China-Made ZBT Routers Ship With Two Implants Giving Unauthenticated Attackers Root Access

VulnCheck discloses two factory implants, SPEAKINGSTONE and DARKLANTERN, in ZBT router firmware granting unauthenticated remote attackers root command execution.

VulnCheck found two previously undocumented implants in firmware from Shenzhen Zhibotong Electronics (ZBT), tracked as CVE-2026-74232 (SPEAKINGSTONE) and CVE-2026-74233 (DARKLANTERN), each rated 9.8 on CVSS 3.1. SPEAKINGSTONE (yunmgrd) beacons to a hardcoded C2 over UDP port 10000 and supports root command execution, PPPoE credential exfiltration, DNS hijacking, and reverse SSH tunnels; DARKLANTERN (infosrvd) listens on UDP port 9992 with weak hardcoded authentication. Scanning found 203 internet-facing DARKLANTERN instances across 22 countries, and 392 devices reported to the SPEAKINGSTONE backup C2, nearly all in China on China Mobile. No fixed firmware release is named, and ZBT's white-labeling means model number rather than brand is the reliable detection check.

Multiple Vulnerabilities Discovered in a SCADA System

Unit 42 details five vulnerabilities (CVSS 7.0-7.8) in ICONICS Suite SCADA software enabling privilege escalation and DoS.

Unit 42 discovered five vulnerabilities (CVE-2024-1182, CVE-2024-7587, CVE-2024-8299, CVE-2024-8300, CVE-2024-9852) in ICONICS Suite versions 10.97.2 and earlier for Windows during a 2024 security assessment. The flaws, rated CVSS 7.0-7.8, allow DLL hijacking, privilege escalation, information disclosure, denial-of-service and potentially full system compromise. ICONICS Suite is a SCADA solution with hundreds of thousands of installations in over 100 countries, widely used in critical infrastructure, and several dozen servers are internet-exposed per Unit 42 telemetry. ICONICS released patches and advisories with workarounds in 2024.

The analysis demonstrates a chain with CVE-2024-7587, which grants excessive permissions to the C:\ProgramData\ICONICS directory via the GenBroker32 installer. Iconics released an advisory with a workaround that addresses the reported issues.

Nearly 1 in 10 Exposed LiteLLM Gateways Accepted the Example "sk-1234" Admin Key

Wiz found 294 of 3,074 internet-facing LiteLLM gateways accepted the documented default admin key sk-1234, exposing provider API keys and cloud IAM credentials.

Wiz Research's February Shodan scan found 3,074 LiteLLM gateways, 294 of which accepted the setup guide's sk-1234 admin key; 191 had no master key set and would accept any credential. The master key doubles as the authentication switch, and before 1.82.0-stable a gateway started without one granted every request full admin rights, exposing stored provider API keys, prompts, and MCP-connected tools. A documented pass-through endpoint lacks checks against private and cloud metadata addresses, letting an admin-key holder retrieve cloud IAM credentials, though no real-world abuse is reported. Related LiteLLM flaws include CVE-2026-59821 (disputed guardrail code execution), CVE-2026-59822 (CVSS 8.8, added to CISA KEV on September 2 and observed against Wiz honeypots), and CVE-2026-42271, used to install a cryptominer.

An attacker with HTTP(S) access can bypass authentication checks via the TeamCity agent polling protocol and execute arbitrary operating system commands with the privileges of the server process. Fixes are available in versions 2025.11.7 and 2026.1.3, plus a security patch plugin for TeamCity 2017.1+. JetBrains states there is no evidence of active exploitation at disclosure time, and TeamCity Cloud is already mitigated.

Critical unauthenticated RCEs (CVSS 9.8) were also fixed in Skype for Business Server (CVE-2026-66302), Windows Message Queuing (CVE-2026-69579), and Windows RRAS (CVE-2026-69590). SANS urges prioritizing the two exploited EoP fixes, then patching exposed MSMQ, RRAS, and Skype for Business deployments.

PostgreSQL Fixes 12-Year-Old Logical Decoding Flaw Enabling Replication-Role Code Execution

The fix adds an output_plugin_libraries whitelist, so administrators using non-default plugins such as wal2json and decoderbufs must add them and reload configuration after updating. Cyera Research, whose write-up names the flaw PostGREShell, demonstrated escalating a replication user to superuser with persistence; no PoC or KEV entry existed as of September 4.

Hack One Robot, Reach the Next: Unitree G1 Security Flaws

Researcher chained two Unitree G1 flaws (CVE-2026-76639, CVE-2026-76640) to gain unauthenticated root access, with compromised robots able to infect others via Bluetooth.

Security researcher Olivier Laflamme chained a path-traversal file-write flaw (CVE-2026-76639) in the G1 chatbot service and a Bluetooth server buffer overflow (CVE-2026-76640) to achieve unauthenticated root access remotely. The chain abuses Unitree's cloud API as a decryption oracle for the AES-128 key that unlocks BLE and WebRTC channels, and a compromised robot can propagate the attack to nearby G1 units. Unitree patched the cloud ownership-check flaw, paid a $5,000 bounty, and firmware fixes for BLE pairing and the buffer overflow remain harder to deliver.

Marimo fixed it in version 0.23.15 (released July 23, 2026) via a PEP 723 hardening patch that treats notebook metadata as attacker-controlled and strips ai, mcp, completion, secrets, and server configuration sections. VulnCheck's CNA also disclosed CVE-2026-67618 (CVSS 7.1), involving an attacker-controlled AI base_url that exfiltrates operator API keys, and earlier CVE-2023-39987, a missing auth on /terminal/ws endpoint allowing full PTY shell access.

2026-010: Critical Vulnerabilities in Citrix NetScaler ADC and NetScaler Gateway

Citrix patched NetScaler ADC/Gateway: auth bypass CVE-2026-19490 (CVSS 9.3) on Gateway/AAA configs and memory overflow CVE-2026-19489 (CVSS 8.8) requiring SIP ALG.

On 19 August 2026 Citrix published an advisory fixing two critical-severity issues in NetScaler ADC and NetScaler Gateway versions 14.1 before 14.1-73.32 and 13.1 before 13.1-63.21, plus FIPS/NDcPP builds. CVE-2026-19490 (CVSS 9.3) is an authentication bypass via alternate path, exploitable when the appliance is configured as a Gateway (SSL VPN, ICA Proxy, CVPN, RDP Proxy) or AAA virtual server, with a SAML action condition on newer builds. CVE-2026-19489 (CVSS 8.8) is a memory overflow causing unpredictable behaviour or denial of service, requiring SIP ALG enabled on a Large Scale NAT group. CERT-EU recommends applying updated builds as soon as possible.

3 Vulnerabilities Found on AvertX IP Cameras

Unit 42 disclosed three vulnerabilities (CVE-2020-11623/4/5) in AvertX HD838 and 438IR IP cameras; AvertX has released patches.

Palo Alto Networks Unit 42 researchers found three vulnerabilities in AvertX HD838 and 438IR outdoor surveillance cameras, which are rebranded Hikvision products: CVE-2020-11625 (user enumeration), CVE-2020-11624 (weak password requirements), and CVE-2020-11623 (exposed dangerous method/function). User enumeration responses facilitate brute-force attacks, the default admin credentials (admin/1234) are never enforced to change, and physical access to an exposed UART interface allows bootloader access and configuration modification. AvertX released a patch, removed the UART connector, and disabled the interface in the latest production batch.
