A related installer component infects /usr/sbin/httpd, persists across BIG-IP upgrade images, modifies SELinux configuration, and deploys the payload. The malware also creates a Unix domain socket at /run/bigtlog.pipe that hands authenticated local connections to /bin/bash; F5 links the activity to CVE-2025-53521, an unauthenticated RCE in BIG-IP APM already exploited in the wild.

CDN Tsunami Attack Abuses HTTP/3 Translation for Up to 350x DoS Amplification

Researchers disclosed two DoS attacks exploiting CDNs' HTTP/3-to-HTTP/1.1 translation to amplify low-bandwidth requests up to 350x against origin servers.

Researchers named the two techniques HTTP/3 Bandwidth Amplification (HBA) and HTTP/3 Connection Amplification (HCA), exploiting the gap where CDNs speak HTTP/3 to browsers but only HTTP/1.1 to origins. All six tested CDNs (Alibaba, Baidu, Cloudflare, CloudFront, Fastly, Tencent) were susceptible to HBA, and five to HCA, with Cloudflare immune to HCA because it buffers full requests before opening backend connections. Attackers using under 5 Mbps forced over 100 Mbps at origins, and the 350x factor applies only to Alibaba, Baidu, and Tencent, which support the QPACK dynamic table. Testing identified 42,330 potentially vulnerable subdomains out of 151,685 hosted on the six providers across the Tranco Top 1M.

Hackers breach F5 BIG-IP APM devices to deploy Linux rootkit

Sophos analyzed a Linux rootkit on F5 BIG-IP APM devices that injects a fileless PHP web shell, likely after CVE-2025-53521 exploitation.

Sophos analyzed a Linux rootkit targeting F5 BIG-IP APM environments, also tracked by ESET as PoisonedRefresh, which hijacks Apache's apr_dso_load module loader to inject a fileless PHP web shell into memory. The implant intercepts __libc_start_main, hides strings with RC4, creates a password-protected local UNIX socket backdoor for interactive Bash access, and persists across BIG-IP upgrade images while modifying SELinux configuration. It is likely a second-stage payload following exploitation of CVE-2025-53521, a critical RCE flaw F5 reclassified from a DoS issue in March. The ShadowServer Foundation tracked 795 F5 BIG-IP APM endpoints exposed online.

Russia ordered data center operators to deploy drone strike defenses under a Putin decree allowing temporary state takeover of unprotected critical infrastructure.

The Russian government instructed data center operators to deploy protections against drone strikes under a presidential decree signed by Putin that allows temporary state administration of critical infrastructure operators failing to defend against Ukrainian hacks and drone strikes. Although data centers are not formally critical infrastructure in Russia, the decree applies to them because other sectors depend heavily on cloud services; Russia has more than 180 data centers, over 80% in the European region within range of Ukrainian strikes. The digest also reports a Dropbox breach affecting nearly 5,000 accounts via the Lenovo ID integration, spyware attacks on at least 14 Serbians using NoviSpy or Pegasus, and a password recovery attack targeting hundreds of thousands of X accounts tied to the new X Money service. CVE-2026-82438 (severity: important) affects Apache Storm Webapp (storm-webapp) versions 3.0.0 before 3.1.0. Three separate mechanisms allowed a web page on an unrelated origin to read responses served to authenticated users, including the Logviewer reflecting the request's Origin header in Access-Control-Allow-Origin while also sending Access-Control-Allow-Credentials. This enables a malicious site to silently exfiltrate authenticated Storm API and log data from a victim's browser session.
