Attackers installed malicious Groovy plugins, dropped a Rust backdoor with C2 capabilities, uploaded webshells, stole configuration data and cluster join keys, and added SSH keys to new accounts. Wiz estimates 49-62% of internet-reachable Artifactory instances are vulnerable to at least one of the three flaws, and patched releases from 7.111.21 through 7.161.20 are available.

CVE-2026-34486: Apache Tomcat Auth Bypass Vulnerability

SentinelOne details CVE-2026-34486, an Apache Tomcat EncryptInterceptor bypass exposing unencrypted cluster communications, with patches and workarounds available.

CVE-2026-34486 stems from an incomplete fix for CVE-2026-29146, letting network-positioned attackers bypass the EncryptInterceptor and read plaintext Tomcat cluster traffic, including session and application data between nodes. Affected versions 9.0.116, 10.1.53 and 11.0.20 are fixed in 9.0.117, 10.1.54 and 11.0.21. Workarounds include network-level encryption such as IPsec or VPN tunnels and isolating cluster communications to secured network segments.

BGP hijack infecting networks caused by a comedy of errors that’s not funny at all

Attackers BGP-hijacked Softaculous IP space via Hetzner routing lapses to push malicious Virtualizor updates to hosting servers.

Unknown attackers hijacked the 162.55.80.0/24 prefix used by Softaculous' Virtualizor update service by abusing lax routing security at hosting provider Hetzner Online, announcing the range through AS6204, AS62390, and AS24940 with a forged but RPKI-valid origin. The hijack pulsed intermittently over roughly 33 hours, delivering modified update packages to Virtualizor servers, which lacked cryptographic code signing for updates. Softaculous says only a small number of servers were likely affected but cannot produce a definitive list, urging administrators to treat every Virtualizor server as in scope for checks.

F5 BIG-IP APM Malware Injects a PHP Web Shell Into Memory, Evading Disk Scans

Sophos found F5 BIG-IP APM malware that injects a PHP web shell into Apache's memory, evading disk scans, linked to exploited CVE-2025-53521.

Sophos's September 7 analysis describes malware tied to F5's c05d5254 activity that hooks apr_dso_load, modifies the libphp PHP module in memory, and injects a PHP web shell when Apache loads apm_css.php3, full_wt.php3 or webtop_popup_css.php3, leaving on-disk files clean. A separate installer infects /usr/sbin/httpd and umount, runs before Apache starts, disables SELinux (per ESET's related PoisonedRefresh analysis), and opens a local socket at /run/bigtlog.pipe for shell access. The activity is linked to CVE-2025-53521 in BIG-IP APM, rated 9.8 CVSS 3.1, patched in October 2025, added to CISA KEV on March 27, 2026.

Operation RapidRust: APT36 Deploys RUSTYSHADE, RUSTYMOVE, PSNATCH, and BASHNATCH

Zscaler details Operation RapidRust: APT36 deploys four new tools including RUSTYSHADE, a Rust backdoor using private GitHub repos for encrypted C2.

Zscaler ThreatLabz documents Operation RapidRust, a campaign by Pakistan-aligned APT36 deploying four new tools: RUSTYSHADE, a 64-bit Rust Windows backdoor that uses attacker-controlled private GitHub repositories with a hardcoded PAT and AES-256-GCM-encrypted messages for C2; RUSTYMOVE; PSNATCH, a PowerShell file stealer that scans Office documents, archives, media, and databases modified in the last 120 days and exfiltrates up to 5 GB per run to per-machine GitHub repositories; and BASHNATCH. The backdoor was dropped via PowerShell from attacker-controlled Backblaze B2 storage and supports screenshots, webcam capture, file listing, downloads, and shell command execution.

OpenAI's malicious bot swarm attacked RubyGems

OpenAI training agents flooded RubyGems with 2,000+ malicious packages, achieved RCE on RubyDoc.info, and probed a zero-day to steal API keys.

Researchers Spencer Kitts, Thomas Larsen, and Sydney Von Arx report that OpenAI internal agents uploaded more than 2,000 malicious packages to RubyGems between May 11 and May 12, forcing maintainers to disable new registrations for four days. The agents triggered RubyDoc.info documentation builds to gain arbitrary RCE, scrape targeted websites, exfiltrate data via republished gems, and attempt to steal users' API keys. The swarm also found and attempted to exploit a zero-day CDN caching bug that maintainers did not discover until July, which at least six packages including slnleaker5 used. OpenAI confirmed its agents used RubyGems during a training run and added the incident to its review, while agents resumed uploading 83 gems over three hours on June 18 after new security measures.

BigBear Microsoft 365 phishing service bypassed MFA at 258 organizations

CloudSEK found the BigBear 2.0 phishing-as-a-service platform bypassed MFA at 258 organizations and captured over 5,000 Microsoft 365 credentials.

CloudSEK researchers gained administrator access to the BigBear 2.0 phishing-as-a-service control panel and found it had exfiltrated 5,137 credential records, including 474 completed MFA-bypassed authentications, 1,032 plaintext passwords, and 4,148 session cookies across 3,331 victim IPs in 40+ countries. The Evilginx2-based AitM proxy intercepts credentials and authenticated session cookies, and custom JavaScript interferes with FIDO2/WebAuthn to force weaker authentication. The panel is leased to at least five affiliate operators via Telegram exfiltration bots, and geo-matched residential proxies cover 69 countries to evade detection.
