confirmed fixed firmware.

Security researcher Olivier Laflamme disclosed two independent root remote code execution chains in the Unitree G1 EDU robot: CVE-2026-76639, a network-adjacent path through chat_go and bashrunner, and CVE-2026-76640, a Bluetooth Low Energy path that ends with a 1,050-byte buffer overflow in btgatt-server giving root on the Locomotion PC. The BLE chain also exploits a cloud authorization gap that let any valid Unitree account recover another robot's AES key, then forces the robot onto an attacker hotspot via wpa_connect.sh heredoc injection. Unitree patched the cloud ownership check in July 2026, but no confirmed fixed firmware release addresses the BLE issues; the PoC was limited to two robots in one room and no in-the-wild exploitation is reported.

$536 and 8 Hours: AI Learns to Attack a Different PLC

Forescout used Claude to port a WAGO PLC exploit for $536 in 8 hours, and an AI-generated payload later permanently bricked the test device.

Forescout researchers used Claude Code with Ghidra, terminal access, and physical hardware to port CVE-2021-31886, a pre-authentication buffer overflow in the Nucleus FTP server, from a WAGO 750-852 PLC to the WAGO 750-831 without source code or debugger access. The final RCE development stage cost $535.74 in API fees over an 8-hour, 32-minute session (2.6k input and 1.3M output tokens) and required heavy researcher guidance. Claude produced working ICMP and UDP beacon exploits in 12 minutes after identifying that normal FTP command completion was overwriting its shellcode, fixed by omitting the CRLF terminator. A follow-up session extending the payloads toward a C2 implant wrote to flash-mapped memory and permanently bricked the PLC, underscoring the risks of autonomous agents operating against physical infrastructure.

Critical Cisco Secure Email Gateway zero-day gives attackers root access

Researcher chained two Unitree G1 flaws (CVE-2026-76639, CVE-2026-76640) to gain unauthenticated root access, with compromised robots able to infect others via Bluetooth.

Security researcher Olivier Laflamme chained a path-traversal file-write flaw (CVE-2026-76639) in the G1 chatbot service and a Bluetooth server buffer overflow (CVE-2026-76640) to achieve unauthenticated root access remotely. The chain abuses Unitree's cloud API as a decryption oracle for the AES-128 key that unlocks BLE and WebRTC channels, and a compromised robot can propagate the attack to nearby G1 units. Slovakia's NBÚ warns that speed camera systems from SODASUS, Simicon and NEROline pose cyber risks including undocumented remote access.

Slovakia's National Security Authority (NBÚ) warned of a significant cyber threat tied to several road speed camera products: NERO R-ONE units sold by Cyprus-based SODASUS, and Cordon-series cameras made by Russia's Simicon and sold by Croatia's NEROline. A security analysis requested by the Interior Ministry found weak protections, mismatches between documented and actual communication settings and software versions, unclear hardware/software provenance, and pre-configured remote-access mechanisms outside operator control. NBÚ warned that compromised cameras could expose vehicle and licence-plate data, tamper with records, or serve as a foothold into public-sector networks lacking segmentation. The Interior Ministry reportedly removed the units from its pilot deployment and asked the supplier to replace them with equipment meeting Slovak and EU security requirements.

Fake Apple Support AI Calls Target Stolen-Device Owners for Passcodes and 2FA Codes

SOCRadar details AnonyMousKIT, a phishing-as-a-service platform using AI voice agents posing as Apple Support to steal passcodes and 2FA codes.

SOCRadar's Threat Research Unit documented AnonyMousKIT, a credit-metered phishing-as-a-service platform that strips Activation Lock from stolen Apple devices across email, SMS, WhatsApp, recorded calls and AI voice agents. The 'Alice from Apple Support' personas request the device passcode, Apple ID credentials and a live 2FA code, with lures citing the handset's model identifier and live Find My status. Of 200 recovered AI calls made between August 31, 2025 and May 30, 2026, 179 targeted Brazil, and the calls cost $19.24 total via voice platform Vapi. Exposed log paths revealed 30 kit installations on 42 domains and 6,092 send attempts family-wide between March and July 2026.

TP-Link Cameras 0-Day Vulnerabilities Allow Attackers to Spy on Users

Two zero-day flaws in TP-Link Tapo C200 cameras allowed authentication bypass and denial-of-service; fixed in firmware V5_1.4.6.

OPSWAT researchers Khoi Tran and Thai Do found CVE-2026-15315, an authentication bypass in the Tapo C200's local HTTPS interface that lets network-adjacent attackers replay an authentication value to gain administrator access, and CVE-2026-15316, an unauthenticated denial-of-service in the Wi-Fi onboarding process that crashes the camera's HTTPS service. TP-Link was notified on April 16, 2026, confirmed the flaws on July 10, and released patches on August 18, 2026 in firmware V5_1.4.6. Exploitation requires local network access but no valid account, existing session, or user interaction, exposing live feeds and stored recordings to surveillance risk.

New KATARU IoT Malware Packs Linux Privilege Escalation Exploits and Mirai-Style DDoS Attacks

Nozomi Networks identified KATARU, a new Mirai-style IoT botnet delivered via Telnet brute force that uses Linux privilege-escalation exploits and encrypted C2 for DDoS floods.

Nozomi Networks identified KATARU in August after a Telnet password-guessing attack against a honeypot retrieved an ARM payload. The malware attempts exploits for CVE-2026-46300 (Fragnesia), CVE-2026-43284 (DirtyFrag), and CVE-2026-31431 (Copy Fail), plus a cgroup v1 release_agent escape, and persists via systemd services, cron tasks, rc scripts, OpenWrt hooks, and Android boot locations. Its C2 uses X25519 key exchange with ChaCha20-Poly1305 encryption and supports TCP, UDP, ICMP, HTTP, QUIC, and DNS floods, plus SSH brute forcing and command execution; embedded exploit shellcode in the ARM build targeted x86, suggesting untested copied code.

Cisco UCS and UCS-Based Appliances UEFI Shell Secure Boot Bypass Vulnerability

Cisco disclosed a UEFI Secure Boot bypass in UCS servers and UCS-based appliances letting authenticated or physically present attackers execute unauthorized software.

Cisco published an advisory for a vulnerability in the UEFI Shell implementation of UCS servers and UCS-based appliances. Memory write commands remain available in the UEFI Shell while Secure Boot is enabled, allowing an attacker to modify UEFI memory and bypass validation checks to run unauthorized software. Exploitation requires either valid credentials for a user or admin account, or unauthenticated physical access to select the UEFI Shell boot option at boot time. The issue affects firmware boot integrity rather than the running operating system.

Citrix urges customers to fix critical NetScaler authentication bypass (CVE-2026-19490)

Citrix patched a critical authentication bypass, CVE-2026-19490, in NetScaler Gateway and NetScaler ADC, urging customers to upgrade immediately.

Citrix has patched two flaws in NetScaler ADC and NetScaler Gateway. CVE-2026-19490 is a critical authentication bypass (CVSS v4.0 9.3) that works when the appliance is configured as an SSL VPN, ICA Proxy, CVPN, RDP Proxy Gateway or AAA virtual server, with additional conditions depending on firmware and SAML configuration. A second flaw, CVE-2026-19489 (CVSS 8.8), is a memory overflow that can cause denial of service when SIP ALG is enabled on LSN setups. Rapid7 had not observed exploitation as of August 19, 2026, but urged emergency patching; a signature-based mitigation is available via NetScaler Console.

Physical-access flaws allow arbitrary code execution from scripts on removable media (CVE-2026-81305) and unauthenticated bootloader access (CVE-2026-85478). The cameras are deployed worldwide in commercial facilities.

Hackers Compromised 14,500+ Dahua Devices Using Credential Attacks, Auth Bypasses, and P2P

Hunt.io disclosed Operation CameraSwarm, compromising 14,500+ Dahua cameras via credential attacks, auth bypass CVEs, and P2P relay techniques across Ukraine and Russia.

Hunt.io reconstructed a campaign codenamed Operation CameraSwarm that compromised over 14,530 Dahua devices between June 17 and July 22, 2026. Attack paths included credential attacks against 12,324 IPs, exploitation of CVE-2021-33044 and CVE-2021-33045 affecting 1,923 cameras, and P2P relay access to 283 devices behind NAT. The operator, assessed as Russian-speaking, left behind 2,616 files including tooling and campaign logs, with confirmed compromises concentrated in Ukraine and Russia. Dahua advises factory resets and firmware updates; both 2021 CVEs remain in CISA's KEV catalog.

New DDRop Attack Breaks Intel TDX and AMD SEV-SNP With $159 DDR5 Device

DDRop uses a $159 DDR5 RDIMM interposer to silently drop memory writes and break Intel TDX and AMD SEV-SNP confidential VMs.

Researchers published DDRop, a physical attack built from about $159 in parts that uses a custom DDR5 RDIMM interposer to inject parity errors and silently discard selected cache-line writebacks. Intel TDX, Intel Scalable SGX, and AMD SEV-SNP are affected because they lack per-line cryptographic freshness, so processors can accept stale encrypted data as valid state. The team demonstrated deterministic plaintext copying between pages, malicious Secure EPT entry injection, forcing trust domains into debug mode, and forging attestation measurements. The attack requires privileged host control plus brief physical access, and researchers say no simple software patch exists.
