CVE-2022-22965: Spring Core Remote Code Execution Vulnerability Exploited In the Wild (SpringShell) (Updated)

Attackers actively exploit Spring Framework RCE CVE-2022-22965 (SpringShell, CVSS 9.8) to deploy webshells; patches 5.3.18/5.2.20 shipped March 31, 2022.

CVE-2022-22965 enables unauthenticated remote code execution in the widely used Spring Framework (CVSS 9.8), which Unit 42 has observed being exploited in the wild. The flaw stems from getCachedIntrospectionResults exposing the class object during parameter binding, letting attackers manipulate the class loader to modify Tomcat logging and upload a JSP webshell. Public PoCs require JDK 9+, Tomcat, WAR packaging, and spring-webmvc or spring-webflux dependencies on Spring 5.3.0-5.3.17, 5.2.0-5.2.19, or older. Fixes shipped in Spring Framework 5.3.18 and 5.2.20; the related Spring Cloud Function flaw CVE-2022-22963 was patched March 29, 2022.

IoT Under Siege: The Anatomy of the Latest Mirai Campaign Leveraging Multiple IoT Exploits

Unit 42 tracks a Mirai botnet campaign exploiting over 20 IoT vulnerabilities in routers, cameras and DVRs to build DDoS botnets since March 2023.

Since March 2023, Unit 42 has tracked threat actors exploiting more than 20 IoT vulnerabilities to spread a Mirai botnet variant, first seen downloading payloads from zvub.us on March 14, 2023. Exploited flaws span CVE-2023-1389 (TP-Link Archer), CVE-2022-30525 (Zyxel), CVE-2022-31499 (Nortek) and many router, camera and DVR bugs. The variant decrypts configuration strings with an XOR key derived from 0xDEADBEEF and lacks built-in credential brute forcing, so spreading relies on manual operator exploitation. Two campaigns observed since October 2022 share infrastructure and near-identical samples.

The /api/v1/entries endpoint accepts attacker-controlled entry identifiers containing path traversal sequences, allowing PHP-containing content to be written outside the intended entries directory. A subsequent attacker-controlled path can then be included and executed as PHP. Ron E posted the disclosure to the Full Disclosure mailing list on September 3, 2026.

Zero Day Initiative — CVE-2026-33824: Remote Code Execution in Windows ...

ZDI details CVE-2026-33824, a double-free in Windows IKEv2 fragment reassembly enabling unauthenticated remote code execution as SYSTEM on Windows.

Zero Day Initiative published technical analysis of CVE-2026-33824, a double-free in the Windows IKE Extension (ikeext.dll) caused by improper ownership handling of a heap blob pointer during IKEv2 fragment reassembly in IkeReinjectReassembledPacket(). A remote unauthenticated attacker can send a crafted IKE_SA_INIT message with a Security Realm Vendor ID followed by fragmented IKE_AUTH payloads to trigger the double free. Successful exploitation could yield arbitrary code execution under the IKEEXT service context (SYSTEM). ZDI also provided IDS detection guidance correlating the two-packet sequence on UDP ports 500 and 4500.

cPanel EmailTrack SQL Injection Flaw Lets Attackers Execute Code as Root

cPanel disclosed CVE-2026-67401, an authenticated SQL injection in EmailTrack that lets attackers write files and execute code as root.

cPanel disclosed CVE-2026-67401 on September 8, 2026: a SQL injection in the EmailTrack feature that allows authenticated account holders with mail-related permissions to create arbitrary files and execute code with root privileges. Fixes shipped in v11.110.0.143, v11.134.0.55, v11.136.0.39, v11.138.0.4, and WP2 channel v11.138.1.9, with all supported versions before those releases affected. Root-level execution poses severe risk to shared hosting providers and multi-tenant servers, as it removes isolation between cPanel accounts, websites, mailboxes, and backups. Researchers Ali Mustafa (rz1027) and abed1526 responsibly reported the flaw.

Chinese Hackers Exploit Critical Tencent Software Flaw for One-Click Code Execution

China-linked UNC3569 actively exploited critical Sogou Input Method flaw CVE-2026-51990 for one-click system-level code execution, deploying the GrayRabbit backdoor.

Gen Threat Labs reports that China-linked threat actor UNC3569, possibly tied to contractor i-SOON, exploited critical CVE-2026-51990 in Tencent's Sogou Input Method, a Windows IME used by hundreds of millions, via crafted sgbiz URLs. The chain combines unvalidated command-line argument injection, unrestricted URL navigation, and an un-sandboxed Chromium 80 engine missing roughly six years of security patches. The exploit gives system-level code execution and was used to deploy the GrayRabbit backdoor, which provides a reverse shell, plugin loading, file upload to C2, and system info collection, and has appeared in UNC3569 intrusions since at least 2021. Tencent patched the issue in version 16.3.0.3498 via automatic update, but the outdated Chromium configuration reportedly remained unchanged as of September 10.
